DEVILS MAY CRY
Nana stood outside the church and several meters down the hill, she looked up the steps and secretly wondered what the old priest was up to. Now that she was in a much higher position within the guild of Eternal Nightmares, she wondered if the old priest would treat her any different. Respect maybe. Not that Nana truly cared what others thought of her, except that they feared her of course. Fear was a useful tool in controlling others... as well as predicting them. Chances were that the old priest wouldn't change his mind however. he and Nana had gone back and forth quite a lot and she was fairly certain that he was set in his ways. Weak as weak could be, he supposedly held himself to a higher power, a divinity of whatever origin. Nana couldn't refute the man's religion, nor his ferver. She could however make fun of him and make his life a living hell. To which, she did quite often. Finally, she talked herself into going up the hill and then up the steps. WC-179 WC Total-179

DEVILS MAY CRY
The daemon woman, queen of nightmares, stood outside of the door and gently placed her hands upon the carefully carved wooden doors. The carved wooden doors depicted some holy event- a supper maybe or a gathering of some kind. Nana knew very little of this church's faith and frankly, she cared even less than she presently knew. With a sigh and push of her hands, the large doors opened in the middle to allow the daemon passage into the holy building. Contrary to what some may have believed, Nana did not in fact burst into flames. Whether because it was a simple superstition or the building wasn't holy at all, it mattered little to Nana. What did matter is that she hadn't burst into flames. "Took you long enough." came a voice from behind a wall. The old priest walked through an adjacent door on the far side of the church, near the pulpit. "I was beginning to think you had gotten too busy with raising little nightmares to think of the rest of the world." said the priest in mock interest. WC-182 WC Total-361

It was almost reassuring that the priest was ever so quick to add insult or sarcasm. It seemed no matter what happened or how much time passed; some things never changed. Nana smiled though, her typical seemingly harmless and innocent ladylike charm. "If I were too busy raising little nightmares, my thoughts would only be on the rest of the world. When I unleash those baby nightmares into the dreams of every citizen." she would say flatly, leaving the priest little room to continue their game. "Gods have mercy on those poor citizens souls' then." he would say solemnly. He knew that he was but an ordinary man and definitely no match for the queen of nightmares. Not that he was the type to seek mortal retribution anyways. He believed in a much higher power. He prayed for divine retribution of course. "To the matter at hand then. Lately there have been too many frequent and unnatural tremors beneath the church. It is beginning to scare away the good people of Oak from attending my sermons." he would say, implying there was more going on beneath the church than mere earthquakes. WC-191 WC Total-552

"No doubt you suspect that a great evil has awakened beneath the church. Hoping I meet my end while solving your dilemma?" she would ask almost playfully. Both of them knew that the priest requested her help due to many reasons. Discretion, professionalism, success rate, and other things like that. They both also knew that it was a ridiculous notion that evil spirits would spawn on holy ground. They also both knew that secretly the priest did in fact wish that Nana would die beneath the church in the catacombs while fighting some spirit. The only thing that bothered the priest in that grim scenario was that if Nana had lingering attachments to the mortal realm, she would come back to haunt the church as a spirit. Quite an evil spirit at that. "To have you haunt my holy church for eons? No, I don't think so." he would say refutably. Nana would just nod in agreement, her smile belying the man his hopes and fears alike. "Go down to the catacombs and ascertain what the problem is. Help peaceful spirits to pass on and strongly encourage the not so pleasant spirits into passing on." he would say. He had learned from his past mistakes in not wording his requests properly. While the priest was learning, he was not quite at Nana's level of word games, nor mind games. She nodded her head though, mostly to reassure the priest that he had requested the specifics properly. The way he had worded it though, could easily be misconstrued as to use 'more' violence against evil spirits and less violence against peaceful spirits. Oh how she loved the mind games. "Don't worry old man. I will fulfil your request to the very word." she would say. WC-168 WC Total-931

Nana's eyes lingered on the cracks for a few moments, then upward towards the empty rows of seats. Passed that, her eyes went over the priest's shoulders whom sat in front of her. Finally, her dagger-like golden eyes settled on a table behind the pulpit from which the pastor gave his sermons. WC-166 WC Total-1,097

