Ikazuchi

‘My least favorite time of the year, back again…’ Ikazuchi found himself within an alternate dimension, his adventurous spirit forcing him to accept the challenge of the infamous haunt that had recently appeared. Although he had largely conquered his fears of ghosts and ethereal beings, he still held a large dislike for them as they were inconvenient to deal with. Even with his assortment of weapons, he normally wouldn’t seek out an encounter like this. It was only due to his recent research into spirits that led to his reluctant arrival and exploration, not to mention his unwillingness to admit defeat. Of course, he wasn’t here for free either. An open request was released for anyone willing to enter and locate a method to allow the spirit wandering the halls of an Imperial Palace to resolve the dangers, and he wouldn’t pass up an opportunity for free jewels since he was there already for personal reasons. This truly was supposed to be a simple exploration and request, something he could resolve easily; at least that’s what he thought initially. Unfortunately, things never seem to go as planned.

TRAITOR!! A howl that seemed to shake the space he was in resounded almost immediately after he stepped foot in the corridor, twenty meters ahead was a semi-illusory man dressed in regal attire. Held in the man’s right hand was an ornate jian, clearly designed to represent the status of the wielder. “Motherfucker…” Ikazuchi was taken aback at the sight as there was only one piece of advice given that should absolutely be followed that came to mind. ‘Avoid the emperor’s gaze at all costs.’ Naturally, he failed to do so immediately as his luck dropped him directly in front of the spirit without a chance to follow that advice.

Immediately, Ikazuchi’s domain spread out as the surrounding twenty-five meter radius reflected in his mind. The floor, walls, and ceiling all showed signs of transformation. ‘This is like being in a Dragon’s lair!’ There wasn’t a moment of hesitation as the emperor’s sword pointed in his direction resulting in the surrounding transformation accelerating. Clarent was summoned into his right hand as he had naturally shifted into position to swing downward. The iconic red glow of the sword clearly indicated what would follow. His arm dropped as various weapons, creatures, and terracotta soldiers formed blasting a volatile red wave of energy toward the emperor.

Through his insight, he could capture clearly that only the traps were reverted to the undamaged fiver meter wide and ten meter tall hall with a completely unaffected emperor standing amidst his mana. “Of course it’s not that fucking easy….” He turned without a second thought and blindly escaped to avoid being trapped to death by the emperor.

He had learned a lot during this short encounter; First, the Emperor’s spirit and palace cannot be damaged. Second, the emperor can freely manipulate areas within according to his will. Third, the method used does not rely on mana at all. He wasn’t an expert in dimensions, but he could only assume that there was some connection between the pocket dimension and the emperor preventing any damage from occurring within or to the emperor. Drawing from his experience as a craftsman, it was highly likely that you would need to be able to completely destroy the space without a trace to do any true damage to either the palace or the emperor.

‘This is just a tactical retreat.’ By now, his attack had settled and an incoherent rage filled roar echoed through the halls. Only time would tell if his escape would be successful, and deep down he hoped to encounter someone else in this labyrinth of a palace who could help resolve the issue.

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

Quiet were the steps of the Demoness as she wandered the halls. It’s eerie silence, oddly felt calming to her but it wasn’t like she was alone. Right behind her were two shadows, one dark as the thick of night and the other as pale as the woman’s hair. The oddity of the occurrence was now lost on her, as she grew accustomed to her sisters. And the two swans would slide along the surfaces, ever vigilant and watching.

”All this mess for treasure,” Lumikki sighed, her voice sounding like the howling tundra winds sliding along the hardened ice. ”Not like that’s the only reason that dragged me here…” Lumikki was walking down a long hallway within an old, decrepit palace. A remnant to a long lost Emperor who could afford to be more long and lost. Tales speak of his restless soul still wondering the grounds, moaning of the time in which he was betrayed. Foul ghost didn’t bother the Demoness however, only brought out her curiosity. She enjoyed immersing herself in tales of old, but what could compare to the beings of such stories still full of life.

As Lumikki stalked the halls, her talons dragged across the walls and her gaze fell upon each and every tapestry the hung high from ropes fastened to the ceiling. Their colors dulled by time, yet there were moments when reality flickers as if showing the time back when. And so, Lumi would watch them closes as windows to their prime, while her ears stayed peeled for any sudden sounds. That was until she felt this urge to look elsewhere, Hlaðguðr must of noticed something. Before Lumikki could turn, vision of a small girl in full white passed through her mind. It seemed to the Raven that Svanvartr was prompting to a wayward ghost nearby.

Tucked just behind the corner of a doorway, a child clung to the wall. Her face half shown but tears ran down her hollowed pale cheek, falling through her translucent flesh. Her sniffles, that weren’t audible before, now filled the air as if attention to her activated her presence. And Lumikki, not scared and neither bothered, slowly approached the wee lass.

”Brave one, aren’t ye girl.” Lumikki’s eye’s were already lit in the darkness, but her gold pupils burned now like something more. While her blue tattoos atop her dark as night skin shimmered in unison. The wings atop the Demoness’ head, pulled back and folded accordingly, so what she may crouch and look onto the girl with full face. The child, startled at first, ducked behind the doorway; but her sniffles didn’t disappear and neither did she. Perhaps the small girl thought she wasn’t visible, an idea that didn’t come to Lumikki’s thoughts until right after.

”Now, now lass. No need to hide from me now child. What brought ye to me anyhow? Entertain me, and I’ll ye~” The Raven poked her head, here eyes leveled to the small girl who did her best to face her. “—There’s…there’s a man.” With stammered words like one amid a cry, cutting into her breath so that it was a struggle to speak. The small ghost tried to convey her point, but was still quite scared to do so. Lumikk nodded, as if to encourage her to go on, while tucking her wings before her face to spare the girl the sight of her. All while shifting back into a human form with cool brown skin, dark stained hands, and eyes like the twilight with one gold while the other a spectral purple. By the time Lumikki pulled her pale wings back, they melded with her hair until no more and the girl who was silent was another step away.

“There’s a man in the palace….danger….the Emperor will see…..then everyo—“ The cryptic warning did not last however, as the girl simple ceased to be. Her words learning just as sudden as her ghastly form, leaving Lumikki to be back in her lonesome and company of her sisters. ”How curious,” Lumikki began, only to be cut off as well when the sound of a man screeched in the distance. Traitor, were his words, but they sounded nothing human. A chuckle broke from her lips, now that things were getting lively. There was more of a reason to move about with agency again.

