Erebus

No less than an hour after arriving to the hidden city in the woodlands, the rogue would march towards his mission. A paper already gripped within his fingertips. As it would seem, a wealthy shop keeper sought a bit of help. Not one to turn away a hefty bag of coin, the green-haired journeyman made his first effort out here a progressive one. A wealthy land owner, pompous and ill-informed of his own business in the world, has an eye for collecting in Orchidia, his eyes lay setting his sights on a derelict building site dwelling within the forested town. His reason being, he wanted to sell drugs. Not hard street drugs Erebus vouched hope towards, but prescriptions in general could be abused too. In the end the idea to see this building to it's construction is halted for the moment, as creatures have taken residence there.

What's worse? They were giant rats, frenzied and just as psychotic as their smaller cousins. Though the smaller counterparts lack as much stench and disgusting qualities. They invaded the area through the pipes which travel under the town, a massive sewage system spanning the entire zone. So the creatures not doubt will need to be hunted.

The rats have angered the humans, and reportedly attacked and mutilated a woman hiking through the area only days ago. The movement is no doubt strange, and a leader could emerge in the the tunnels below. So Erebus awaited his assigned"help" patiently, before he could get down to work officially, he simply sat at a bench near the spot he planned to enter the sewers and end the situation officially. '

Juni didn't care what the man wanted that old warehouse for, she just wanted to get paid. Taking the information from him she headed towards her destination. She didn't care for vermin so this would be some nice target practice for the new magic she acquired. Juni had been informed that she wouldn't be working alone, so she was on the lookout for anyone nearby once she made it to the location written on the paper given to her. She could have probably done this job alone but it would get done quicker with another, upon reaching her destination her ruby orbs landed on a green-haired male sitting not too far away on a bench.

Juni assumed that this was the man she would be working with and keeping her distance waved to him. If he was in fact the person she was supposed to be meeting and not some random man she would find out once or if he came to her. With the incident that happened around here, no one would dare come towards this place, no common folk anyway. They weren't that stupid. These rats were something that could only really be handled by a mage, and since only one person wanted this shitty warehouse Juni was almost certain this green-haired male was her man.

Erebus

Erebus watched as another woman approached his field of vision. Strangely, he kept getting these high risk jobs alongside female mages... Perhaps females made better mages naturally, if that were the case he had to respect it. However, Erebus wasn't a mage at all, and hopefully she could accept that. Unlike his last mission, his hood was down for this one, the warmer temperatures out here qualified a reason to be less susceptible to hunters. Something Erebus would be thankful for, besides, if Juni was the only mage out here, she'd be the only one genuinely learning his face, and it's not to say she'd ever remember it past tonight.

"Juni Anastos I take it, if so hello... Our humble quest-giver told me to wait for you when I reached the site." Erebus started up, standing and stretching his sides, before pulling the cowl at his neck on over his head. "I traveled all the way from Magnolia just to get here. So I only beg that you don't disappoint me. Now then, if we're done with that, let's butcher these things." The rogue stated short and firm, his statements and dialogue as always stung with the same unbothered pressure, but his calm demeanor and voice eased the words. Almost like the snake who seduced Eve and flung her from Eden, Erebus was a smooth talker, thankfully... He was at least morally Good in his heart, though-- he did have a knack for looking out for himself first always. Irregardless, he seemed to operate more closely to a vigilante than a villain or some poser heroic adventurer anyways. Outlaw... The best term for his type.

"I suppose it's time to crawl the sewers?"

Something about hearing her whole name aloud made her shudder. She didn't like that, hell she hardly heard her own name nowadays anyway and having it said she really didn't like it. A small but smile appeared on her face as the corners of her lips tugged themselves into a more pleasant position. She at least knew now that this was the man she was here to see but to confirm as he did she took a quick peek at the paper she was given that had the information she needed. And you are Erebus, I'm going to assume. The name sent a pang in her chest, she knew an Erebus but he didn't look anything like the man she knew. Then again she didn't look like the same person from so long ago either. It was a big world so this man could just be someone different, and with that to soothe her she bounced right back

Sorry to have kept you waiting, once I heard what we would be doing I had to make a wardrobe change. It was true, she wasn't about to be down in a sewer in her nice clothes. She was dressed down in black with rubber boots that came up to her thighs and hugged them just the same to keep out any disgusting sewage. Covering her top half was a sort of black rain slicker that came with a hood. Yes, she was dressed for the occasion because it was better to be prepared for what was ahead. She would ignore his little comment about disappointment and would only nod as she allowed him to lead the way. Her magic was much more suited for long-range anyway so when they did enter she kept a bit of a distance from him in order to take care of any pest ahead before they could get close enough to the two of them. She was unsure why they were even starting in the sewers when their jobs were to kill any rats in the warehouse and close up the entrance to the sewers, but she would assume that he wanted to " cut the head from the beast " so to speak. Whatever it was she wasn't about to question him as she let him lead the way. She got her fingers already in a position to let loose a bullet as they entered the sewers.

