As Steel swung around during his roundhouse kick he witnessed as his team was in trouble. Mary was hit by an arrow, Lucas was hit by one of those big balls of fire that Steel had just barely dodged earlier. He was badly hurt. After doing his roundhouse kick Steel looked behind himself again to check if everything was alright. He still had to deal with those annoying archers. He just had to see if things were alright even if they didn’t seem to be fine the last time he looked.
Now that he looked back he was stunned. It seemed Lucas had lost one of his arms and was a total badass cauterizing his own wound using the lava. Steel was in awe of how badass his friend was but well he was also very worried. All this thinking was soon brought to an abrupt halt as Steel heard the voice of his father telling him to run. In a weird way it was as if no one else could hear the voice but to Steel it was so real. Almost as if he was back there on that day again.
The heat from the lava really put him on the spot. It was just like the flames from the farm burning down. His entire world stopped and he fell down kneeling. He didn’t know what to do. The lava was rising. He was panicking. If only he would have had the strength to save his parents. He hadn’t even been able to avenge them yet.
He slowly rose up. The confusion coupled with the panic attack had drained him of almost all his power. But he would be damn sure not to die here. He even struggled to walk as he slowly made his way to the next rock trying to gain some altitude so that the lava wouldn’t melt him.

And it felt wonderful~!
In stark contrast, the kobolds were gripped by sudden dread. And it squeezed tightly. Fear was a terrible thing, slowing every action by a fraction of a moment. While Odin had the shaman situation under control, Mary shuffled soundlessly past him. Like her feet weren’t even touching the ground. Her attention was focused on the blurry forms of the warrior stragglers before her. She covered her face and started sobbing softly. A magic circle formed before her face. Only one person here had seen the spell before and may have known what was coming. For the rest it would be a surprise...
Upon getting close enough, the ghoulish woman revealed her teary-eyed visage with a chilling scream. A purple torrent of magic shot out of her mouth and clashed against one of the warrior kobolds. While it was barely potent enough to dent the heavy armor, it still proved dangerous. Gripped by the supernatural fear courtesy of a certain gentleman, the warrior kobold wavered. His trembling knees buckled and he toppled backwards right into the fatal bath.

The kobolds knew they were in trouble. He was in position, next to the shamans, exerting his Fear aura out towards them and making them all aware of how terrible they were. The next few moments were a blur. Lucas may have lost one arm, but he still had the other arm, which allowed him to use the attached spell. He dashed five times overall, one for each shaman, as they were situated close to each other. Each dash involved one, perhaps two, punches, which allowed him to deal all the damage required to break necks, faces and chests. Either the shamans died instantly, or they bled out. Regardless, even with only one fist to attack them with, the blinding flash of Lucas was enough to take them all out. Their fireballs would be no more, allowing for each of the Fairy Tail mages to deal with the remaining kobolds unhindered.

A few other Kobolds were still on Zane's tail after the initial few. Luckily it seemed the older gentleman's performance was enough to make him a bigger star, something Zane was both thankful for yet also jealous of. His wound would soon remind him that he had no time to be goofing off, though. The shamans were most definitely the most dangerous, but the warriors were still something to be cautious of as well. Shooting one of the warriors in the leg with his revolver, impeding its movement unless it would manage to heal itself, Zane backed off as a couple more made chase. Zane's hand moved back to his wound, It hurt like hell. He'd pant a little, running from the Kobolds. His revolver still needed a while longer to properly cool down. There wasn't much else he could right now but evade what attacks came his way. Running for his life was not something Zane was exactly thrilled to do, especially in front of his guildmates. But it wasn't really about if he wanted to or not, now was it?