”Hlaðguðr and Svanvartr!” Lumikki exclaimed, her arm outstretched in the direction of the commotion. With little need for further words, her two shadows slid along the ground as if swimming, before poking up through the surface while remaining in flight. The two shadows then separated, taking two paths toward their goal in hopes that splitting up could aid in finding said man.

Lumikki however, stayed back. Pondering a place she had pass that could shelter them both. Giving the man to catch his breath should he survive the ordeal that was.

───  ─── ─── ─── ───∘°❉°∘ ─── ─── ─── ─── ───

The stark white figure darted along the grounds, following the foot steps she heard in the distance. Her wings could’ve open in full despite the grand space of the hallways, but she had enough to pick up and keep momentum despite the many winding turns. Finally, she would see the man in question. Clamored in thick armor with red accents. His short brown hair strewn back with his heavy stride and his pale face muddled in a panicked expression.

It took a bit for Lumikki and Hlaðguðr to adjust, but soon the white swan would cut in front of the man before repositioning to his side and stride. Before she would speak however, she’d first fling an arm back. A gesture that ushered a thick frozen wall to form behind them. ”Nice to know where the Emperor is, I suppose..” Lumikki’s voice channeled through the pale figure. ”Follow me lad, let us hide for a moment. I’d like to know what ye know, if ye don’t mind.” A smirk as cheeky as Lumikki could muster, shown through Hlaðguðr‘s face which mirrored her own. The pale shadow looked like Lumikki exactly, save for being white from head to toe.

Ikazuchi

Shit…” At the very edge of his perception Ikazuchi captured rapid changes to not only the structure of the palace, but even the antiquated decor. It had clearly slowed compared to the initial encounter under the direct observation of the Emperor’s spirit, but it was still keeping pace with his perception. He couldn’t help but feel bitter as the signs of acceleration clearly indicated that the Emperor was also gaining on him. ‘What kind of emperor has good cardio?!’

Ten meters ahead on his left, he caught sight of another hallway connected to this one that he immediately decided he would aim for. It was clear that breaking line of sight was helpful to his escape. What he forgot was that there were already many traps spread naturally throughout the palace without anything influencing it. A heart piercing mechanical click resounded through the hall, deafening compared to his silent steps and almost inaudible steady breathing.

Countless gaps along both walls extending until just before the hallway he aimed to reach opened with little delay. He didn’t have a second to slow down or hesitate as his mana burst into his Cloud Ring at the first sign that the gaps were opening. Mid-stride, a small platform of condensed mana formed which he aggressively pushed off of to propel himself upward while maintaining his running momentum.

Through his perception, he captured countless needles pelting the opposing walls harmlessly with a sound akin to rain due to the sheer volume. Chills shot down his spine as he processed how close he was to a one-of-a-kind acupuncture treatment, absolute death guaranteed. That wasn’t even considering the potential poisons that are generally used to coat weapons like that.

He couldn’t help but suppress his idle thoughts as he continued to skillfully manipulate the mana into footholds that allowed him to continue maintaining his speed as he shot higher and higher until he reached the hallway he originally aimed for. With an aggressive step, he naturally forced a turn into the hallways using the weight of his armor and angle of the platform to rapidly descend into it only using the platforms to remain just above the ground and avoid his previous misfortune.

...the fuck is that?” Ikazuchi initially thought he had a moment to breathe, but he caught sight of an extremely rapid figure approaching from further down the corridor. He had grown accustomed to a certain level of understanding when observing other individuals, but this one triggered nothing. At the same time though, it was clear that they weren’t an illusory spirit bound to this dimension. He didn’t have the luxury to slow down as the emperor was continuing his pursuit, so he could only hope for the best.

What he observed next left him somewhat stunned as the woman in all white skillfully maneuvered past him before circling back to match his pace. ‘Am I the one in need of some cardio?’ Ikazuchi couldn’t help but feel the piercing gaze of the emperor on his back at this moment as well. His firm dislike for this time of the year was only strengthened as he observed the all white anomaly that just took its place to his side and the emperor who was just on the edge of his perception.

It was a short moment later when the figure swung her arm back and formed an ice wall creating a barricade between them and the emperor. It was only then that the woman spoke and Ikazuchi spared the time to directly observe her with his eyes. He couldn’t prevent his gaze from momentarily freezing as he looked towards her eyes. The snow white color which extended to all other facettes registered in his mind with slight discomfort as he still couldn’t understand who or what had appeared.

It was at that moment that the figure addressed him directly, drawing him out of his state of contemplation. “That would be good. Truthfully, I don’t think that wall will be able to hold him long so I will follow you.” Although there was a hard to explain discomfort lingering within him, it wasn’t expressed outwardly due to his focused state. In some ways, due to his perception that developed, his lack of direct attention could be interpreted as rude considering the fact that his gaze focused forward intent on catching traps ahead of time whenever possible. He intended to save the introductions and information sharing for after they arrived at a safer location that she seemed confident in guiding him to.

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

”Oh I know,” Hlaðguðr remarked, she dashed in flight just a bit more ahead of him, ”but if they were right in what they said….cutting off sight would do us well.” She swung her left arm closing of the path of and incoming doorway, before veering off to the right and dipping into the next entrance. After a few more meters in utter silence, Hlaðguðr finally slowed down a little to match the man again. ”If he falls for it, he should have assumed we went that way…” Her head turns about as she scanned their surroundings.

The three sisters knew at once when Hlaðguðr found Ikazuchi, like cords inter-woven in a knot, they were linked intimately. Svanvartr wasted no time, before returning to the Demoness she’d lay traps, albeit more like distractions. Things to entertain the Emperor as the pair traversed the hallways, though they could hear the damage of things collapsing in the far distance.

All while a deep cold had overtaken the air, it was like fine chill hung heavy around them almost as if they stepped into wayward tundra. Hlaðguðr was free from the cold, but the fog showed with every passing of Ikazuchi‘s breath. Its size growing with each pant before trailing behind him.

To the normal sort, they’d be heading into the darkness now. The smothering depths of an encroaching pitch black veil was draining all color from the space before them. Cutting off any chances of more lingering eyes. ”Watch yer step,” Lumikki mused, ”ye’ll find me soon enough now.” A honeyed sweet chuckle escape her lips before being cut off mid way, the channel was now severed leaving Ikazuchi alone with a deathly silent shadow to guide him.

