Mikajia
It felt like he had just got done dealing with the problem at the cathedral, when he received yet another letter requesting his assistance with the catacombs once more. Though, based on how the last one went, he half expected to never receive a letter requesting his help with these matters ever again. But hey, it’s not like he had killed the priest, or anything. He hadn’t even actually attacked the guy. To be fair, the priest was the one who should have received some kind of punishment. Here Mikajia had went all that way to help them out, only to be treated like shit by a priest, and actually locked in the catacombs beneath the cathedral by the man.

Mikajia hadn’t even really cared that he had tried to lock him down in the catacombs, it wasn’t like it was all that hard for him to break out of it, but it was the fact that he hadn’t even done anything to the man. Somehow, by just seeing Mikajia once, the man had been able to deduce that he had Daemon blood running through his veins. Something Mikajia himself hadn’t even known until then. And once the priest pointed it out to him, or rather, kept calling him things like ‘Daemon scum’, Mikajia spent a good deal of time going around and talking to people to discover if this was actually true.

Turns out, it was, and the blood had only just recently awakened in him. If Mikajia had to guess, he’d say it was due to him getting stronger. His magic reserves growing, his strength increasing, unlocking hidden potential in him. And he figured, part of that was his Daemon heritage. Whatever the reason, Mikajia wasn’t at all upset about this. In fact, he viewed it as a godsend.

Mikajia
Some people hated being different, being the outcast, being singled out and picked on. But Mikajia was not one of them. He couldn’t give two shits what others thought about him. Being normal was vastly overrated, and quite frankly, he would rather die. Why the hell would he view such an amazing boon as a curse? It made no sense to him. Yet there were certainly people in the world that would see his situation and look on him with pity, thinking he was some kind of poor, unfortunate, cursed soul. But he would simply look at those people and laugh.

It definitely made sense now to him though, why he had gone blind with bloodlust the last time he had dealt with the catacomb. Even before he had awakened his Daemon blood, Mikajia had been someone that relished a challenge, and loved pitting his strength against a worthy foe. But now, it was twice as bad. So when his new blood had sensed the strength of the creature sitting in the catacombs, power radiating off of its body, he had lost complete control to his battle-lust. It had felt like a dream to him; his body flying around the catacombs, spinning and twisting through the air, bringing a swift death to anything that stood in his way.

His body was moving completely on instinct, and it had felt like he was watching the events from someone else’s perspective entirely. It was an amazing experience, though he wasn’t entirely sure he really wanted to go through it again any time soon. Yes, it had worked out in his favor, but it also could have very easily not. The only real reason he had been able to defeat that creature while fighting completely on instinct, was because it wasn’t all that bright.

Mikajia
After finding out about his Daemon blood, Mikajia had spent several days researching everything he could about the creatures. It wasn’t easy finding the information he was seeking, most places considered it dark knowledge, and it was generally looked down upon to just blatantly ask about the information. Plus, if it got around to the wrong people about his new blood, he could very quickly find himself in some dangerous situations. Mikajia loved battle and fighting worthy opponents, he didn’t however, enjoy completely one-sided fights, especially where one side was definitely not looking to take prisoners. So he had to be sneaky.

However, despite the difficulties of coming across concrete information on Daemons, Mikajia eventually found some good books that described what changes a person would go through whenever they started to feel the effects of their inherited blood. The transformation was obviously the most prominent part of the change, but it was something that had to be earned, almost. The way the book described it, it was a boon of sorts, to those that understood what a blessing these new powers were. And after embracing the bloodline, and working to better understand the new blood coursing through their veins and grasping the power that lye within, eventually they could achieve stronger and more powerful transformations.

He could tell he had already started down that path, and with a grin, he realized he didn’t have too much longer to go till he could see some real growth in his power. Mikajia couldn’t really describe the thrill that ran through his body at the thought of how powerful he was growing, day by day. He could say for sure that he was fairly strong, most other mages would not readily pick a fight with him now. But there were still plenty that could easily wipe the floor with him, so he couldn’t really gloat quite yet.

Mikajia
Mikajia approached the first cathedral he had worked for and helped to clear their catacombs a couple times in the past. As he got closer to the church, he made sure to focus on holding in his fear ability. It was something he had read up on about the Daemons. They apparently emitted this presence that caused people all around them to inherently fear them, making them run away in terror, or just lose their will to fight. If Mikajia had to guess, he would say that was what had told the priest what he was. If you knew what to look for, and weren’t particularly weak, you could detect the ability and resist it.

Though he wasn’t particularly worried about affecting most of the people around him with his fear ability, it would definitely make this process go by much more smoothly if he wasn’t constantly attracting negative attention. Plus, there was no telling how far and wide the church’s influence here was, and he really didn’t feel like having to deal with some kind of ‘Exorcist’ or some shit. So with the fear ability reigned in, Mikajia finished approaching the church, and began looking for the priest that had worked with him the last times he had been here.