For some reason this voice in Steel’s head kept telling him things. The voice of his father and sometimes the voice of his mother whispered to him about power and how to gain it by avenging them.
An arrow was about to hit Steel again but even in the absent minded state Steel was now in he was capable of blocking the arrow. He swung his executioner's sword around making the arrow hit the sword instead of Steel. The sword was big enough to almost act as a shield. If anything it was a very rectangular shield as the sword was as long as Steel but only slightly as wide. Swinging it around in a circle almost made it look like Steel was wielding a gigantic roundshield.
He looked up at whoever had shot the arrow at him, in a weird way what was once a volcano with kobolds in it was now a volcano with bandits. He was hallucinating. It seemed weird how the once heroic Steel turned into something not unlike a gigantic bloodhound as drool started making its way down his chins. He felt only hate, rage and sadness.
In this blackout state of hatred Steel started sprinting towards the next kobold/bandit. His usual heroic and weirdly elegant fighting stance had turned into a haunched over berserking form that dragged the executioner's sword behind it(Like “pyramid head.”) The executioner's sword at times even dragged a little in the lava as he ran and jumped on the rocks to get up to the first kobold/bandit which he cleft in twain with a wild overhead slash.
Like a roided up beastman he looked to the next kobold and went for it as well. The third one he killed by digging his feet into the ground and then lounging forwards like the great beast he currently was. He was then thrust forward 12.5 meters at 12.5m/s. Meaning he covered the distance in no less than one second. While doing this he held his sword in front of him like a spear. Upon meeting with the kobold it was impaled on the executioner's sword. This ended the threat of kobold archers. The only kobolds left now were a larger group of swordsmen, axemen and other types of close quarters armed kobolds.
The sword seemed to heal all the damage that had been done to it earlier. It was as if the blood from the creatures became new iron for the sword. Anyone viewing Steel would not be able to recognize him due to the large amount of blood that covered him from head to toe. He was a crimson red berserker and nothing in this cave would probably be capable of stopping his rampage.

And then there was the third soul...
Seeing the blood-soaked berserker go on a crimson rampage filled the ghoulish woman with terror. ...And some other emotions that were quite confusing and deeply inappropriate. Mesmerized by the macabre display, she simply followed in his wake. Well, maybe that was among the safer places to be right now... At least she wouldn’t get in the way. At this rate, they would run out of enemies any second now. While shuffling along, she also tried to search for an exit. No doors or even caverns in sight... Perhaps there was some sort of condition to getting out of here...?

"You were supposed to the one to set me free. You amounted to nothing in the end. A failure." Odin heard a familiar voice whisper something in his ears. At first, he was pleased to hear HER voice, however, his mood quickly changed when he heard HER words. She was right. |

In an instant, that all changed. The kobolds were on him before Lucas could react, with one of them slashing down on his gauntlet, shattering the already damaged weapon and leaving Lucas defenceless. But the mage wasn't paying them any heed, not now. A voice echoed in his head, a voice he had heard only twice before. HER voice. His goddess, his mistress, his reason for existing.
SHE... was displeased with the Lich. He had thus far failed to free HER and, he was worthless in HER eyes. Those words, from that voice, pierced Odin to his very core, doing more damage than any number of kobolds could even hope to inflict. Lucas' motivation had left him, he allowed his weapon to be destroyed, he, Odin, was a failure.
He avoided a downward vertical slash by one of the beasts, not having the energy to do anything beyond push it into the lava, where it screamed and burned to death. More than anything else, his survival instinct was the only thing keeping him alive. A desire to keep going, one which the Lich no longer felt like he possessed. The two remaining kobolds attacked in unison, with Lucas grabbing one's axe and blocking the other's attack with it. He then kicked the second kobolds into the lava, before decapitating the final beast with his own axe. The other kobolds weren't near him. Perhaps they would come towards him, perhaps they would attack Steel. Odin couldn't care less. More than ever before, he was a shell of his normal self: broken, his usual energy just... gone.

