Cold, an eerie coldness haunted her body as she felt herself lacking the ability to move even in the slightest. It was a peculiar feeling, her mind was still there, but it felt disconnected from her body. That was how Esperia felt as she died. Despite the tragic events the Demon Lord of Lust refused to accept this outcome, having fled to Earthland in the hope of losing the minions of Zafahiel who surely would attempt to find her.

Finally as she arrived at her destination, a lone temple on the outskirts of a large city in Joya the demon carefully placed Esperia's unmoving body on the bed. To some it might had looked like she had been asleep, if not for the coldness of her flesh and the demonic energy that was pulsing within.

"Don't you dare to die now Esperia, you got a promise to keep..."

The Demon Lord whispered, but no response came from the lifeless woman. A deep sigh followed from Asmodeus as she took a seat at the edge of the bed.

"Idiot... No sane mortal would risk their life to save a demon."

Yet as Asmodeus leaned closer, resting her head on Esperia's torso the Demon Lord's fear was confirmed: Esperia's heart had stopped beating...

She had died.

Even the presence of Valerie had done little to bring life back into the body of the vampire, and as time passed the demonic energy had started to intensify. Asmodeus believed it was the result of the demonic essence, the obscura of herself and Zafahiel attempting to corrupt the body of the woman, if she was alive that would had been a dangerous thing, but right now it would had just turned Esperia's body into the corpse of a demon.

No, if there was to be any hope of saving Esperia, then she would need to help her be reborn: Not as a human or a vampire, but as a demon. Only then would she be able to endure the corruption of her body.

But that idea was not without risks. Not many possessed a will strong enough to overcome the chaos and madness of the Obscura that tainted them, but still Asmodeus believed it would work, and as such she had informed Valerie of her intentions to turn Esperia into a demon.

The ritual was carried out, but even then the body of the girl didn't stir, all they could do was wait and pray she would return.

Darkness, darkness as far as the eye could see. To Esperia it felt like she was trapped in a void. There was no life, no anything at all. Even her body seemed to not exist, as if she was an ethereal being in a realm of nothingness. And yet she could move, one step after the other came as she watched images form into existence, like pictures of her memories but the moment she tried to reach out to them they scattered, and with each one that disappeared she felt emptier.

What was happening to her? Did she die? Was this what happened when someone perished? Would their soul simply dissolve into nothingness? It was a terrifying thought. Wandering amidst the sea of memories made manifest through pictures, Esperia slowly found herself trailing after a wisp of light. She didn't know why she was chasing it, just that something instinctively was drawing her toward it.

Yet for all her efforts the wisp remained out of reach, and with each memory that disappeared, the colder and weaker she felt. How long would it be till nothing was left? Till Esperia von Eisenberg ceased to exist entirely?

It was a thought that terrified her, even if it was a fate she couldn't escape from...

Meanwhile Asmodeus during her frequent checking on the girl had witnessed a disturbing change in Esperia. Her body had become surrounded in a thick layer of webbing, a cocoon that had grown overnight, and despite her attempts to tear through it, the cocoon was much more sturdy than a normal spider's web.

It was at some point that the demonic essence pulsing from within became so strong it manifested physically, a thick oppressively mist of darkness being expelled from the cocoon as finally it shattered. A small spider-like creature was seated where Esperia had once been, its eyes gazing around the room in bewilderment.

"Esperia?" Asmodeus called out, but the moment the demon lord tried to reach out to her, the spider made a threatening noise and jumped right at Asmodeus' throat, the fangs digging into her flesh!

A pained cry came from the Demon Lord of lust as she collapsed backwards onto the ground, the spider demon on top of her. "S-snap out of it Esperia!" The Demon tried to shout, but she felt that as the fangs of the spider dug into her flesh, the demon felt her obscura being slowly drained.

It was only even more worrisome that the spider grew larger, around the size of a large dog and still didn't show any signs of human intelligence.

The moment rushed footsteps came from outside the room and the spider turned toward the newcomer, its initial hostility seemed to turn toward hesitation, and then fear. It knew that attacking her was a bad idea, something horrible would happen if it did that, so instead like a cornered prey it fled from the temple. Even as it felt its pursuers chase her, the spider used its webbing to climb onto a rooftop and soon disappeared from sight.