Erebus

Juni swapped her clothing whereas Erebus, kind of just walked off and waited by the entrance. The rocky overhead down in the ditch was short and narrow, but waters streamed from it naturally, to get through, the two would be stepping through murky puddles and squatting to avoid the short ceiling, til they came out on the other side of course. Erebus placed hands on the metal barring the entrance and ripped it from it's place propping it against the circular wall inside. When Juni was near, he started inside first, leading casually as the higher ranking adventurer. After about ten feet, the darkness would cover him making him but a shroud ahead to the girl behind. However, a blink or two later and the rogue would be invisible, leading purely by vocal echo, to stir her towards the building as a navigator. The two would enter the main tunneks, and the roofing would be quite a bit higher here, with enough space to stretch and swing weapons casually.

"In the case you die, I get to collect both of our rewards, don't let this discourage you though I actually don't want you to die. I think we stand a better chance leveling these rats if I tap them in the dark."

"Follow my voice,"

"Right..."

"Left.."

"Stop."

Where the girl walked she would casually stride upon large dead, dog-sized, rat creatures. Blood caking their lips where Erebus had silently knocked their necks off their spines. However, the sound of feet stampeding through water echoed, and it became instantly noticeable that the rats had picked up on the intruders, it could be possible their senses were heightened and engineered, Erebus thought nonchalantly. However, it could also mean worse problems lie ahead.

Juni was honestly glad she changed clothes. The smell of the sewers, the puddles, the overall moist and dank environment was almost too much for her to take. Thankfully jewels were a good motivation as any to suck it up and do her job as she followed Erebus making sure to follow him as closely as possible. The sewers were dim which made keeping up with Erebus harder than she thought, which was made impossible once she realized he had disappeared altogether. Before she could say anything or even think about calling out to him, she heard his voice. She was partly glad he was taking lead as she walked by headless rats, bodies still twitching as they laid dead, her eyes catching a glimpse of them. She could tell that this was his doing even if she hadn't caught him doing it. His directions would cause her to stop right in front of a freshly killed rat, her foot hovering over its body before moving back into place. With all these dead rats, and all this noise she was certain that it would only attract more rats. Putting her hands out and her fingers pointing forward she would carefully move a bit towards the wall next to her in order to gain more vision. The walls of the sewers were thankfully lit up with some sort of light orb, probably to help whoever had to come down here to see. For a moment after Erebus had spoken his last word there was silence. Only the dripping of water could be heard until a disturbance, like a thousand chittering sounds filled the space, bouncing off the enclosed walls.
It all seemed to come from one direction and as the sound got closer she knew exactly what was going on.  “ Ah shit. “

Those rats were coming, their territory had been disturbed and they might have been hungry. Juni didn’t know why the whole damn horde had come out to play but she wasn’t about to be overrun by a bunch of god damn, bottom-feeding, walking on four paws, probably mutated to hell, rats. She heard about what they did to that poor girl, and she wasn’t about to be food. Pointing her finger in the direction of the sound she let loose a series of bullets, each stronger with each shot she let off, each able to rip through a few rats more than the last, and every single one of the silent, leaving only high pitch cries of rats singing their last song. She didn’t know how many she went through but she was counting on Erebus to start picking up the slack as she moved forward, dark bullets flying from each of her fingers out of both of her hands in perfect harmony one after another.  She had to admit this was much more fun than playing a healer to people who probably didn’t even deserve her help. Waking up in a new body with new magic she realized as she blew off the head of a rat that got too close that she could easily keep killing for money, it would probably get her far more in her pocket than doing anything else. “ God these things are disgusting, how did they even get this way...Wait don’t answer that. “
She was going through these rats as a mouse goes through cheese. Thinning out their ranks and their numbers with her bullets she could feel her heart pounding in her chest and hear that same heart in her head. Was she..Having fun? Was this fun for her? She wasn’t sure but she wasn’t stopping either, she wasn’t even paying attention to the mana she was burning through and she didn’t care either.

