The cliffs of Astera were one of the few spots where Kenzo had yet to venture into. For a couple of days now, the Advent World warrior had spent his days exploring the port. Getting fed with the fishing by now, the blue haired man decided to do something far different to what he had so far. Naturally, this meant going to the Astera Cliffs. He had heard a great deal of things from all kinds of persons. From young boys running through the streets as they raced to be the first to reach the top, to couples planning dates at the top and even a group of old men and women planning to go for a hike and get some exercise done. Apparently, they were quite the attraction, offering one of Astera’s best views. Naturally, Kenzo’s inquisitive nature meant that he’d have to go and check them out by himself.

Packing up the bare necessities, the male left his inn early in the morning. There were still a couple of hours before the sun came out, so he’d be able to see the morning sun at the top of the cliffs. A cool saline breeze brushed his face as he started ascending the trail marked by a wooden signal. The quiet of the city combined with the sounds of nature made for quite a relaxing climb. It had been a long time since the male had gone hiking by personal choice, mostly accustomed to forced marches and carrying heavy war equipment. The contrast of doing it with sporty clothes was something he was surprised to find himself enjoying. As he thought about such things, the days of being a mercenary seemed so far away. Kenzo was still a young man, but something inside made him feel like Fiore was his home.

As he made his way up the hiking trail, Kenzo suddenly got brought of his thoughts by a sound he’d never heard before. It was a weird purring noise similar to a mix between a cat and a goat. Sure, that comparison was really crazy on its own, but the more the young male thought about it, the more it made sense. It was not loud by any means, but it kept sounding with each step he took. Finally, curiosity took over Kenzo’s body and decided to go and explore what was going on. Since the sound came from the stone wall at his right, he decided to place his bag with food and water carefully next to it and climb for a second.

Ever since he had obtained Masamune, Kenzo had began working in increasing his physical strength. The two-handed blade was 2 meters long after all. Furthermore, something about its metals made it neigh impossible to him to swing with 1 hand. This would simply not do. Day after day, Kenzo made sure to rigorously train his body so that he could swing it one handed. The road ahead of him was a long one, but one he’d eventually see through. For the moment, it seemed that it was starting to show his results. Climbing up the rock wall proved to be no challenge for Kenzo, quickly lifting his whole body using just the grip’s strength and arms. Just as he was finally arriving to the place where the noises seemed to be coming from, they stopped. The young male was not sure what to expect, but the only thing that greeted him was a half-bitten fish with a dozen of scattered fish bones scattered around the ground. Judging from the size of the bite, the owner of that sound had to be a small animal. Sadly, it would seem that his venture to find it had managed to scare it off. Or did it?

As quick as the noise disappeared it appeared once again. Its place of origin? Kenzo’s previous location. Whatever this animal was, it was certainly nimble. Kenzo’s curiosity had grown too much to care about wasting time in a hide and seek with this animal. Failing to notice that the sun would sun come out, the male grabbed a piece of the half-eaten fish and prepared his plan to catch the evasive growler.

The purring and sharp noises made it obvious that it was now standing on the trail. Hiding as best as he could, Kenzo positioned himself in a way that would allow him to surprise the small animal in its track. Something became obvious as he walked closer to it from above. The little creature was rummaging around his bag to see what it could find. Kenzo had packed a couple of cookies along with a bottle of water. He didn’t care about the water in this instance, but his cookies? Oh gods, it better not have touched his cookies.

Jumping from the top of the rock wall, Kenzo landed with both feet right next to the animal. Finding itself between his legs and the bag, the animal reacted with a loud screeching scared sound. Kenzo had not only caught it by surprise, but also hot handed. The little thief was a small white and black lemur-looking like animal. Different to most lemurs he had seen, this one had a pair of wings hanging from each of his arms, just like those of a bat. Furthermore, a pair of large green eyes looked suspiciously at Kenzo at its two large pointy ears twitched from side to side. Caught in the act, the winged lemur froze in place with a cookie halfway into his mouth. The small fella’s hope was that if he didn’t move Kenzo would eventually leave him alone.

Alas, that was but the mindless thinking of an animal. ”Oi who do you think you’re stealing from?!” The winged lemur instantly put into motion plan B after his master plan completely failed. Grabbing as quickly as he could the rest of the cookies from Kenzo’s bag, he swallowed the one on his mouth and tried to take flight. However, Kenzo would not be bested so easily.

Just a hair’s breadth, the male managed to grab the Lemur by the tail, yanking him mid flight and making him let go of his haul. As he grumbled and hissed at the swordsman in retort, Kenzo answered in turn. ”Don’t give me that face! You’re not going anywhere with my food” After a short struggle, the lemur finally admitted defeat and stopped moving. Surprisingly, he even seemed to cross his arms in resignation as he stared at Kenzo with his set of large greenish-yellow eyes.

Kenzo simply chuckled and let go of the animal’s tail at last. ”All right, you’ve earned at least one” As he picked up his stuff, the male threw a cookie at the small animal. ”There ya go” Leaping from the ground, the little fella caught the treat mid air happily. The sun had now come out, so Kenzo had effectively missed the sunrise. However, he had managed to see something a tad bit more interesting that day. As he resumed his trail to the top, Kenzo placed both arms on the back of his head as he began whistling, leaving the lemur that still nommed at the cookie behind. However, his peace would not last long. Hearing the now familiar lemur’s purr, Kenzo’s balance was suddenly thrown off as the winged mammal landed on his shoulder. From the looks of it, the little fella held something on his hands.

Turning his face to look directly at it, the male was surprised as to what it was holding. Clutched by a pair of tiny hands, a silver colored egg was held in place. Kenzo instantly remembered the date as soon as he saw it. It was quite a tradition back when he was young. Easter Day was something most children in Bellum looked forward to. It was said that if you found one of the Easter Bunny’s golden or silver colored eggs that day you would have good luck. Kenzo had never seen one before, but he had no doubt this was definitely one of those.

With a smile on his face, the mercenary pat the winged lemur on the head as he took the egg from his hands.

”I’d say that’s quite a fair trade. Met the Easter Bunny around here huh?” The winged lemur appeared to be pleased at the praise as he cheerfully flew around the man, landing right next to him on the floor. Placing both hands on his head to mimic the mercenary, the lemur began walking right next to Kenzo. Seeing the strange display, Kenzo couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. ”You’re definitely quite an interesting little fella. If you’re tagging along I expect you to pull your weight too.” A smile was painted on the swordsman’s face as he talked to the animal. Surprisingly, it would seem that it understood whatever he had to say, given the apparent nod he made after hearing his words.

Even if Kenzo had lost the opportunity to see the famous Asteran sunrise that morning, it’d appear that he’d gotten more than what he’d expected. Making sure to place the silver egg carefully inside his bag, the merc made a mental note to open it as soon as he reached the top. Easter Eggs were always full of surprises. What would a silver egg hide inside? As the two new friends walked to the top, Kenzo turned to face the lemur with a proposal.

”How about I name you Kin?”