Hunger... an intense hunger remained in the spider as it was perched above an alley. The spider had watched with interest as a man was busily trying to hide the corpse of a victim he had dealt with, perhaps a murderer? Or maybe a more complex story had happened there, but the demon didn't care, it simply saw the corpse as a easy feeding ground and as soon as the man left the spider started to crawl down, feasting on the flesh of the deceased.

It was odd, with each victim she devoured she felt stronger, bigger and yet the hunger didn't lessen in the slightest. She needed to feed, feed and feed.

Once more she continued to crawl along the alleyway, searching for another victim to devour...

Having left the city behind the spider demon had instead chosen for a rural village nearby, believing it to be easier to find prey there. At first she lurked in the forest surrounding the village, feeding on wild animals but the demon found that to be inefficient: It gave her less power and the hunger only intensified. But on a particular evening, near the moment the sun would disappear at the end of the horizon and dusk would approach, the demon overheard voices.

She couldn't understand what they were saying, not because she didn't speak their language, but because it simply didn't care to comprehend their words. Instead the spider demon watched with interest as a child was walking besides their father, having just returned from the farm fields they worked at.

"You did an excellent job helping me today Tatsuya, once we get home I'll ask your mom to make your favorite dessert again."

The boy cheered happily at his father's words, but the joyful expression soon turned into dread as it saw the glowing eyes of the spider amidst the shadows of the forest.

"P-Papa!" The boy yelled in fear, pointing at the forest as the silhouette of the large spider demon became visible.

The warning had come too late for the lad, the sticky threads coiling around the man's body and pulling him onto the ground, the sheer strength of the creature making his struggles futile. "Tatsuya, run to the village! call for help!"

The boy cried as he nodded his head and ran toward the direction of the village as the man saw the encroaching visage of his demise. The giant monstrous spider towered above him, and then slowly lifted one of its clawed legs. A horrified look appeared in the man's eyes as the appendage dug into his stomach, and soon the spider's jaws opened, ready to feast.

It felt weird, no matter how much she ate, even as the flesh was consumed and the blood feasted upon, the demon felt her hunger not subdue. Was there nothing that could help her get rid of this feeling of starvation? The sounds further ahead from the village drew the spider's curiosity, leading to the monster to slowly approach in the direction the noises came from, leaving the half-eaten corpse of the father in her wake.

A sudden sting in her flank made the spider turn its eyes sideways, revealing a javelin had been impaled in her flank as a group of armed guards came rushing in her direction!

Despite their best efforts the guards found it borderline impossible to stop the advance of the spider. Her body was surprisingly tough, even the javelin that had been thrown into her flank had done little to stop her, and the efforts of samurai to slash at her legs made it feel like they were colliding against hardened steel.

But nonetheless they couldn't, and wouldn't falter: The village depended on them! The leader of the guards charged, but suddenly the spider shot a series of threads at him, coiling the man in her web and flinging him straight into a nearby building!

The other guards panicked, and the demon took that opportunity to lunge at the nearest one, crushing it under her legs as she turned toward the remaining soldiers that were doing their best to regroup and continue their efforts to stop her.

Still, how could someone stop a creature that was fueled only by primal hunger? No matter the pain it suffered, it continued onwards without flinching.

Yet it appeared that even as the guards were fighting the demon, a different fight was about to unfold at the same time. Somewhere deep within the demon's psyche...

"Are you really fine with this?"

A voice called out to her, leading to Esperia to turn around to search for the one it came from. However, even as she attempted to track down the origin of the voice, she stumbled onto something else instead, something which disturbed her to her core. A demon, no she could not even describe it as such. A mass that resembled a giant oozing monster was rapidly sliding toward her, before she even had the chance to act she felt the creature attempting to pull her into it, to devour and consume the last vestiges of her subconsciousness.

Even as she struggled to break free, her weakened state only made her sink deeper into it.

"Did you not make a promise to return to her?"

The voice spoke again, yet as Esperia struggled in futility it continued speaking. "You always tried to shoulder the burden yourself, but then why... why do you believe you aren't allowed to be saved instead?"

