Spirits were restless. It was a simple fact. And there were only two ways to calm their souls. Destroy them, or help them finish their unfinished business. The latter was probably the more difficult route if we're being honest. Sometimes it just seemed like fighting was the easiest option; if not the only option. Rinni didn't like to see things that way, however. She liked to believe there was good in everyone and hope in all things.

With that mindset, she headed to the Oakland Church, a place renowned for its spirit activity and regular reoccurring hauntings. This time, she went alone. She was dressed casual but warm as the cold winter air blew past her, causing the hair on her neck to stand up and send a shiver down her spine. It was a far cry from the chills this creepy building gave her.

The second she entered she could feel the presence of the dead. Not all of them were friendly ghosts. In fact, most of them gave off the distinctive vibe that they wanted her to leave. As Rinni slowly descended the stairwell into the basement, she shivered with chills from both the cold and the creeps. Activating her Pocket Dimension Ring, the werewolf brought forth her bow and quiver just in case she'd need it.

She moved cautiously around the basement, looking for any malevolent entities that may try to stir trouble. It wasn't long before the ghosts revealed themselves to her. Some were crying women and children. Others were screaming and violent banshees and wraiths. It would probably be safer to get rid of the most aggressive ones first.

She looked to her side and began to speak to her companion. Then she remembered she was all alone. Her blood ran cold and she choked back tears as she drew back her bowstring, aiming an arrow toward a wraith. She released and fired several arrows in succession, each chasing their respective target until they hit. A few spirits were smart and went through walls, causing the projectiles to hit the wall instead of them.

She did manage to 'destroy' five spirits. But really, how does one kill something that was already dead? They'd be back... eventually. They always came back. Looking at the ectoplasm splattered on the ground she couldn't help but wonder if that was where they came from. Maybe they respawned like a phoenix from ashes?

The werewolf ventured deeper into the musty basement, crinkling her nose at the smell of mold mixed with death and decay. She passed a few caskets and realized this area was used as a crypt at some point or another. Perhaps it still was and the dead here were the restless spirits bothered by the noises of those worshipping deities within the church itself. Truly it was difficult to say. Having no one to talk to, Rinni continued to silently take out aggressive spirits with her bow. She ignored the more friendly and sad spirits, for now, deciding to prioritize the dangerous ones first.

After all, last time she tried to talk to a small child, a group of wraiths had tossed her across the room. Thankfully Gunter was with her at the time and broke her fall. She gripped her bow tightly, her claws digging into the palm of her hand as she thought of Gunter. She could go all out down here. It wouldn't hurt anyone. As long as she stopped the spirits instead of angering them there was no harm done, right?

She felt her body changing but managed to stop herself. No, she had to stay calm. She had to learn control. Gunter had lied to her. There was nothing good to come out of letting the beast take control of her. She almost killed Lucian's dhuilin that way. And she was sure she'd kill an innocent person that day if there were any present. It was too dangerous to lose control like that. She had to do what Lucian always told her. Control herself. She inhaled deeply and released a long, slow sigh to calm herself.

Ok, back to business. She had to clear this area out. Once it was clear, she could check the other areas of this creepy church. Aiming her bow, she fired several more Arrow Shots, taking out ten more spirits per arrow. Now that the wraiths and banshees were dealt with, she went about helping the kinder spirits find rest. She reunited parents were children. Reassured family members that their loved ones were doing well, even if she herself could not confirm that. Anything to bring peace to the spirits that deserved it. Once the area was cleared, she headed farther down the stairs into the main section and then proceeded farther into the catacombs where she heard the telltale sounds of vengeful spirits.

As Rinni explored deeper into the catacombs, it seemed there were more spirits here than there was in her first visit. Or maybe that's because the last time she came here she wasn't alone? Either way, the teen sighed in frustration at the mess she had to clear out by herself. The deeper she explored, the darker it became. It made her appreciate what she was that much more. Being a werewolf definitely had its benefits. As it were, she was slowly getting used to it. It was difficult adjusting to her improved senses, and learning how to partially transform as only added to the mix of complications.

Hopefully, she wouldn't need to transform down here. These spectres appeared pretty simple to defeat for the most part. Rinni paused to run her fingers through her hair, activating her Pocket Dimension Ring, she put her hair back using her Ranger Headband. She then called forth her Ranger Cloak. Time to get serious. There were way too many spirits here, and so many angry aggressive spirits for her to relax around. As she equipped her gear, she readied her bow just in time for a spirit to charge toward her screaming profanities as she shot an arrow through its eye.

