Lumikki

”Sōdesu ka?”(“Is that so?”) Lumikki asked. She was sat at a table taking the first sip of her green tea. She wore a simple black and blue kimono and her pale hair tied back in braids and a bun.

The sun was descending from its highest point but still a long way from touching the horizon. It gave her the time she needed to gather the information and eventually start the hunt.

”Sōdesune, izen wa fusoku shite imashitaga, ima dewa mondai ni naritsutsu arimasu. Riyū ni tsuite wa iemasenga, sore wa tsudzuke rarenai to iu koto dakedesu. Watashi wa kuesuto no tame ni tarisuman o yōi shimashita. Sore o tsukatte gensō o tsukiyaburi, soreijō no inochi ga ushinawa reru mae ni kitsune o tsukamaemasu.”(Yeah, it was scarce before but now it's becoming a problem. We can't say as to why, just that it can't go on. I prepared a talisman for the quest, use it to pierce through the illusions, for that will be many, and seize the fox before more lose their lives.) A man dressed monk robes sat across from the Demoness. If he had any qualms with her nature, she wouldn’t know, as his face hardly did much to betray his true thoughts. It was only an expression quite serene.

Lumikki

Lumikki came on the notion that there was something known to be a “Fox Demon” or Kitsune causing strife to the villages nearby. Most were still in a state of repair from the prior war, a task that could take years or a life time at worst to get done; and the could not do with any beast thinning their already scarce numbers. They sought the aid of a priest, to at his behest, also notify Paradise Dawn with the notion that they could could see this to the end. It wasn’t a wrong thing to consider, as Lumikki of all people would see to another Demon’s end. After all, she’s trying to consume them all and snip the ever decreasing threads of their influence on their world. Paired with her ever ingraining influence in their world, in part by her elevated status of a Guild Master, she was becoming easier to trust for such a line of work.

Tsukiko, the Kitsune in question, had been an illusive figure in these parts for a long time. One could say they’ve heard of her name for generations. In past times she was nothing more than a menace, but as of late the fox Demon was growing to be quite a threat. Her actions only growing more dangerous with time ever since the bloodshed of the civil war. One could surmise this to be the catalyst, and perhaps this is partly true, but there weren’t many means for further conclusions. Ergo Lumikki was summons to aid in the task.

Joyan no shigoto-yō tsūru o taiken suru no wa kyōmibukaideshouga, moshi watashi ga anata no mono o motomerunara, watashi wa kanojo no hotondo nani mo nokosanai tsumoridesu. Anata wa shisaidesuga, kanojo o sukuidasu hōhō ga aru to kanjitara, ima ga ninmu o kyanseru suru tokidesu.”(“ Fair enough to send a trickster Demon after another. It'll be interesting experiencing Joyan tools for the job, but know if I seek this being of yours, then I plan to leave barely anything of her left. You’re a priest, should you feel there is anyway to redeem her, then now is the time to cancel the mission.”)

”Nando mo sono-te o sashinobemashita rumikkī-sama. Imanotokoro, watashitachiha-saki ni susumi, kanojo ga jikan uchi ni karuma o shōkan suru koto o negau hitsuyō ga arimasu.”(“We have extended that hand many times Lumikki-sama. for now we need to press on and hope that she redeems herself of her karma in time.”) He nodded to himself as if he was so certain, though Lumikki wasn’t fully sure. But that was simply a difference in culture, she didn’t understand quite yet how the Gods divided their territories, but if the Yokai here were remnants of the Demonic age, then they very well adhere to the Joyan rules now.

”Hijō ni yoku,”(“Very well,”) she smirked, Lumikki was just about done with her tea then. She reached over and took the talisman, looking it over before slipping the cord over her head. Tapping her fingers on the table to signal she was done Lumikki rose, looking over to the monk one more time before heading off for her quest.

Lumikki

The full moon was high into the sky. Ravens were scattered far and wide among the fields, their eyes prying for all the information needed by their master. Usually the dark would make the tasks harder, but a mix of the strong bright and pale light and their new Daemon nature allowed their eyes to cut through the remaining darkness. So it didn’t take them more than a night to spy their target and whisper the news into their mistress’ ears.

Lumikki, eyes aglow, and waiting amid the shroud of darkness, would smirk from ear to ear. Her mouth watering at prospect of her next meal.

This quest was a delicate one, not an easy task for any mortal not quite trained in the work. The Monk providing her with the charm to ward off the illusions was but one hurtle to undergo, but an important one to succeed. The next now was to find Tsukiko in her lair and dispel the Yokai but her many years did well to make her formidable. It was not easy for one to dispatch a trickster, even if they were one themselves; but it did make for interesting fun.

And so Lumikki approached the airs of illusions. Almost like she was stepping into the Kitsune’s domain. With silent wings, Lumikki flew. Scars of the old battle field laid bare before her. The lands marked with remnants of death and destruction from the recent war but also the passing of beasts and Yokai. Nature did its best to reclaim it, vines and flowers tried to smother what remained.

Lumikki

In the depths of the fields, far past the grooves and by the mountain side, laid a cave. But one would not see it, let alone notice it. Just before its entrance was where the start of so many illusions began to be layered on. The ravages of war looked particular bleak and barren here, deterring any who ventured this far to progress any further. Lumikki chuckled, as her light feet hit the ground. Her eyes though sharp, would still be fooled by such tricks. It was not an easy task for her to piece such things, only see through veils of invisibility or through the dark. She softly thanked the monk for his work, giving a light kiss to the charm before the illusions of Tsukiko finally started to dissipate.

The debris and fauna peels away to revel a light trotted path leading to the opening of the cave. Its mouth looking like a large gash along the mountains side with a foul stench coming from inside. It was a mix of death and ruin. Perhaps the results of the Fox’s recent work but Lumikki didn’t care all that much as she began to wander inside.