“ How did they let this sewer get this bad? “ The question was mostly to herself but it was loud enough for Erebus to hear if he cared to respond. She could only shoot so many of them down, some rats, of course, getting past her gunfire and getting close enough for her to be able to kick some of them away but some of them managed to get on her feet and start climbing up her leg. To say that she was disgusted was an understatement. Every nerve in her body lit itself on fire and her mind went blank. What she felt as a shudder was, in fact, her shaking profusely and violently. She wanted to scream as she felt them crawling past her thighs. She could feel something bite her and that is what set her off. she quickly fingered each rat on her body and blew their brains out, her face twitching as the few rats that did manage to make it on to her fell to the ground at her feet.

“ I feel. So violated. “ She mumbled under her breath trying to hold back tears. Even after they were dead she could still feel their dirty grimy little claws scratching up her body and that was it. Mixed with the smell and now the blood on her she had enough or at least her body did as she threw up into the water over the ledge that she stood on. Why did these things have to touch her? She was beyond talking at this point and the burning white light in her eyes that now presented themselves and the pure white wings that unfolded from her back showed very clearly that she was done with these rat bastards. She had never known the powers that being a Nephilim had, at least not all of them as she let the fear fall from her like a dark cloud. The rats being so far beneath her all chittered even louder but this time they were no longer advancing, they were in a panic and running back. This was good because she wanted to be led to the head of this infestation. And so she followed them, with a calm fury in her eyes.

Erebus

Her words were felt in the mind of the rogue, for one he honestly was suited for critical singular damage and was not aware if his colleague was adjusted to hoard combat. "This might get messy." He responded almost with a tone of satire. "Alright - go time."

Bullets zipped by and Erebus quickly found himself rolling out the firing line. He'd retain his invisible form and let loose his full strength as he barreled through troves of vermin like a torpedo, sending them in all sorts of directions as he bounced from one side of the room to the next eliminating them in a rapid-fire mechanic that kept any further rats from persisting behind his lines to attack Juni.

"It's Fiore, rats with magic aren't anything new Juni. Look at it like a metaphor for our regular jobs." He pardoned to compare the scum of the continent to the monsters they were fighting. Not a completely illogical comparison if you factored in all the criminally syndicate organizations and individuals in the magical country. Erebus didn't consider himself amongst those, but he certainly knew he was capable of some borderline fuck-shit and many had called him the very thing, a street rat, if they only knew who would come out of that rat, from the streets in Oak Town. Perhaps then, they would have respected his struggle. Appreciated or not he liberated that town from a Lich and was a hero there now. So none of his hardship would bother his future.

"Not entirely sure," He spoke with honesty. "This is Sentinel Syndicate Territory to my knowledge, so I don't exactly see them running down here to do it. They'd rather traffic women or something. I don't know, but those are some rumors?" His tone wasn't loud or impeded by hurry, matter of fact. Erebus sounded as though the entire attack was well within their commodity for success. Though-- indeed, he was under some stress.

The stench in the room coupled with the sweat beading at his temples elevated his mood from cautious to frustrated. When he heard her back hit the pavement, his whole objective dropped to rush in and aide his ally. Erebus seemed to reappear standing over her body, with a vicious kick reminiscent of a soccer player, Erebus brought it in with vigor and skill. His acrobatic flare and precision with hitting the creatures in their vitals was evident that he was highly skilled compared to others his age. The rat creeping up on them was driven to the opposite end wall by this one shot, amidst cracks and intense bone structural damage. The creature stayed glued four feet over the ground from he sheer impact.

"At least they weren't Goblins." Erebus jested to lighten her trauma, although his humor was satirical. Goblins were far more disgusting creatures simply because of their murderous and perverse living style. After all, they were both infamous for being rapist and cannibals and the two quest-takers' truly were lucky she didn't get knocked down, in the dark, by one of those. A whole pack were known quick to tie adventurers down and desecrate whatever memory of that person one would've had.