A few more passing hallways, and the two enter a room. It was as large as any other they’ve passed. The furniture inside had fell to shambles, the wall’s colors stood muted without the thick darkness that hung to drown them further. Pieces of shattered, ornate vases littered the floor. Portraits of the late Emperor was torn on the wall. The decor and lanterns that hung from the ceiling came halfway to the floor, if not, resting on the ground while the cords that still held them were worn and loose.

Hlaðguðr and Svanvartr closed the sliding doors to the entrance. The panels scratching as they dragged, creating an awful and eerie sound. They then stepped forward and both pointed to the Demoness sitting atop the chair’s back with outstretched arms, before melding back into the ground. Sinking into the floor and sliding back to Lumikki until the three were once again connected.

Lumi sat with her back facing toward them, one leg bent while the other hung loose and swinging about. Feet bare, she rested her arm on her knee, head pointed upward and eyes closed. Until a deep sigh escaped from her lips and she slowly turned her head to gaze upon the visitor. Lumikki’s lips pulled back in a smile, boarding on a smirk that showed her fangs, and she spoke with a voice like smooth velvet and a inching chill. ”Greetings lad. What brings ye to this these God’s forsaken lands?—Was it the treasure?” Her last words came out like an excited gasp, layering the playfulness of her tone to a point of absurdity. Her cool brown skin and sharp gloam eyes upon the man as she greeted him in human form. But her insight had bore into him as his perhaps to her. The two sister’s silhouettes were cast upon the chair’s surface, their stare lingering as they watched the man carefully.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi was lost in thought as he quietly observed the white figure’s actions, unsure what to add in response to her statement about the Emperor’s line of sight. He unconsciously nodded as his own observations suggested that this was the best choice for managing the spirit’s attention. During the time that the woman led him forward, his gaze didn’t leave her back. Each wave of the arm was clearly analyzed as the movements as mana shifted according to her will. Tension faded from him as he decided to return Clarent to the sub-space along with his other weapons.

Although he couldn’t understand what she was, he accepted that currently she was in the same position as him. Doubting the good will shown wouldn’t do him any good. It was around this time that she slowed her pace to match his own and addressed him again. “Good thinking; I doubt he will stop chasing us anytime soon considering the introduction I gave.” A smirk naturally formed as he recalled the initial blast with Clarent that he had unleashed.

As they moved, he became aware that not only did the white woman give the impression of fresh fallen snow found atop the peaks of the Oddr Mountains, a distinct chill accompanied her as well. The drop in temperature was still something he could tolerate, but the white trail left by each warm breath was the clearest visible indication of the change. ‘Good thing the cold never bothered me anyway…’

Moving alongside her, Ikazuchi’s pace didn’t falter even as they stepped into the dense darkness reminiscent of the abyss. The playful warning from his side suggested that it was likely something the woman had conjured, so he was less concerned. “No worries, I could do this blindfolded.” It had been a long time since Ikazuchi felt the impact of darkness or night, and the insight into his domain ensured that he wouldn’t have any issues now more than ever.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t even be sure that his response was received. The cryptic statement and abrupt halt to her chuckle made it clear that something had changed. An eerie shift in demeanor was captured in his senses, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint what changed. ‘Based on what she said, it won’t be long until I have my answers anyways.’

Their silent march through the dark halls continued for a short time until they arrived at a room. The woman led the way into it, but he was already evaluating the space before he even escaped the darkness. Once he entered, he paused in place and scanned the room to confirm the colors and finer details that he missed. “I love what you’ve done with the place.” Out of habit, he couldn’t help but joke as he witnessed the dilapidated state of the room. In particular, his gaze lingered a bit longer on the remains of the Emperor’s portrait. Among the tattered remnants were the eyes which Ikazuchi fixated on. Perhaps due to the skill of the painter, he felt the wisdom and authority radiating outward. For just a moment, he felt a trace of pity for the man who had been betrayed long ago.

He couldn’t help but shake his head as his gaze finally followed the direction of the white and black figures who had closed the sliding door behind him. Finally looking at her directly, Ikazuchi understood who he had encountered. ‘So, this is Lumikki, huh?’ His thoughts naturally drifted back to the many statements of his Guild Master and their unique relationship. ‘This should go well then.’ Hearing her address him, he finally answered his questions regarding the white woman as well. He couldn’t be sure of the mechanism, but it was clear that they shared some unique connection. ‘Seems to be different compared to my Sword Spirit though…’

Greetings lad. What brings ye to these God’s forsaken lands?—Was it the treasure?

It’s nice to finally meet you.” Ikazuchi surprisingly didn’t feel any ill will towards the woman who represented the Guild he had once despised. Perhaps it was due to the lack of connection she had at the time when the previous iteration of Sleeping Calamity clashed with Paradise Dawn. “I’m Ikazuchi, I’ve heard about you from my Guild Master.” He paused for just a moment after his introduction before continuing. “As for why I’m here, I guess you could say that’s part of it? Hmmm…” Ikazuchi contemplated for a moment before he raised his left hand, palm facing upward as if to offer something for the Demoness to see. “More importantly…” The easily neglected sword blade hovered from its position behind his back to be pointed downward just over his palm rotating harmlessly. “...I’m here to research spirits in order to strengthen this spirit of mine.” He wasn’t sure how else to elaborate, but he also wouldn’t be opposed if she had any insight into similar spirits. His gaze matched Lumikki’s without shifting, but his thoughts naturally drifted back to the two figures at her back.

After a moment, Ikazuchi would naturally dismiss the spirit back to its original position. “I’m more curious about what could bring you here, all things considered?” He contemplated the treasure, but the reward wasn’t particularly significant. It was a pleasant surprise to have her here, but it now raised the question of whether he got himself into more trouble than it was worth.

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

Lumikki’s glowing eyes came to life at his introduction and the mention of his Guild Master made her heart flutter. Enough so that all her edges softened. After all, she regard Sleeping Calamity as if it were her own. ”Dazzling isn’t he? Leadership suits him as the swords ya bear suit ye.” Voice like a purr, Lumikki readjusted herself on the seat, sliding from the back so that her feet plopped of the cushion and with another step, onto the floor.

The Demoness approached him just as he stretched out his arm, palm open, as a sword from behind would fix itself atop his hand. Spinning ever so elegantly and steady. Lumi, seeing rather clearly from where she was, still chose to get closer. Her face and eyes but a few inches from the blade as she took in the spectacle and gave his desires some thought.

