"You want me to what?" Ko had done some odd jobs for this Theater during his time in Marigold. He'd murdered an up and coming actress for spreading rumors. He'd worked the curtains. He'd even starred as Romeo next to the local diva. This time, however, Rebecca's request was something else. On paper it was simple. Take a letter, written by her anonymously, then sneak into Alice's dressing room and leave it there for her to find. If all went according to plan, apparently, Alice would read the note and cut back on her usual nefarious antics. Supposedly. Somehow Ko didn't think it would go quite that way, but he wasn't going to argue with a paying customer, even if they were deluded. The real problem was sneaking his way into the dressing room in the first place. Ko didn't sneak. He was bad at sneaking and everyone knew it. When Ko wanted to go somewhere he did it loud, he did it proud, and he did it as violently as he wanted. Most of the time he kept that reigned in, but he was on the job right now. He wasn't accustomed to being concerned about other people's opinions while he was working. Well, perhaps that was disingenuous. He'd worried about other people's opinions when he'd been on stage. This wasn't all that different, in a way. He would just fail his job if the audience didn't believe his acting. Regardless, Rebecca was adamant that he take this job specifically. Something about him being the only one reliable enough to trust. That was a sad thing to hear. Ko didn't consider himself particularly trustworthy, after all. He killed for money, you know. If Alice found out who actually was behind this letter, she'd probably pay him to do it, in fact. And he would. The thought was actually kind of amusing. Regardless, he accepted the job, and left Rebecca's dressing room with the letter in hand. Show business really was cutthroat. 333/300 |

By this point Ko was practically a fixture around the theater. He knew a few of the stage hands by name, and more than a few of the actors and actresses knew him by virtue of his short stint among them as a peer. It was torturous to ignore the flirtatious winks from some of the women; they really sank their teeth in after all that Romeo nonsense. Never again. Thankfully, that familiarity made it easy to move through the backrooms until he reached his target. Alice's dressing room. There was only one problem; there was a guard standing outside. Ko couldn't recall there ever having been a guard outside her room before, so something must have been going on. Was Alice feeling pressure from another direction Rebecca didn't know about? Or was she counting on it? Ko put those thoughts out of his mind. The truth of the matter wasn't important: him getting into that room was. So, confidently, he approached the guard confidently, as if he'd been expected to be there. He gave the guard a curt jerk of his head, motioning over his shoulder and telling him that he could leave. Ko would be taking over now. The guard tried to argue for a moment but Ko was firm. He knew who Ko was, he knew Ko worked for Alice (when it suited him), and he knew what kind of work he did for Alice. Especially after the auditions recently. At the end of it all, the guard gave up and vacated. It was a fair move. Ko didn't recognize the man, so he was likely more hired help, just like himself. No reason to risk getting into a scuffle with someone else over the pittance guard work offered. So, with free access to Alice's dressing room, Ko looked around for a suitable location to leave the letter. The simplest solution was to just leave it on the desk, in plain view but to the side. Nice and easy. Of course, he'd just left the note in it's location and turned to approach the door when it slid open, and there was Alice in all her glory. Looking a little irritated, but surprised. He could work with surprised. 371/300 |

What was he doing in here? It was a simple question, but Ko was finding it a little difficult to answer. Not because telling the lie was hard. No, he had a dozen lies ready to go in case Alice caught him in her dressing room. The problem was that all of those lies required her to be both angry and eager to be rid of him. She was not. In fact, she seemed both surprised and a little pleased that she'd stumbled upon him in her dressing room. She mentioned the guard outside, wondering where he'd gone, and Ko quickly explained that he sent the man away. He didn't seem necessary while Ko was there, after all. That should have pissed her off even more, but instead she was grinning. Not just grinning, her entire posture was different. The way she walked across the room, she seemed more smug and full of herself than ever. Her hips had this cocky sway to them... Oh no. The realization of the situation hit Ko like a ton of bricks. Alice was exactly the sort of woman who finds a strange man in her dressing room and assumes he's there because he's looking for a clandestine encounter. Especially if said man had shown no interest in any previous encounters. Ko desperately wanted to tell her she was incorrect; it'd have been the most hilarious thing ever to see her smug face crumple. Alas, he had a job to do, and in this case, she was dangerously close to finding the letter before he left the room. In fact, she was now sitting on the edge of her own desk, legs crossed, arms propping her body up in perhaps the most licentious display Ko had ever seen. She was talking, musing aloud about whatever might have possessed Ko to invade her private space like this. Her gaze was wandering in fake thought, coming dangerously close to spying the letter. So Ko made a move. Using all the acting skill he may or may not have had, Ko quickly advanced on Alice's position. His expression was a careful mix of desire and apprehension; an expression Alice herself had taught him. He wanted Alice to think that he was here against his better judgement, acting outside of his right mind. To his luck, Alice wasn't an idiot; before he could get close enough to put his hands on her, her heeled foot hit him in the chest, stopping him in his tracks. She kept him there, purposely putting herself on tasteful display, while keeping him at bay with her foot. It was a simple message: she's in charge, and he gets what he wants when she says so. Of course, all Ko wanted was to get out of the room, so when Alice finally got tired to 'antagonizing' him and told him he could come back when she called for him, he was happy to oblige. Let her think she had a loyal dog looking to lick her feet. He got paid, and he knew she wasn't as on top as she wanted to be. That was good enough for him. 528/300 1232/1000 |