Irregardless, that wasn't the case for tonight. Erebus extended his reach out to her. As she mumbled, he watched the room illuminate starting with the girls eyes, and then his glance extended as mighty ethereal wings spanned too. "Oh my..." Erebus said, finally showing a hint of surprise, or fear, as Erebus had truly never encountered angelic creatures before. He'd smited the Lich; but never seen something that looked like this.. "Angels... Guess they are real." With her new holy atmosphere, Erebus merely hung back and merged with the shadows, guarding her from the rear. Locked in thought, as far as explaining went. To him, this was all the proof of alien planets he needed, and of higher entities.

Erebus wandered if he might be a human forever, or... Was he special too?

At this point, Juni wasn't really paying attention to Erebus. She wanted to be done with this little job as soon as she possibly could and that meant she was fully barreling down the sewers after those rats. She let them run just ahead of her so she could follow them, her wings flapping behind her to give her that extra push forward. Her mind was zeroed in on one task, pushing all other thought behind as something to think about after said task was complete. The rats with their numbers thinned down to more than half began to move upwards. They squeezed into tiny holes and soon she found herself stopping as the last of the rats vanished from her sight.

"I think they are moving up...Up into the warehouse. Good. At least now when we kill that rat bastard it won't be in fucking piss and shit water.."

Since she had been going forward the whole entire time of them being in the sewer, it was a horrible scene when she turned around and saw a bunch of dead rats but she didn't care as she moved forward. " Where are you Erebus? How come you keep vanishing? " It was a simple question, one to pass the time as they walked out of the sewer and up into the warehouse. When the two did get to the warehouse Juni wasted no time in searching it. She could hear the rats scattering around until out of the corner of her eye she saw the biggest rat she ever did see. It was the size of a large dog, maybe two large dogs.

" Oh, so you came out. Good, make it easier to kill you, just like I killed your disgusting kin. "

This last statement set off the " rat king " and it charged at her. Like a stupid animal, it charged at her. It was almost too easy. She quickly put a bullet right through its skull with her strongest spell. She watched as the skull head of the rat exploded and heard every smaller rat go silent. For all that it was easy. Now all they had to do was find where they kept coming from, seal it up, and take the goods back to the man who sent them on this little mission.

" I'm not giving that sleazeball anything.."

Taking whatever she could find for herself, she claimed it as compensation for her " trauma ". She would wait for Erebus before leaving with him in order to get their money for a job well done. She let down her Nephilim form and shut off her fear before leaving the building.

Erebus

From here, Erebus was pretty eased in and he was cooling off, allowing the girl lead, he could see well ahead of her because of the light she casted off her form. The smell on their bodies was repulsive but a job in hot pursuit was a warm and happy feeling to the rogue. Often, he could never find partners as hell-bent on winning as he. Juni had a fire, and the Unavoidable One admired that in her. He smiled, though, the invisible mask of mana around his person would show this unto no one.

Erebus watched as the rats slung through holes which could fit decent mass, but appeared to climb steep under jagged rock. This gave the impression that despite their bodies potentially getting in, it would be hours before they could track through it. Luckily, right above them, the warehouse. Juni was apparently following the same thought as she spoke, so he offered her response to quell the boredom that a long walk back would provide.

"Right, no more piss. No more shit, just a tiny bit more slaughter and we get to walk out with some diamonds in our coin purse." His voice emitted very close to her, if she were intelligent, she would know he was right beside her, he just had meshed so well into the environment a first glance would completely his silhouette beside her.

"It makes things simpler for me, since I don't understand the complexities of pushing mana outside my body, I hone my physical strength, and supplement it with some rudimentary stealth techniques. It was a maturing moment for me when I decided to start helping people with my talents, as limited as they might be, they're pretty useful." Erebus allowed his skin to phase up and beside her, he was back in his form. With his green hair, falling off to the side out of his face.

Above them, the warehouse was nearly empty, though, Erebus chopped through a few rats as they looked around. Ahead, a fat and noticeably more bulky rodent growled. The Angel to his side, was clearly in a heated state after being 'violated' so Erebus kept his face blank as he watched her hand lift, to blow it's head off, and cover their clothes in scarlet sticky guts. "How very kind of you to show this beast some mercy," He joked.

Upon hearing and walking a s she looted, he nodded. Glad that he wasn't the only 'thief' around these parts. "Yeah fuck that guy, his offer wasn't worth the work. I'll be taking some things too. Hopefully next time I see you, we get to know a little more about ourselves." Erebus said, keeping things mute from there as they walked on to turn their quest in and ripple the area with the new 'reputation' they were garnering.