”I wouldn’t have of guessed from the sight of ye. Quite the niche interest I’d say.” Lumikki pulled back as Ikazuchi retired his blade. ”I can’t tell ye I’m a specialist, but I admit reading some old stories. Amid the tales, there might be enough truth to get yer answers. Here being a fine place to start, though….hmmm perhaps Sága knows of a bette’ one….I really do have to grow that library of mine—but my, what fine motivation I suppose.” Standing before him rather short in stature, her pale hair was half braided and pulled back in a bun to keep out of her face. The beads that rotated around her neck shimmered before flicking from a deep violet-blue into golden pearls that shifted her face markings into red dashes and sent small sparks throughout her hair, which continued to ripple amid her locks long after activation. She wore a black and white dress, both colors nearly split at the middle. Ribbons as well as tassels hung from the front with intricate embroidery all about in images of flowers and feathers. The puffed up sleeves covered her black talon like hands and arms, though there was a sheer layer embellished in design and details. And while her top have was adorned and dress, her legs and feet in comparison were left expose. With nothing but the dark clinging to her feature so that she was not in direct contact with the floor.

Lumikki felt a deep sense of honor, a sensation she could surmise was funneled by Hlaðguðr who vouched for his warrior spirit. And flashes of dancing swords played within her mind, a vision she’d have to owe to Svanvartr who mused about his moving sword. If one would bother to noticed, they’d note the shadow in black giggle ever so slightly, while the white remained relatively still. ”Me?” She spoke with the bashful tone of someone surprised. ”He worries about me sisters, least, it’s fun to jest. No, as for me. I’m simply here to witness a story come to life. Not often ye get to live the tales written upon a page. Course, all this speak of stories must be getting annoying. Tell me more about her encounter?” As she spoke, she wandered back to the seat and plopped herself upon the chair. Hlaðguðr and Svanvartr however stood where they were, a barrier between the Demoness and the man before them.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi couldn’t help but smile as he witnessed the entire demeanor of the Demoness shift. The pride and adoration she felt was clear for even Ikazuchi to understand. Regardless of her actual age, or any other factors, he appreciated her sentiments which gave him the impression of innocence. He naturally couldn’t know the true nature of the relationship, but in that moment he glimpsed something he considered rare in her gaze.

The course of events continued to progress naturally as she made her way to stand just in front of him, inspecting the spirit from close enough for her breath to flow against it. ‘It seems that bringing him up was the right choice…’ Considering the trust put on display with her close approach, Ikazuchi naturally relaxed further. Despite knowing that there had to be some confidence involved in her choice, there wasn’t any doubt in his mind that she had opened up more out of consideration for the relationship that connects them.

Even if I don’t care for other spirits, this one’s a bit special…” He considered whether he should explain it directly for a moment before deciding to leave it at that. Following that statement of his, she introduced her experiences and shared a suggestion for how he may be able to obtain more information. “In that case, if you’ll have me, I will have to visit your library in the future.” It was possible that he would have already achieved the breakthrough with his spirit by the time he could, but he didn’t doubt for a moment that there would be countless rare and unique pieces of information considering her status, whether it be as a Demon, the leader of a country, or the master of a leading guild. Each aspect alone justified a plethora of knowledge and information, not to mention someone who had so many circumstances overlap.

Once again, he found himself inspecting her alongside the white and black shadows that matched her appearance. If there was anything that stood out to him, it would be the distinct lack of clothing for her lower half as well as the shadows which covered and separated her from the ground. Compared to his own methods, hers were clearly superior. Still, he hadn’t stopped similarly standing on mana footholds just above the ground.

Hearing his question about her motivations addressed, Ikazuchi naturally raised a brow with a slight smile as he considered her response. ‘So, she’s essentially an observer?’ That was how Ikazuchi felt about the given answer, not that he had any reason to doubt it. No matter how ridiculous the space became, it was naturally still below a mage of her caliber unless it was for simple amusement.

The encounter, huh?” Ikazuchi couldn’t hide his displeasure as he recalled his experiences since his arrival. “I don’t think there’s a need to cover anything after I met…” He couldn’t prevent a pause as he recognized that he didn’t know the white woman’s name, or if she even had one previously. “...her?” His brows furrowed slightly in annoyance at the realization, but he was also more than willing to continue despite that.

You recall how we need to enter this space, right?” His gaze was fixed solely on Lumikki, but he didn’t truly give her a chance to respond. “I was unlucky enough to find my way right in front of the emperor.” Once again, Ikazuchi paused just to finally shift the attention back to the dilapidated portrait belonging to the Emperor. “As you may have found out, he has some weird ability to manipulate basically every aspect of the palace and observing others seems to drive him into a frenzy.

He hesitated for several seconds at this point as there was more he intended to share, but they weren't fully confirmed and successful either ‘Fuck it, what can it hurt, right?’ It was a truly reckless-sounding thought, but his observations could at least be considered educated due to his extensive knowledge about the fundamental principles behind spells, magic, and common spirits.

I have a bit more about my experience to add, but it’s not fully confirmed either.” Ikazuchi looked to her for confirmation before continuing. “As you can probably imagine, I swung my sword first since that resolves most problems. In this case though, it was all I could do to push back the massively accelerated transformations in the palace since he didn’t take the slightest bit of damage.” Ikazuchi’s fists clenched as he expressed his greatest concern. “Worse than that, he didn’t seem to even use mana for anything. If we were trapped, we’re guaranteed to lose that battle of attrition.” He couldn’t help but sigh due to frustration as he finally posed a question. “That’s basically everything I’ve encountered since I haven’t actually been here too long. There was one thing I feel would be best to consult you regarding. How knowledgeable are you about space and dimensions?”

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

Left to confirm? Lumikki’s thoughts echoed in mind as her head tilting expressed the intrigue from his words. Her demonic presence ebbed as all she wanted was to hear more. But then his adventurer spirit reared its head within his recantation. Tattling on their preference to swing their weapons over that of careful planning. Did they all prefer the simple method? She mulled it over as she considered Brone as well.

Admittedly the mention of the manaless defenses rendered Lumikki somewhat apprehensive, though she wouldn’t show it as Ikazuchi wouldn’t relinquish his. Instead a chill would burn stronger in the air, the kind to nip the nose if you let it, with a sting in the nostrils that sent a shiver with every breath while your body did its best to warm it. All while her polite smile turned to a more menacing grin.

“As luck would have lad, I know of a here and there mage…and to an extent, perhaps even two. Ye could understand the phenomenon of their magic is rather enticing. Why it’s intriguing to any mage who wishes the pleasure of unraveling its machinations. As such, when I spent some time in the blasted Talaz Lagaar…I had found that they too dabbled in the notion, albeit with their abhorrent imitation of magic.” Lumikki leaned back into the seat in a thoughtful posture. The hand that laid on her cheek was the same arm to lay at the rest of the chair. And with eyes blazing from her excitement, Lumikki scanned the recesses of her mind. Pulling to the forefront the experimental calamity of the now long gone island. Whose hubris swallowed them whole.