"I haven't grown. I haven't gotten anywhere. Everyone keeps flying past me while I stay the same. I only wish I had a way to be like them." Zane's own voice echoed through his head, though it was not his own thoughts he was hearing right now. Something about this other voice in his mind seemed older, more mature, yet also much more solemn. |
Sat Jul 11, 2020 11:25 pm
That wasn't his mind... in all of his years, Zane had never really had two voices in his head at the same time. The voice that Zane heard just then was him, but it wasn't really HIM. It felt so different... the sound was the same, but the tone was off. Would he ever be like that? Was he going crazy, or was it something more? Finally arriving at the edge of the volcano, Zane decided to circle it while he tried to gather his bearings on the situation. One of the men seemed to be entering some sort of crazed state, which was certainly an... interesting sight. A frightening one too. Zane wondered if the man even had his sanity left... after they were done fighting countless kobolds, would he be the next one they would have to fight? Or would he have enough sanity left not to attack them?
Zane still had room for one more big bullet he could fire off. For now though, he decided not to try to fire anything off. He needed to save it. It seemed the others were faring just well for now - if anything, him distracting a bunch of lesser kobolds seemed to be a good idea. The ones left chasing him were left with only swords. Zane had been outrunning them at a decent pace so far. He wasn't quite useless, though he was certainly close to it. A stalling machine was better than nothing, though. Just needed to watch out for those throwing axes - the last one he dodged was almost entirely luck.

At this point the voices had begun breaking Steel down. What was once the very definition of a frontline hero was now nothing more than a weird raging sniveling mess. Tears ran down his face and drools came down the sides of his mouth in waterfalls. He made a weird quiet almost screaming noise from time to time as his sanity slipped in and out. During his absolute mental breakdown in his head he saw the images of his mother telling him bedtime stories and his father pushing him on a swing in the midday sun. However the images constantly changed into those of his parents defiled corpses and the farm burning. His parents screamed in his head as they were dying whilst whenever the image switched back to the more peaceful stuff he could hear the soft voice of his mother and the proud strong voice of his father. He screamed “Make it stop, Make the voices stop.”
Steel in reality was just weirdly chasing and killing kobold after kobold after kobold swinging wildly like a beast. No longer could his image be known because now he was simply raging at anything and everyone. He was hallucinating that he was killing bandits. And when he had no more kobolds to go for his anger and his rage became focused on his teammates instead. What was once Lucas was now the leader of the bandits. Steel smiled weirdly as if showing his fangs. He rushed at Lucas. He wanted to kill Lucas. He dashed making his way for Lucas and when getting close enough he raised his sword as if to attack but in a split second he stopped hallucinating. He was about to attack and maybe kill Lucas when he hesitated. He stopped attacking midway.

When the rampaging warrior hesitated, the ghoulish shadow closed the distance behind him with a quick lunge. Even in motion, she was utterly silent. Only her haunting voice trailed to his ears. “Are you going to kill me too...? Please...?” As she nervously twiddled her fingers together, a magic seal depicting a skull appeared at her feet. Suddenly her shadow stretched like a tendril, trying to latch onto the man’s shadow. If the shadows touched, a grim skull would appear behind his back. It would bring a chilling wave of weakness as his Constitution slipped away. Hopefully it would give the gentleman a better chance to stop the madness.
Because alone she didn’t have enough power to stop anything.

He was fast, faster than Lucas since the former had lost an arm and his weapon, which gave him more speed to work with, but the elderly mage had the advantage of knowing what to expect. The man had a big sword, and was coming towards him. Steel's options were fairly limited. He dashed towards the Lich, and swung his sword, but paused. It was only for a moment, but it was enough that he seemed to lose any momentum in his swing, giving Lucas the chance to subdue him. His only remaining hand grabbed Steel's blade by the hilt, manoeuvring past the reach of the sword and getting close, before he shoved the man with all his might, separating him from his weapon and, if possible, kicking him even further. Odin's kicks were still powerful enough to cause some damage, even in his weakened state. If successful, Steel would be without his weapon, making the fight between the hero and the cripple much more fair.

Raising his revolver, Zane groaned in frustration. "Are we really going to do this, man? C'mon now..." Zane pointed the revolver at the Kobold. The kobold stared at Zane. Zane wasn't going to look away. This staring continued on for about 30 seconds. Zane had gotten ready to fire, but it seemed as though the kobold was far too frightened. All of its friends were gone. There was no way it could take on any of these mages on its own. Turning around, the kobold jumped into the lava. Zane was very visibly shocked. "Oh. Well, that was kind of a grim ending."
