Aurum was displeased, but he couldn't just say no. The dude is rather elderly. While he is not frail, he does not appear to have relished going out and gathering the herbs by himself. That is why the young warrior volunteered to assist. He did, however, ask if he had any images or a detailed description of the plants he was looking for. Fortunately, the old man had references, which he handed Aurum before dashing happily away to his business. They all appeared unusual, but one of them he recognized immediately. He came across a few on his way into the forest.
A curly fern was the first herbaceous plant on the list. Those weren't difficult to come across because he'd previously seen a handful, so all he had to do was retrace his steps. The forest was vast, gloomy, and ancient. Leaves and branches let just enough light through for brilliant ferns to explode from the sloped and slanting earth below. "It's a miracle light gets through with all of these tall trees," he said, awed by the grandeur of the forest. He then bends his knee to choose only those that are still fresh enough to be useful.
He moved on to the next one after gathering enough ferns. Time passed, and the light gradually faded, causing the entire woodland to lose its shine and embrace a darker appearance. He needed to hurry before it became too dark and unsafe. He eventually found the plant, which was lying on old decaying logs, as the old man claimed. Aurum was perplexed as to why such lovely plants would grow near the decaying wood of the forest; "could they be feeding off them?" he wondered, unknowing of the ways of the delicate herbs that he had been tasked to collect.
The third and last herb was noticeably more unique than the first two. Aurum's wandering eventually leads him deeper into the jungle. He came upon a wild animal. He battled it as much as he could, but after being thrown into the highest trees, he discovers the plants he was hunting for. After cutting off a section of the red leafed vine, he gathered the strength he needed to beat the wild beast into submission. He then rode the beast all the way to the forest's entrance before releasing it from service.
He returned to Khalash's shop after gathering all of the remaining components. He came battered, and the old man graciously offered him a seat before taking the herbs. Saton tosses them into a seething cauldron after a little preparation, and after a little stirring, he pours a bit into a vial and offers Aurum a taste. He feels energy surging through him as he slurps it up. Saton was taking notes and smiled after noticing that the quantity worked. The old man showed his appreciation and handed him a reward, before sending Aurum on his way.
"Well, that was an interesting turn of events," he remarked, still stretching his arms in amazement at the potion he had tasted.