”Should ye be privy to the influence of the infernal void, its bloody tampering a disgusting variation to the beautiful chaos of Origin or Abyss, then ya know the ethereal touch of its corrosive being tears into our reality. Creating pockets of space in its void crevices. The atrocious thing is repulsive, but telling. Along with the magic to shift realms from me Nordic origin. Safe to say, the gates could take one to wonders never known long as it’s within the ten realms…”As Lumikki spoke, her sisters wandered toward her. The three beings were one and much preferred to be close in proximity. Yet their eyes rarely lifted from the adventurer. Whether curiosity or defensiveness, he could not know.

”That’s all to say in a long winded fashion. This is like neither occurrence mentioned. Rather…” Lumikki broke eye contact to mull it over. Though she was aware, it did not mean she knew. “This isn’t exactly just a warping of reality. We aren’t in reality…but rather an intense delusion. Smothered by his hate and betrayal and forced to drown within the rules of his domain. Least that’s only the guess I could provide. I can sense the cloak around us, but not the way it works..” In truth for as smart as the Demoness was, or the myriad answers she manage to provide. There were complexities here that even knowledge and wisdom couldn’t decipher. Even the notion just said, was simply insight from her very nature.

As a being of the Abyss itself, an idol of chaos. Lumikki eventually understood a core matter of her very nature. All things destructive and erratic sung to her, it vibrated through her being, feeding her very spirit. As if her suffering and former human existence were the means by which she both mastered and perfected her medium and arsenal without even knowing it. Giving her an intimate connection for pain and agony most Demons could never surmise for themselves.

“What have ya Skjaldsveinn? Let’s explore~ I mean to fine the library full of scrolls and see if I could take home the wonders. Perhaps in appeasing me desire, we could find the interment that ends this pitiful man’s nightmare? Gather the good virtue needed for him to pass on, or whatever of the sort.”

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi couldn’t help but notice the pervasive chill stretching its claws deeper into him causing a slight tremor in his arm in response. It reminded him of his short visit to Iceberg years ago, and the same chill constantly invaded his body at the time. It wasn’t quite an instinct for him, but he was familiar with adjusting his condition to the cold. His casual breathing became slightly more deliberate and deeper as he actively engaged his core. He was naturally tolerant towards most conditions with his honed physique, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t try to be more comfortable. As his breathing became deeper, he naturally expelled more condensation with each breath as well. Something he clearly captured was the slight shift in Lumikki’s expression before she spoke in response.

Ikazuchi found his interest piqued as she introduced her experiences and shared her own perspective as a mage. He couldn’t be certain about the exact nature of the magic she referred to, and he hadn’t personally bothered to venture into the depths of Talaz Lagaar despite the rumors that spread across the continent. Knowing that she had been involved in the events that even he had heard of made Ikazuchi even more curious about what may follow.

Her posture shifted back into a more relaxed position as she contemplated the information. Considering what she had said moments ago, he believed that she was organizing the relevant information. ‘I’ll just wait and see.’ There was no sign of impatience, and any earlier sign of discomfort had been regulated by this point as he awaited what he expected to be her narration of the details.

His brows furrowed as she continued to speak following the brief silence. He could vaguely grasp the concepts she spoke of, but ultimately wasn’t a mage himself. His knowledge was based on the principles used to forge equipment and imbue power into the items. With enough time and effort studying something, he would be able to gradually imitate or even replicate magical phenomena. But, that didn’t mean he would be able to discuss the intricacies of spatial disturbances and dimensions.

Considering that, his expression relaxed when she summarized and simplified the explanation for his understanding. He couldn’t help but nod as she expressed her best guess to him. “...That’s more than enough…” Ikazuchi shifted his weight slightly from side to side. His right hand crossed his body, palm facing upward, as his left elbow rested in it. His left palm naturally rested over his mouth and chin. It hadn’t been long, but he still focused on recollecting the information he gained since he arrived. “I honestly can’t understand how all of this works, but the main point is that we just have to play by his rules then, that’s easy enough.

Following that statement from him, she addressed him once again offering to explore. ‘Well, it can’t get any worse.’ Even now, Ikazuchi hadn’t released the mana condensed for footholds as he naturally used it to avoid touching the ground below. He maintained a distance of approximately one to three inches from the ground on average as he was already painfully always of the traps installed. Considering the rules of this place differed from those he lived by outside, it was entirely possible that the earlier trap would have claimed his life.

Despite his wariness towards the exploration, he welcomed the experience and had faith in all three considering the apparent connection they had. “Exploring would be perfect. One way or another we’ll have to get out of here, and staying here doesn’t look like it will help.” Ikazuchi naturally summoned Clarent back into his left hand and Breaker into his right hand as he prepared for what was to come. Having long since swept the room with his perception, he wasn’t interested in remaining here longer now that he was acquainted with Lumikki. He fully intended to lead from the front as they proceeded, considering his role as a warrior, even though the speed displayed by the white woman far exceeded him. It was a matter of pride, principle, and suitability. Once Lumikki made an attempt to leave, he would naturally proceed to the exit and maintain that intended role to the best of his ability.

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

”Sadly. Even I’m locked in the rules all the same, and with the news ye’ve brought, he sounds like something nasty to encounter. But it wouldn’t be any fun if we could just simply swing a sword and be done.” Lumikki slid herself from her seat and sauntered toward the man just as he summoned his blades. With hands tightening on the hilts, it was clear he was squared and ready for the venture. With just enough braveness still coursing inside of him that he insisted on the first steps back into the hall.

Lumikki didn’t challenge his choice, on contrary, the Demoness found it charming. A tendency of man that was particularly emboldened within warriors, it reminded her there was honor to still be had in those outside her homeland’s borders. A very intentional and protective stance to be taken despite knowing where she landed beside him in strength and so Lumi made note to support him in kind while he acted as her vanguard. The mage slid into the demeanor like a costume in a play, immersing herself in the role as a delicate spell caster. Her voice now softening and her movement more graceful as she followed the warrior back into the potential chaos. The unknown notion of what’s to come was delectable on her tongue, but she held back from bleeding into the disaster before them.