Because this burden was her own to bear... "And yet, should you continue on that path you will only meet oblivion. Do you not desire to be saved? Do you not long to return to her? Then just reach out to those who would extend a hand to you."

As she felt the ooze almost consuming her being entirely, she felt a hand grasping her own, the wisp from before having made manifest in the form of her lover as Esperia cried out. "Please save me!"

A bright burst of energy came from the ooze, knocking it back and illuminating the void, but what awaited her could had been considered just as terrifying.

A giant grotesque creature towered over her, a monster that could be well and truly be described as an abomination. The manifestation of the devourer's obscura!

The creature opened its giant maw, the inhaling of air almost being enough to pull her and Valerie off their feet but a sudden bolt of diamond crashed down onto the beast, interrupting it as Esperia looked back to the one who had cast the spell in bewilderment.

"A-Ali?"

Yet she was not the only one, a sudden roar pierced the sky as a magnificent phoenix descended from the sky, crashing right into the abomination and making it reel backwards as the phoenix regained its human form, the young take-over mage and his phoenix companion perched on his shoulder.

"Daiko?! H-how is this possible?"

Esperia was flabbergasted, yet the same voice from before could be heard giggling in her mind. "Why are you so surprised my dear? We are currently within your soul~ What you are witnessing right now is simply your desires made manifest."

A flash of light followed as the black-winged maiden descended from the sky, the sight of Asmodeus making her smile weakly. "I should have expected you to get homesick~" To which Asmodeus hummed playfully. "You did consume part of my essence, so it is only natural I can appear here~ But we got more pressing matters: If you don't wish to be consumed by the Devourer's Obscura you better hurry up and learn to draw forth the power of your desires~"

To draw strength from her desire? Esperia felt somewhat confused at that statement, and seeing her expression Asmodeus quickly explained: "Try to give shape to your imagination, think of something you really desire~"

Something that she desired? Like returning to her loved ones? To be able to uphold her promise? Was such a thing even possible as someone who had just died? "Anything is possible for a demon: as long as they have enough ambition and desire~"

Asmodeus' words suddenly made Esperia think of something, or rather someone, when all of a sudden a flash of light burst beside her, one that moved so fast she could barely follow when finally the after-image took the form of the former master of the Sentinel Syndicate. "Deal with this pest already Esperia, and then get your ass homewards, I won't forgive you if you end up dying before you explain to me why the hell the Sentinels disappeared."

The demon suddenly turned into pure gold, a few tremors following when finally the creature collapsed onto the ground with a heavy thud.

"You can do it Esperia, claim the Obscura as your own, become the master of your demonic powers and return to the one who is awaiting your return."

The woman raised her hand toward the creature, countless ethereal threads of shadowy energy coiling out from the magic circle in front of her as they wrapped around the demon and started to pull it closer toward her!

"No.... not like this!"

The demon shouted out in rage as it felt its essence being consumed.

"CURSE YOU ASMODEUS!"

The Demon's final words pierced the air as its entire body dissolved into the shadowy mass and disappeared into the magic circle, leading to Esperia to suddenly feel a painful throbbing in her chest, one so bad it made her collapse onto her knees.

"It is time to wake up sleepyhead~"

Meanwhile as the demonic spider had slain the last of the guards the sound of rushed footsteps made her turn into their direction. Once more 'they' had appeared, one being the Demon Lord of Lust, Asmodeus and the other being that female werewolf that stirred an instinctive fear in her. She knew something bad was going to happen if she attacked her. But now? Now she had devoured so many people and grown strong enough not even she could likely resemble a threat to her!

The woman took a step forward, and another, and in response the demonic spider felt threatened, shooting a stream of threads at her which latched onto the woman's shoulder, and pulling herself in the spider knocked her onto her back!

Asmodeus darted toward her. "Esperia don't!"

Yet even as she raised her claw the female showed no fear, the words spoken by her making the appendage stop mid-strike. "D..." the creature uttered, its claw shaking lightly as tears started to flow from the eyes of the demon. "darling..."

A sudden metamorphosis happened as the demon seemed to shrink in size, till its shape itself changed entirely into that of a human being, the white-haired maiden weeping on top of her lover.

Whatever had happened, Esperia had returned to her loved one, but the sins she had made before that happened would not so easily be forgotten....