Within a few minutes, the priest was making his way over to Mikajia, greeting him rather pleasantly, which raised Mikajia’s suspicion. Though this priest hadn’t been outright rude to Mikajia in the past, he also hadn’t been overly friendly either. And yeah, Mikajia hadn’t had the awakened Daemon blood yet, but he had displayed some rather brutal means to dealing with their problem, versus simply helping the spirits move on, like they had asked Mikajia to do. So, the priest’s bubbly and friendly personality towards Mikajia threw him off.

Mikajia
Upon further inspection, he found out that word had gotten around about the other priest’s treatment of Mikajia during his last job with them, and they didn’t agree with his behavior. At least, they didn’t while they believed he wasn’t a Daemon. Apparently he was right to keep his Fear under control, because aside from his transformation, there was no other easy way besides the Fear, to determine if someone had Daemon blood running through their veins. So, believing he had been unjustly accused, they were apparently trying to be really nice to him now. Well, that and he had proven himself very useful in at least temporarily ridding the catacombs of problems.

He was honestly perfectly fine with this. If it helped his jobs to go by faster, he would gladly put on this façade. Mikajia thanked the man for his kind words, then they made their way towards the familiar entrance to the catacombs. Once at the entrance, the priest informed Mikajia that they didn’t think the spirits or other creatures inhabiting the catacombs were all that strong from what they had seen, but it appeared they were much greater in number than they ever had been before. Mikajia nodded his understanding before the priest opened the door, then closing it once Mikajia started descending the steps into the catacombs.

He could tell the priest was mostly right. The air in the catacombs was practically swimming with energy, waves of magical power washing over his body as he descended lower and lower. It wasn’t particularly powerful magic power, and it wasn’t coming from just one source either. So that meant the whole area had to be packed full with entities that gave off magic power. Unlike the other times he had came down here though, none of them really seemed to possess any real malevolence.

Mikajia
That didn’t really matter to him though, even if every single spirit roaming around in this area was as benevolent as could be, he was still ridding the place of the creatures. Plus, there had to be at least a couple that weren’t completely benevolent, considering there had still been a couple complaints about some poltergeist activity from people walking by the cathedral. And yeah, he might have been able to pass it off as a coincidence, considering there was absolutely nothing to say that there weren’t any other ghosts or spirits residing in the nearby area.

But neither could he simply just brush aside the very real presence of dozens upon dozens of apparitions right before his eyes in the catacombs. He wasted no more time after entering the wide-open domed room directly after stepping off the stairs leading from the entrance. Mikajia conjured some chains and got to work. It didn’t take him long to make his way through the first area. Though there were more apparitions than he felt like trying to count, none of them put up a fight. And the few that looked like they would try something, fell far too quickly to really do much.

It took him roughly an hour to clear out the entirely of the catacombs. He was a bit surprised by how long it had taken, only expecting it to take roughly thirty minutes, considering none of them were violent. But the sheer number made the process go by quite a bit slower. When he had cleared out the last hallway in the catacomb, he cut off his magic, stretched to loosen up his muscles, then made his way back up to the entrance. Once he exited onto the grounds around the cathedral, he was greeted by the priest with a very surprised look on his face.

Mikajia
Apparently the priest had expected Mikajia to take much longer than he had, but was very pleased to see the job finished in such a timely manner. What’s more, Mikajia could tell he was also pleased to see that Mikajia didn’t look like some ghoulish creature himself this time. The last two times he had came here to do this job, he had ended up covered in grime and some kind of ectoplasm from the apparitions he had slain. This time though, since the vast majority had simply been basic spirits, he didn’t have much grime on him at all, so he looked much more civilized, rather than some fiendish abomination.

Mikajia nodded his head in thanks for the compliment before receiving his payment, then told the priest to not hesitate to call on him whenever the problem started to get out of hand again. He turned and started making his way back home. All in all, he was pleased with how the job had progressed. It was true that he hadn’t came across any strong foes this time around like the last cathedral’s catacombs, however, he had managed to learn a bit more about his Daemon bloodline from his interaction with the priest, which was still valuable.

But probably most importantly, he could feel it in his blood. Something was telling him he was about to reach one of the plateaus of his Daemon transformation. The feeling had been getting stronger and stronger as he had been clearing out the catacombs just now. Once he got home, he would be doing some meditation to help center him and find out if he was right or not. All in all, though it had been a fairly uneventful job, he had finished quickly, learned some important info, and progressed in strength with his new Daemon abilities and transformation. He certainly wouldn’t call that wasted.