”Sisters, let us see who finds the relic first…or the library if Sága grants me passage~” As if beckoned, Hlaðguðr and Svanvartr came to life on cue, passing just by the swift phantoms. They sprinted for the avenues the newly met pair wouldn’t take, with the task of simply covering more ground while Lumi and Skjaldsveinn took it much slower. They had to be more mindful of traps in a sense.

Lumikki could tell a lot from her insight, peering into a person as a whole. Ikazuchi wasn’t anything different, but yet he was. There was something within him she could not grasp, like the shine reflected off some surface of an item discarded on the ground. There was semblance of understanding, buried under the mundane nature of an adventurer. The question was, how could she peel back such things without being boringly obvious. ”Yer plight explains itself to a degree, but forgive me, its not often a warrior investigates spirits. What chasm did ya fall into, to be haunted by such a grim fascination?” Withdrawn in tone, she tempered her interest just enough to seem nonchalant. Her expression, if he could see it with his position ahead, would show nothing of her excitement as well. Instead, her voice was soft as a hum in a lullaby.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi found his rhythm during his interactions with Lumikki. Outside of the chill that seemed to follow the trio, there was a unique comfort that came from a reliable companion. Her statement regarding how to resolve their current predicament was something that resonated within him and kindled his competitive spirit. ‘If one sword doesn’t work… maybe two?’ He couldn’t bring himself to speak those words, but he found himself considering how he could use his swords to break the very rules they already established and accepted to bind them.

Through the lingering darkness, Ikazuchi scanned the dreary and lifeless walls. The mix of desolation and majesty lingering after many years was a testament to the rich history of Sin. It wasn’t something Ikazuchi had ever invested himself in researching, but a spark of curiosity was gradually developing. The extent of his current knowledge really only included the common knowledge, primarily the unique fact that their current emperor had lived for many years and was highly regarded.

‘...huh.’ A different chill crawled down his spine as he noticed a shift in tone from Lumikki who followed along. The shifting demeanor wasn’t as apparent to him as it may be to those she spent many long hours with, but he had an advantage most did not that allowed him to actively capture more of the subtle changes in his perception. It was only after the two sisters shot forward into the many twisting paths that Ikazuchi couldn’t hold himself back. “They’re fast…” It was only a passing remark, but his appreciation for their capabilities was something he didn’t feel the need to restrain.

Lost more in his domain-like perception, his actual gaze didn’t scan all sides of the path as much as one may expect. It was something that could even seem uncharacteristic to a more experienced warrior or mage. A lack of awareness could be described as a fatal flaw, yet each one of his actions was made in an extremely careful manner. Lumikki’s inquiry did little to affect his actions, but his mind became more active as he spoke the first thoughts that came to mind.

It’s a bit of a long story, so I hope you don’t mind listening.” His voice was low, but in the silent halls it carried clearly to her. He paused for just a moment, a final unspoken offer to refuse before sharing. “To start, I will need to tell you a bit about myself… As you can see, I’m a swordsman. I’ve dedicated most of my life to the skill, something that was passed down to me from my father.” His expression relaxed as he recalled those days during his childhood dedicated to martial arts training with his father. No attempt was made to control the gentle smile that naturally spread. “I like to think I’ve been fairly successful with that pursuit, but life doesn’t always work out, y’know?” Out of habit, Ikazuchi’s head tilted towards the demoness as if to emphasize that final question. His gentle expression shifted to a stern one as he evaluated his past self.

I won’t go into every experience I’ve had, but I spent a fairly long time in Seven frequenting the arena there.” He couldn’t help but shake his head slightly. “It felt like there was a wall at the time, one that I wouldn’t be able to cross. It was… frustrating… I took every chance I could to hone my skills; constant training and fighting was my routine.” By now, his mood had returned to the original calm as he narrated his tale. “I had quite a bit of success and even walked away with a few prizes from wagers that took place.” At this point, his sword spirit rotated around him as if to bring attention to itself. “And that’s where I obtained the technique to make this.

No direct motion or indication was given, but it was clear that he was addressing the spirit from its abnormal movement. “It’s hard to offer a comparison, but to me and my sword it became a new foundation to build on. It wasn’t long after it was formed that I had a duel with someone named Drakkon and won…” His tone shifted a slight level higher as he was filled with more enthusiasm recalling the event. “And just like that, as if the bottleneck never existed, I achieved a whole new level with its support.” He couldn’t help but chuckle at the almost unbelievable correlation. “Hard to believe, right? Still, even now, it’s like there’s this… whisper… urging me to keep going… like this is just the beginning.” With a slight sigh, he was finally bringing his short story to a close.

This is something like a shot in the dark, but that technique I mentioned was incomplete. I’ve been exploring and researching to try and recreate it for the sake of that fundamental change that simply strengthening my body can’t bring.” For the first time in a long time, Ikazuchi spoke without any kind of filter. There wasn’t any particular reason why he did so. Maybe, if nothing else, there was a sense of comfort interacting with someone he could view as his equal in a friendly manner. Without any reason to hide the information, he let it flow naturally. ‘I wonder if that satisfied her curiosity?’ This was his final thought as he waited for her to respond while continuing forward carefully.

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

”Aye they are,” Lumikki’s remarked, his sudden utterance had caught her interest and fanned her pride. ”As any bird worth their feathers should be.” The upbeat cadence of her words did not waver beyond the soft and delicate scope that she drew out for herself. Rather it played into her girlish charm as she stalked the halls right behind him. Her active eyes were constantly scanning and preening the walls for any chance of hidden wonder. A passage perhaps for the marvelous library that her mind was building up to be particularly grand, that is, if it really was worthy of this last Emperor.

The corners of Lumikki’s lips pulled back as she felt the ebb and flow of her excitement crash repeatedly within her like the waves on a shore. And with her newly made acquaintance, she was assured a good time throughout her search now. A sentiment that proved correct the moment Ikazuchi began to recant his personal tale, the experiences a of a sword man climbing the pits one would regard as the arena in Seven. The place that both her beloved and Angel of Dawn had called their home. Clearing the battles along with the highs and lows into their very souls as warriors. Lumikki had to stop herself from sucking her teeth to hear of another, but it wasn’t from disrespect as she hailed from a land of warriors herself. It was just the sheer annoyance that all the people she gets to know have a tendency of converging in the same places. Something she was growing to find rather boring, but the floating sword of his kept her waning interests from ever looking away.

