Once again Kaz sat in the guild office going over paperwork when a familiar request came across his desk. It was another request from the locals about taking care of a problem with fish vanishing in the oceans. It was driving the economy and livelihood of the citizens down and needed to be addressed.

He sighed when he picked the request up and wondered just how many monsters they were going to have to deal with. The mage grabbed his jacket from the rack and his staff from the table. This was going to be the last time this happened so frequently. It was time to finally put a stop to all the madness.

It would also serve as a good distraction with everything else that had been going on. The heartbreaking situation with Noyiah still lingered with him. It would be hard to get passed the potential awkward encounters in the guildhall.

Then there was all the sudden changes that came about with Nuala. Things that riddled his mind with questions and bewilderment. Even with that confusion, it was something that was a bright spot among all the other things in his tangled life.

He swung the door open and headed out of the guildhall. Everyone else was already out on a mission of some sort, which somehow worked out better for him. He didn't have to worry about collateral damage and could unleash his full force. Something he felt was needed to put an end to all this.

The guild was silent as he strolled through the main lobby and then out the door. The only person there was the receptionist that gave a simple wave as the guild master left. He nodded back and was gone.

It was still the afternoon, with plenty of daylight to spare. While he walked, he wondered if the man he saw before was going to be there. He showed his face the last time and seemed to hold some control over the events that were taking place. It was also an eerie moment as the man seemed like a haunting memory.

He marched down the long steps that led away from the guildhall. Each step hit more resolute than the one before. "Agh," he grunted as a pain shot through his head. He shook it off and continued downward. A pain lashed in his head again and the wind mage stumbled to the side and braced himself on a tree. "What the hell is.."

"Has your time walking among them as your own finally ended," a voice thundered in his mind. He hunched over with his eyes wide open. His heart raced with anger. The hand pressed against the tree clenched into a fist. One born of anger and fear.

"You," Kaz spat with venom.

"You accepted the gift I gave you. You can find me...on the island," the voice spoke with glib arrogance. Kaz pushed himself off the tree and whistles into the sky. His Griffin swooped down. The beast had heard many types of whistles from his master before and this one excited him the most. The Griffin landed with a snort and shake of its feathers.

"Time to hunt," Kaz said with a cold voice and mounted the Griffon. The winged beast flew off. Kaz knew exactly where to go. he could feel the tug in his soul. Normally he would ask the locals what area the incident was happening in but he knew with every ounce of his existence that the fish scarcity and his nemesis were intertwined. When he returned he would let the people know about the problem and that it was resolved. There was no time to waste. The scar on his chest ached from the sheer memory of it all.

The city passed by in a blur beneath them. The coastline grew bigger and bigger with each second they sped to it. The city turned to ocean in a blurry image of grey stone to blue waves. The Island was not far now and neither was destiny.

Memories of that day surged to the forefront of his mind. His eyes stayed fixed on the destination ahead but his mind wrestled with that day from long ago. the further out they went the fewer and fewer fish there were in the sea, like some great void had consumed them all.

The island appeared in the distance. It was surrounded by jagged rocks and cliffs with thick forest on top and within its boundaries. A whirlpool swirled at the only cove that a ship could enter. A well-protected island for heinous acts to lurk. The wind mage steered the griffon toward it and they dove down closer.

The griffon flew to mere inches above the water. Its speed and wingbeats creating rips on the water surface that splashed at their sides. They closed the distance at that level, trying to keep out of sight from any who would be watching the skies, as that was the only real way in.

The cliff face was looming a few meters ahead of them. The griffon flew in at the same fierce speed. Its beak was about to collide with it as Kaz and the griffon veered upward and hugged a foot away from the cliff as they soared higher.

Kaz held onto the griffon at the back of its neck with one hand. The other was at his side, ready for whatever was waiting for them. He arched his back up, preparing himself to leap from his mighty winged companion. The two rushed over the peak of the cliff and Kaz flipped off the back of the griffon and peered into the forest.

As soon as his feet hit the ground, three tall bipedal creatures with mouths and gills rushed him. Kaz trusted his hand forward creating a terrible torrent of wind that swept the creatures up and battered them against the trees. The wind slashed at them and they tumbled to the ground.

The mage stood straight and walked by the bodies of the creatures, looking at them with an indifferent stare and only long enough to see the spears they carried. He stepped over their bodies and before he finished his step, a clawed hand wrapped itself around his ankle. One of the creatures sprang to life and latched onto his foot. Kaz swiped his hand and sent a blade of wind at his foe. The creature growled in pain as its arm was lopped off and rolled on the ground. Blood covered the ground and Kaz left the thing to bleed out. "Good. You still feel it," the ominous voice whispered in his mind, demanding his attention.

Kaz leaned forward and ran through the forest. Branches and twigs snapped as he galloped through them at breakneck speed. When the foliage became too thick he kicked off the ground with a gust of wind that left small windswept craters behind and propelled him into the trees. He ran from tree to tree through the forest. He was never more at home than among the wild.

The white scarf he wore trailed behind him caught in the breeze he generated. The wind mage jetted through the wild, looking over the land on the prowl. A rustle of leaves alerted him from above. With a quick glance, he saw the four creatures similar to the first, plunging down upon him with spears in hand. He took a deep breath and roared sending a vacuum of air at them. It collided with one and caused an eruption of air that sent the rest flying.

Without missing a beat he was back on the hunt until he arrived at a clearing. He stopped and perched on a think branch. The clearing away immense and there was a hole in the center that almost took up the entire span of the open area.