Nana knew of course. She also knew that the priest was 'reminding' her because that's all he could do. he was too weak to physically stop her. Besides, it was his fault for leaving it within her eye sight after requesting her aid. It was as if it were a gift he had prepared for her arrival. "Oh I don't suspect you will have any seats taken tomorrow, old priest. The evil beneath your church is palpable enough to see signs of chaos in your floors. Those attuned to magic can also tell that there is a malevolent mass of magic in the catacombs. It will take time to repair the good name of you and your church." she would say realistically, to which the priest couldn't refute. WC-226 WC Total-1,323

"Should you be drinking so heavily before going down into the catacombs and fighting something presumably dangerous?" the priest began to actually fear that Nana might die beneath his church and haunt the catacombs. He had thought to take the bottle from her while she had been drinking, but her eyes had been watching him like a snake. If he had thought to attempt to take the bottle away from her, she would have simply outpaced him with the deftness and agility of her feet. WC-186 WC Total-1,509

Of course the priest didn't doubt she was capable of doing this task. Why would he request her aid if it weren't so? He was simply concerned if things went wrong. He would have to find a stronger mage and pay them handsomely to remove Nana's spirit from the church grounds if she were to die in the catacombs. Those funds came from him and the citizens of Oak through donations. They were not easy to come back. The priest clasped his hands together in a powerless fit of resignation and closed his mouth. Nothing he said or did could influence Nana once she had set her mind to something. No matter how whimsical or farcical it seemed. WC-220 WC Total-1,729

Not all of the stone structures here were graves however. One was simply a large hole in the ground, covered by equally impressive slab doors. This was the entrance to the catacombs that mazed in myriad twists and turns into a labyrinth beneath the church. If one was careless or panicked, they could easily become lost in the catacombs beneath the church and never find their way to daylight again. Whether they died from hunger, dehydration or the various entities that happened to come back to life for whatever reasons they were tired to the mortal realm still. WC-177 WC Total-1,906

"It won't be so hard to track you. You're letting off a lot of magical pressure and there are only so many tunnels to check." she would say, more loud than normal speech so that it ensured her words would echo through the tunnels and draw her prey towards the sounds. Whatever she was hunting would surely sense a nearby victim, not knowing that it was not the hunter, but the prey. WC-173 WC Total-2,079

Several long moments passed as Nana awaited the creature to find her. It did eventually. "Took you long enough. Guess you aren't the brightest candle down here huh?" she said to the creature as it emerged from the darkened tunnels. WC-157 WC Total-2,236

A snap of its right head narrowly missed Nana as she turned, then she ducked to avoid the second head's gaping maw which attempted to snatch her into its mouth. "You're a bad dog!" she would exclaim with tense excitement as she had dodged both attacks and readied her own. She stabbed the blades of her daggers into the beast's chest now that she was below the two heads of the beast. She pulled the triggers of both gunblades after stabbing as well. WC-173 WC Total-2,409

She raised a finger towards the beast and aimed it through holding her gunblade. A ref flash of light erupted from her finger into a malevolent magic that sent terrified chills down the undead hound's misshapen spine. The blast did more damage to that very spine, as the blast vaporized the left head of the two headed hound. Having been struck so quickly with accumulated damage, the beast did not yet realize how fatally wounded it had become. WC-160 WC Total-2,569

The second attack had simply been to correct the amount of heads a dog should have. The beast flailed helplessly on the ground as it tried to find its strength, but to no avail. Finally overcome with weakness, the hound stopped struggling and simply stared at Nana and growled in ravenous hunger as she approached with light footsteps. In the dimly lit corridor of the large oval room, she stabbed at the beast's remaining head with her gunblades once more. "Play dead." she would say and the hound would howl in agony before its body went limp. It was dead now and its body began to disintegrate into dark magic as it disappeared. To the side of a passing tunnel was a terrified singular human female ghost that had watched the whole ordeal. The ghost had been running from the beast and was glad that the hound was dead. Yet it was terrified because it had come into contact with an even deadlier beast. An action that proved true and fatal, as Nana fired her gunblade at the ghost's head and evaporated her. Sure it had been a peaceful and maybe even harmless apparition, but it was in her request to 'help' them move on. Nana turned to the exit tunnel she had marked. "Time for a bath. I smell like dog." she would say with a mild amount of disdain. [End][Exit] WC-325 WC Total-2,895
