"Just tell me what I need to know. You don't have to do this." Kaz asked, wishing to spare their lives as killing was not something on his agenda, but stealth was not an option in this situation.
"We will never surrender to you. Blasphemer. What is our life to the revival of the arch angels and the death of the one who betrayed heaven," the cardinal spoke as thousands of spears of light shot from the roof toward Kaz and Elise.
A spear stabbed into the void mage's shoulder, leaving a trail of blood wafting into the air. He had not tried to move from the path. It was not anger that rose within him, but a silent dismay. "I'll only ask once more...tell me what I want to know. Or will you choose to battle to the death?"
"We choose righteousness,"the man yelled loud enough for even Elise to hear amidst battle and beams of light.
Kaz sighed and floated in the air. Pink petals shrouded his body and he was suddenly on the other side of the barrier. "You've chosen your fate. Elise, I'll finish the rest here if you can enter. There should be some ritualist working on a spell on one of the floors." Kaz said and his angelic eye flashed golden and the magical barrier shattered, allowing her to get through easily.
The cardinal began to shift revealing his seraphim form and feathered wings. Spells flew at the void mage, but a miniature black hole appeared hovering around him. The black hole warped the direction of spells. In the next instance, Kaz threw his hand up and two black holes formed above them all. The force yanked soldiers and clerics into the air. As their bodies drew closer to the swirling center, screams echoed as they were crushed under the gravitational force.