He moved close to the edge of the whole. The blades of grass bent beneath his feet. The area was quiet, and for once nothing jumped out to attack him. He crouched down and took each step with care until he was at the edge. The grass ended and rocks replaced it. A jagged ridge of rocks lined the sides of the hole.

Stalagmites hung from the sides. Nearly thirty meters down was a large dark pool of water rippling back and forth. There were other dark tunnels branching off to the sides. The wind mage knelt down to get a better look at things. Something was moving. The ripples in the water were from hundreds of dark fins and long bodies churning below.

"What's going on," He asked and gripped the sides of the collapsed hole, ready to fly down and deal with it.

"An army," A man's voice bellowed from the other side of the hole. Kaz snapped his focus up to see a man standing with long blue and black robes. His hair was short and dark. Wet grass and mud caked the bottom of his boots. "I'm building an army," he reiterated and the water below churned more violently.

"Are you the cause of all the trouble with the fisherman," Kaz prodded, already knowing what the answer was but needing verification.

"Oh. I am far more than just a problem for the fisherman. But tell me," he Cocked his head and circled around the hole. "What brings a member of the Seiryu clan all the way out here?"

Kaz was stunned. He had not met anyone in this country that knew of the clans. It made him more anxious and he stood to circle away from the man, keeping eye contact on him. Both men circled around the hole, walking counterclockwise, fixed on the other's movements.

"How do you know about them?" Kaz asked. Maybe he knew more than he was letting on. Hopefully, he didn't know that Kaz wasn't a born member of the clan and just adopted the name.

"When I heard one of their members were here. I had to see for myself. I have always wanted to rival their control over water. Stamping them out will do fine. Although you may be the last one if rumors are true."

Kaz clenched his jaw at the comment. He knew too much and it was dangerous. And it brought back sorrow memories. This is why the seraphim wanted him to come here. To let his wrath take hold of him.

"Let's see what you can do clansman," the man said and thrust one hand into the air. A tsunami of water erupted from the pit. it was a massive geyser that sprang out separating them from each other. Kaz jumped back and covered his face with his arm. Water sprayed across him.

A watery foot stepped out of the geyser and then the rest of a humanoid body that was three meters tall and broader than any man. The water-based creature was more like an ogre.

"A water elemental. My finest creations," The mysterious man yelled from the other side of the still flowing geyser.

Kaz uncovered his eyes just as a watery punch slammed into him and sent him hurling into a tree. He hit with a horrendous thud and fell to his feet. The pain yielded to adrenaline when the elemental charged again.

The wind mage rolled to the side and its watery maw clamped down on air. Anger swelled in the wind mage, wrath began to take hold of his heart. This man showed up knowing about him, put people in danger because to face him, and used power for his own greed and selfishness. And...used the Seiryu clan's techniques against him.

His eyes flashed white as he stared at the ground. his hand clawed at the dirt and grim. More elementals walked out of the geyser, two by two they filled their ranks. The force lumbered over the land and dripped their essence, watering the ground out their feet.

A pair of feather wings sprung from the nephilim's back and he stood up, his staff still hanging at his side. The wind rushed through the woods and swirled around him. The geyser rained down over the ground and all who stood near it. The feathered wings darkened under the heavy rainfall.

"Fine,"
he said through gritted teeth, letting wrath permeate his spirit and mingled with the roar of the tiger within him. The elemental lunged forward and Kaz dashed and dodged between them faster than they could follow. The hulking masses shifted back and forth throwing waves of water and punches only to hit the trail of wind left behind the mage.

The wind mage flew upward with a backflip and roared to the heavens. The sky turned dark and a dozen tornadoes ripped through the ground and crashed into the elementals. It swirled together into a hurricane of wind and water.

"WIND!" The man on the otherwise of the geyser tagged backward.

Kaz shot a powerful gust from his hand that tunneled into the geyser and scattered the water into the four winds. The man rose his hand again as Kaz darted forward. Water spray to life again and slammed into Kaz capturing him in its current. Elementals reformed and battered him in the aquatic prison.

The wind mage was jostled around and spat from the top of it, only for an elemental to grab his leg and pull him back into the torrent. Kaz sucked in a big gulp of air before being submerged. Within the giant column of water, a pocket of wind erupted.

Kaz made a circle with his arms and summoned a whirlwind that pushed back the water and elementals. It was a long enough moment for him to use the wind and dash out of the top of the reformed geyser. Below him was a mass of elemental bodies rolling around one another in the man-made whirlpool. They were ready to leap out and form a funnel of water. Kaz aimed his hands down and shot a column of wind that rammed into the geyser.

The two opposing forces heaved against each other, fighting for dominion. Water and wind spiraled out of the epicenter of the Collison. Kaz rolled to the side and let the geyser rush by him and win. The water wall was right next to him and cut across his face.

The wind mage roared once more and let the dozen tornadoes reform and crashed down exploding the area with wind and water infused by magic. Kaz sprang from one side to the other within seconds and closed the distance on the man. They both saw and hurled blades of wind and spears of water back and forth.

The attacks cut down the trees around them and collapsed more of the land into the tunnels below. Kaz ducked beneath a spear made of water as another stabbed into his ribs. He spat blood but fought through. His blade of wind slashed the water mage's back and Kaz moved dashed next to him. The man erupted in a water burst that knocked Kaz back but he was quick to catch himself.

With another push forward Kaz closed the distance and the tornadoes finally caught up to his enemy. The man was engulfed in a whirlwind and fell to the ground. Kaz stood above him and let his anger subsided along with the wind. The island had been torn up but the threat was down. He would need to interrogate him later, but for now, it seemed one of the major threats to the people were dealt with.

Kaz returned to Astera with his prisoner and let the people know they were finally okay again.