With a small chuckle, Lumikki stepped forward. Matching his stride so seamlessly that when she took the place beside him, it was as if she slid like an apparition along the floor; silent and gracefully. ”Funny hearing that name leave yer lips,” Lumikki began. With her left arm tucked by her side and the other reaching over in a gesture akin to pulling a blade from its sheath; from the clenched hand of the frost mage, Lumikki began to work her magic. Her left hand was now gripping the hilt of a sword the crept into existence with the emerging black ice. The act hardly took thirty seconds to produce a weapon, that if one looked clearly, perfectly replicated the floating sword Ikazuchi owed his success to. ”In me studies, I carelessly forget how yer lot fine tunes techniques like a mage does their spells. A sentiment I need to grow out of if I’m to be less arrogant in me workings….still, yer story ended on a note I haven’t heard before. Yet, I’m still curious as to where ya owe yer power from.” Lumikki held the blade just inches from her face to inspect her work. Though she was great at shaping ice masterfully to her will, the notion of complacency vexed her if it meant dulling her skills over time.

”Oh but that whisper lad….that feeling…that hunger…..One could say its me life force. The call and yearning both burn and vex me so, to the point I wonder if it’ll be all I know….—still, when all is said an done, I think it’s worth it. To satiate the hunger of course. And it’s this hunger I see that dragged ye here…hmmm yes, yes….would make a lot of sense. I think Ikazuchi, I’ll grow quite fond of ye. Least that is, if ya keep chasing this whisper of yers.” As Lumikki spoke, her tone quite lofty as she inspected the blade in unison of speaking her thoughts out loud. Her remark barely had thought, so much as it was her raw sentiments. Of course, she always had the tendency to find things she enjoyed in another and by doing so, unknowingly knotted said person with aspects of her own. It was the notion of seeing yourself in others that kept reminding and reassigning their value even when her nature would muse otherwise. And perhaps, it was just a small hunger among many she enjoyed to quench as she got along.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi was vaguely aware of the fact that Lumikki knew Drakkon, so he didn’t consider it surprising when she responded to the name. Rather, he intentionally included the name as he spoke for the sake of sharing something that was a common point between them in the tangled web of fate. Considering the speed of the sisters who separated from them moments ago, he wasn’t surprised by the fact that she could easily match his pace. Even after considering her strength and reputation, the clear inferiority on his part left him nursing his wounded pride internally. Regardless of the person or the circumstances, Ikazuchi couldn’t hold back his competitive nature and confidence that was ingrained in his bones. Of course, he wasn’t shallow enough to display even the slightest hint of that frustration outwardly.

He found himself intrigued as he observed her act of forming a sword of her own which matched his own sword spirit. ‘Interesting…’ The control and skill displayed by replicating his spirit, even if only in form, was something that he couldn’t relate to. What could take hours or days for him was formed in a matter of seconds by her. ‘...but not quite right, either.’ All of the slight changes and movements of mana had been captured by his senses, so he knew that the unique mana flow and cycle differed.

Ikazuchi calmly listened as she spoke of his motivation and desires; ultimately expressing a positive outlook on their future interactions. ‘Never would have thought that I could be so friendly with someone from Paradise Dawn…’ It hadn’t been long since his Guild Master requested that he set aside those frustrations, and it was only after experiencing her lack of connection to the pain perpetrator that Ikazuchi felt the knot in his heart release. He could hold onto his dislike for individuals, but the guild and its leader were now separated from the issue. At least, that was his new perspective.

Considering the fact that they were like-minded regarding their pursuits, Ikazuchi had a similar positive outlook on their future interactions. “Seems like we’ll be getting along for a long time then.” Although indirect, he couldn’t help but confirm a similar sentiment as he spoke.

On a whim, Ikazuchi willed his sword spirit to display its unique flow more accurately for inspection at this point. “There’s a technique to it. Your control over mana far exceeds my own, but the important part is the cycle…” Ikazuchi couldn’t help but pause as he realized the irony of a serious attempt to teach her something regarding magic. “...At least, that’s the key point of the technique I used. After establishing the form, cycle, and connection; at that point it’s possible to imbue a strong will into the spirit establishing its form and a connection.” He gave his best attempt to summarize the details of the technique as he was too far in to abandon his explanation. ‘Will that even make sense?’

It was a passing explanation for her as she inspected her own sword of ice, so it could easily be disregarded. If nothing else, he felt as though this would be enough to satisfy a part of her curiosity. “Sometime after we’re out of here, I will bring you the technique to research. I can’t say it’s suitable for everyone, but it has some interesting concepts.” He didn’t bother to add that this would only ever occur after he obtained the later stages of the technique for himself and managed to make progress. Whether it be to protect his own advantage, or to ensure that there is a path forward; Ikazuchi wouldn’t rush to pass along such incomplete information.

His sword spirit would have naturally returned to its semi-dormant state by this point, simply hovering along in his traditional blind spot, as if intending to protect him from any harm. It couldn’t be forgotten that they were still locked away in a trap filled maze. The desolation of the halls was only ever interrupted by distant ominous echoes. A constant reminder that they weren’t ever alone in this palace.

‘What’s that?’ His foot was firmly rooted to the floor, his momentum halted as his gaze was fixed on an unassuming portion of the wall to the side. His perception had pierced directly into the space revealing many books, scrolls, and other miscellaneous items. There wasn’t the slightest hint of magic contained within the wall, something done to avoid the prying eyes of perceptive and curious mages. Instead, it was engineered to open based on unique mechanisms.

...give me a moment.” Doubt laced his tone as he stepped closer to the wall. His eyes traced the small pathways that make up the internal structure of the wall. The countless paths and gaps were reflected in his mind as his eyes tracked his progress. While he wasn’t a trap expert, he could at least analyze and decipher the structure based on his forging experience. The longer he looked, the more intense his desire was to simply cut through the wall itself. Rather, that’s exactly what he would have done if he wasn’t certain that it would be pointless.

Ikazuchi stood there, motionlessly, for two minutes as he intently observed both the internal and external structure. As his suspicions grew, he stepped closer to the wall. His efforts highlighted a specific part of the wall which had a pathway that ran just below the surface. “It may not make sense how I know this, but there’s something behind this wall…” He paused both his words and his hand as his index finger rested against the wall, just beneath a tiny hole that would only be large enough for a fine hair to enter. “I don’t think it’s a library, but its value may exceed one.” Ikazuchi turned to look at the Demoness as he spoke. “It’s a small space, but there are several shelves filled with books and scrolls. There are other items too, but I can’t tell exactly what they’re for.” His finger tapped the wall at this point. “I think there may be a way to open it, but it will require you to use your magic to interact with this…” His gaze shifted back to the wall, unsure if that would be the most accurate description for it.

