Masami

喜多正美

Doubting the cues of the homunculus, Masami wearingly follows the creature, yet in haste he looks in different directions, as if being cautious not for himself, but for the creature. They enter the catacombs as a duo and when the boy noticed the homunculus' odd response to those in authority, he started to halt the creature from speaking any further, or speaking at all, so Masami brought the creature to directions where there are less priests, and even lesser people, thinking that it's better to keep the creature away from any sort of human interaction. Being in such a state is a danger to Masami's social camouflage and, if only he was allowed to take the job without the homunculus' assistance, then he would've done so long ago. Now that their directions varied, both Masami and his companion found themselves in a rather quiet hallway. There was a tingling noise from afar, and there was no doubt that it was the sound of fellows either trying to escape or to enter an inaccessible place. With both curiosity and eeriness, the duo approaches the source of the noise, witnessing two priests in a failed guise.

The duo were tasked to look for these cultists, but they did not expect that they'd truly find cultists inside a true cathedral. With ease, the cultists were defeated with Abbadon's stead—the homunculus was designed to be stronger than humans. Masami was glad that it wasn't his enemy, otherwise humans might have a hard time getting rid of potential catastrophe. The boy found no interest watching the homunculus lose the human morals it earned along the way, the cultists having pain inflicted upon them. Not that Masami trying to appear unbothered—in fact, he was not bothered the slightest, yet it did not seem like it was a wrong. It was only now that Masami had realized the homunculus' ability to understand the human language. If only Masami knew in the first place, then he would've attempted to speak to it—however, it seems like the homunculus' capabilities still won't make it more human that it wishes to.

The boy offered that he'd use his magic to make the cultists speak, but Abbadon was both foolish and wise to stop Masami from doing so, but the boy worried that Abbadon would have wasted all his power unto targets that would not matter. At the same time, when Masami had no other choice but to abide by his companion's will, he realized that the spell he had learned would have been most effective for later on use. Waiting for Abbadon to finish satisfying himself, Masami looks around the decorated hallways of the cathedral. He soon understood that he feels at ease despite being in such a foreign location—Lucillus was a Seraphim, yet he was only a fragment of the original being. For the angel's soul to be within the human boy's should have been enough to twist their preferences. If only Masami was never a boy of magic, he'd perhaps despise the concept of churches. He feels at ease, so much that the sounds of grunting and wincing did not bother him. Perhaps this was a good thing, so that he won't lose his sanity and go mad before finishing the quest in one go. He continues to wish that the task was more interesting—or was it boring because he was alone?

The homunculus finished his act and left not only the two now-unconscious deranged cultists, but also Masami, acting as if the boy was never his companion. Without complaining, Masami matches the speed of his companion but in flight, following it further into the catacombs, inevitably reaching their destination point. Their leader had already started their rituals, triggering Abbadon's wrath. They'll soon summon destruction and, although Masami was tasked to stop them as soon as possible, he was hesitant due to curiosity. Maybe if they waited a little more, a task "too easy" had made the boy a little too overconfident, letting engagement enhance on its' own, up until the point where the task had become hard enough and had become entertaining.

Masami

喜多正美

Apparently, Abbadon's unempathetic and ruthless behavior did not hesitate a charge, and had left Masami to seemingly float in the air, idling; the job he was given, and the power he was ought to destroy completely, had become a mere play—a show, a theatric play. Did I even have to be here, in the first place? having learnt how to fight, Masami had also learnt the cases in which his assistance is needed. He had learned that some people prefer not to receive any sort of help, and that giving them the assistance would instead become an act of rudeness. Thus, Masami flew in the air, watching two beings crumble in magic. He had to hover from one spot to another a few times only, because his presence was either undetected or mattered not at all. Then, immediately after Masami assumed that it's time for Abbadon to finish the battle by winning, a large explosion-like magic crumbled even the grounds below, as well as the air. The cultist had been defeated without Masami's help, and he needed not give out the details of the battle. It was not breathtaking nor underwhelming—in fact, it felt as if Masami had already watched the scene, over and over again. His interest with the homunculus did not linger – was it because it was not human, that its' behavior was apparently both inferior and compliant? Or, perhaps Masami did not find the homunculus unique or interesting enough. Tastes develop eventually after encountering enough beings, whether or not they are human.

"That's done now," he told the homunculus, "let's go back to Lady Merlin." He heard the homunculus groan, repeating Lady Merlin's name behind the boy's back, then the creature would rush out – Masami would follow. It's the dead of the night already and, immediately Masami was relieved of a realization, despite wanting to go to bed already. He had let the homunculus travel on its' own, minding not of the boy's presence as a companion, whereas the same boy "cover their tracks" with the use of fire. It was the same experience—Masami was reminded of his old guildmaster. The inconsistency had made things scarier than the night.

He was thankful that the distance between Lady Merlin's location from the Grand Cathedral of Crocus wasn't so big, otherwise Masami would've had spent more energy than he wanted to. Feeling as if he was becoming brattier (or apparently, lazy), he brushes the thought of repentance before the idea had become the conclusion. Now, they were going to report back to Lady Merlin, yet the homunculus was nowhere to be found. Masami ventured alone into the night, thinking that he'd perhaps find Lady Merlin along to way, or back to Mercurius—the place where they first met. However, it is unsure whether that truly was the place they initially met. Lady Merlin had looked young—too young for her age—and that she must've had the magic of changing forms. Masami had a feeling that they have met somewhere else before, except when she was not "Lady Merlin" and that Masami was not yet aware of all these. While he wondered in the skies, the person he thought of had whispered behind his ears, yet the boy was not startled the slightest.

He looked to see Lady Merlin's joyful and playful expression, greeting Masami with a wave of a hand. She was floating in the air as well, and Masami sees no sight of the Abbadon she had created. "That creature... it isn't with you?" then... where could it be? Supposedly, it ran off to meet Lady Merlin and, if it realizes that she is no longer in the place that the homunculus last knew off, it might lose itself in insanity, wreaking havoc. Masami worries and finds the sympathy slightly uncomfortable; "He's gone off to look for me," said Merlin, slowly drifting away in a motion that matches Masami's, "are you worried that it might go mad?" Perhaps Masami had become a bit too predictable.

He nodded his head in answer, "I worry that it might eventually grab the attention of all of Crocus City. Knowing how intelligent the people are, they'll also know that I have been acquainted with you." At the end of his statement, he looked at Lady Merlin, attempting to predict her next response. In the end, he thought that he was being inconsistent and unconvincing, so he added: "I have always assumed you cared about your identity's mystery."

Lady Merlin couldn't help but sigh—perhaps she thought that Masami, too, was being inconsistent and unconvincing. "I do," she answered, nonchalantly, yet slightly forced, "but you're still a boy, so you wouldn't know, even if you are forced into the mold of a star." Her words struck Masami—they were still drifting with the winds, and that the atmosphere did not let either fill the mood with unease. "I guess I'm still a child in the end," then, he laughed it out.