Spotting a crying woman, she approached calmly and helped unite the woman with the spirit of her children, allowing all of them to pass on together. She wished the evil spirits were that easy to save, unfortunately, most attacked her before she could so much as say a single word to them. She sighed and headed deeper into the catacombs where she met another evil spirit. This one refusing to allow her to pass and screaming at her to turn back.

"Why are you so angry? How is it I can help you?" Rinni offered, lowering her bow to show she meant no threat.

"GET OUT! NO ONE INVITED YOU HERE!"

"Just calm down. I don't want to have to kill you..."

"YOU CAN'T KILL WHAT IS ALREADY DEAD!"

"Destroy you then. Would you prefer that over passing on?"

"YOU CAN DO NOTHING FOR ME, BEAST."

"You don't know that unless you tell me why you're so angry." Rinni pleaded. She didn't want to destroy every spirit in here if she could avoid it. Eventually, the spirit was content to tell her what it was that angered him so. Apparently, he was brutally murdered and the spirit that murdered him in life was somewhere in hereafter death and spent every day taunting and tormenting him. So Rinni decided to make a promise to the spectre. She would hunt down and destroy this murderous spirit so that he could move on.

Rinni knew what it was to lose. What it was to want revenge. So she proceeded to search for this one menacing spirit that had ruined that poor soul's life and by extension his afterlife. She destroyed countless spirits in her search who had sought to stop her journey right here and make her just another ghost in this dank crypt. She had no intention of giving up until she found that spirit, where it was. She saved the souls of several women, children, and men... and destroyed the evil remnants of men and women who only wished nothing but harm and destruction.

As she hunted, her mind raced over everything she had lost over the past year to the present date.

Her Humanity...

An arrow whizzed through the air striking a spirit.

Her Guild...

Another three arrows slam into their respective targets with deadly precision.

Her boyfriend...

Another 10 spirits destroyed.

Her friends...

She transformed into a werewolf and snarled as she lunged and ripped into various spirits.

Her companion!

She lets out a sorrowful yet feral howl as the rage built up driving her onward into an onslaught of spirits, wraiths, souls, and other such lost and roaming souls that haunt this place. As she ravaged the area, venting her pent-up pain and anger against these anguished souls, she spotted him. The dark spectre that she had been hunting. She transformed back into a human and stood face to face with her target, staring him down as he floated 10 meters away from her scowling. She summoned her bow, drawing back the bowstring and aiming an arrow at the entity across from her. As she launched the arrow, the spectre weaved past it, dodging the shot as he screamed and charged toward Rinni forcing her to dive out of the way. Looked like this was going to be more challenging than she thought.

Looked like Rinni had a fight on her hands. She lunged and swiped at the spirit but every attack seemed to do little to no damage. Was she going through him? I mean, it'd make sense being as she was fighting a spirit... but transparency was never an issue before. Running out of range of the spirit, she turned around and was a human girl again, bow at the ready. She launched an arrow at the angry spirit. Unlike the others, it didn't explode on impact. However, it did howl in pain and anger. So, she could hurt him. But it appeared he was stronger than the rest and it would take more than an arrow and a few strikes to bring him down. She launched five arrows in his direction. She then transformed again.

Minding her arrows, which were in pursuit of the spirit, Rinni howled and swiped at the spirit, distracting him from her previous assault as his focus was now on herself. She snarled baring her fangs at the evil spirit as it lunged toward her full speed. The five arrows were following behind him. Two of them struck him in the back causing him to scream in pain as he flashed in and out of view.

Rinni rolled out of the way as the remaining three arrows whizzed over her head. Her ears drew down as she watched them slowly change direction, U-turning back toward the spirit. Her amber eyes shot toward the spirit who was now charging her once more. Before she could dodge him again, he knocked her across the building, causing her to yelp in surprise more than actual pain. Her tail slapped the ground as she lifted her eyes toward the spirit.

He stared her down as she dug her claws into the dirt-caked floors, scratching at the molded wood. She howled challengingly and before the spirit could react, the other three arrows slammed into him destroying him in a huge explosion of ectoplasm. The spray of liquid covered Rinni in green slime. She shook herself off much like an annoyed dog in rain, and smiled as the spirits she freed from his tyranny thanked her and passed on to the afterlife.

She then returned to the angry spirit that gave her this task and told him his family had moved on and are waiting for him to join them. The spirit calmed and thanked her for her assistance as he faded away. Rinni returned to the pastor, slowly transforming back to her human form as she exited the building and received her reward. She then moved on, glad to be out of that place.