The small mechanical components spread throughout the wall made it both a door and lock that seemed to require a specific method to open. What he found was merely a keyhole of sorts, one that was almost imperceptible to the naked eye, thanks to his domain-based perception. “There’s a small gap here that seems to be for a key to enter, but…” Ikazuchi recalled how skillful the Demoness was with her ice manipulation. “...that’s not the only thing that can, right?

He naturally moved to the side to give her more space for inspection. “If you were to expand your ice through here, I think you could use your magic in place of whatever key it needs. What do you think?” Ikazuchi had a lot of faith in Lumikki’s prowess and ability to resolve the issue at this moment. Her previous display left a deep impression on him, and he wasn’t willing to underestimate her. In a way, he had a certain level of trust in her originating from her connection to his Guild Master from before they ever met. Now, he unintentionally burdened her with expectations as he hoped to find something that may help them resolve this issue within this hidden archive.

Lumikki

Lumikki of Iceberg

"Two sisters, two shadows, black and white in one."

Dispute the muted qualms of the adventurer beside her, Lumi didn’t bark as his assertion to a “cycle”. Rather, it opened her up to a stream of thoughts as she looked over to his demonstration. The promise to know more in future’s time was also exciting, cementing her soon-to-be, long woven interest in him and his antics.

”Frost and dark,” Lumikki began, with eyes peeling away from her makeshift imitation to gleam at the original and all its properties. Eventually her gaze would fall onto his own, and though she was quite shorter, the connection held ever-tightly. ”Frost and dark are two elements known for their sense of stillness. Ye’d think that’d make them easy to master, but rather, it leads to its own challenges. The living have a tendency for motion and chaos, we do not enjoy reaping things from stillness nor stagnation. Yet, there are great lessons to be had in them still. Like rest, or introspection, or even the important lesson of pacing and doing things with the time it needs. So this mention,” Lumikki crumbled her replica, but not enough to entirely shatter it. Instead, it would be reforged over and over with something that seemed more akin to living shadows. Slowly but surely, though rather crudely like someone still trying to figure something out. The shadows capture the gist of his cycle but lacked all the proper intricacies. It was the first step to understanding however, and so it was just practice as oppose to a proper show. If Lumikki kept by him, she had strong hopes to learn more. ”So I have high expectations for the knowledge ye wish to share.” A smirk crept along her lips as she cared not to hide her interest. Rather, she was doubling down on his impulsive promise. Assuring that one day, he’d keep it.

”—Hmmm?” Ikazuchi jerked, his sudden stop was now taking the Demoness by surprise. Her eye-sight wasn’t matched by any other, but the limitation of what can be seen was still her hinderance. There was no way to tell there was a room they could access from here on the other side of this wall-like door, but Lumikki’s intrigued grew as the adventure sleuthed about.

Lumikki chucked at his assumption and took it all as flattery. The notion she held that she could somehow break the seal was both entertaining and true. Lumikki stepped toward the wall, feeling out the indent that he noted with her thumb. She ran her finger over the hole a few times while thinking over his explanation. ”Yer like Brone Heavyaxe, aren’t chu?” She let that statement linger for a bit as fed her magic slowly into the lock. She could vaguely feel out its shape, its twists and turns were convoluted but purposeful. Eventually her cold-darkness funneled to the other side, mixing with the stagnant and dry air, fundamentally proving his claim to be right. Lumikki let out another chuckle, before pulling back and looking him over quickly. ”Ye sense what’s around and about like he does. No wonder.” Her glowing eyes turned back over to the wall while both her hands slid along the surface.

Lumikki’s talon-like nails began to press into the wood, she held her hands in place while working out the shapes of her magic. Feeding the dark was easy, even a child could muster that. It was figuring out exactly what the lock required that proved a struggle. Like solving a puzzle hidden in a box with no glances or hints. Eventually, Lumikki figured out its mechanisms, her magic was now coiling with the hatches and pushing the particular pins. And honestly, this was the most fun she’s had since entering the grounds. Now she wondered, what else must she could have missed. ”Aaaaaah, tricky, tricky…” Lumikki purred, the giddiness was brimming in her tone, and she’d step back once again.

”Bold of ye to think I could do it,” she boasted, ”well ye’d be right.” The Demoness took a step back, and in one swift gesture, she’d lean over with one arm propping on her hip as if looking over yonder. With a snap of her fingers, the metallic latched from within could be heard, turning and snapping in place before the wall loosened and broke the clean seams. Sliding slightly ajar as it dipped within the hidden archives. Lumikki’s glowing gaze whipped back to the man, her head beckoning him to enter. She’d take the honors all for herself if it were not for his innate desire to maintain a frontline. And so in her cheeky way, she’d help him fulfill his role with no quarrels.

It took some time for the stale air to clear out but the chill that now lingered felt almost refreshing. Ikazuchi was right in there being books and scrolls, but what were on those pages was yet to be discovered. In the center of the room, there was a small desk. Notes were strewn haphazardly atop its surface, as if the previous owner was in a rush. Lumikki skimmed the pages, her understanding of Sinese was not yet honed but it was capable. And she could gleam the contents of the pages after a few minutes. The Demoness sat crossed legged atop the desk, reading out loud lowly in a murmur. Every once and a while she'd Look up in random directions, her stare looking miles away. Whether or not Ikazuchi could figure out why, there was reason for it. Her swans were still scanning the grounds out there for them, and it was becoming more frequent that they would get some unwelcomed run-ins. In those times, Lumikki was flickering between their sight and her own.

"It was becoming obvious, that the late emperor was growing rather paranoid," she began to recant the reports to Ikazuchi, should he care to hear it. Dropping the pages back onto the desk as she slid off and wandered towards the shelves. From which, her fingers ran along the spines until she found a title worth pulling the dusted book out for. "His delusion were becoming more prevalent, but his close advisers were deeply worried. They schemed to bring a monk who could perhaps exorcise the evil spirits, but that was the last thing said. I doubt things went as planed." Her voice was monotone, with a a tinged of mockery. It was apparent just how foolish she found the bunch, yet she was not surprised.

Lumikki flipped the pages, revealing the profuse notes of botany and medicine. Etched along the hand drawn pictures of flowers and thick roots, were small folk stories to explain them by. Lumikki read them hungrily, enjoying the payment for all her troubles. Though she used magic to heal, the knowledge did not hurt, nor did the new found understanding to the flora within Sin.

"Their fates woven tightly, says the Norns to the raven and swans."
