Rhea

Rhea

The midday sun filtered through the narrow windows of the lighthouse, The biting cold of Iceberg was a distant and unfamiliar embrace for the sorceress, who had hailed from a land of rainforests and consistent warm weather. And yet, this place was held a certain beauty of its own. Rhea stood at the threshold of the grand Viking structure, her breath escaping in a misty steam as she surveyed the towering ice-covered walls. Her cloak draped over her shoulders, and she had controlled the temperature just enough to keep her body warm. Whispers of the dead threaded through the air, as if the spirits themselves resented her presence. She smirked, unfazed, and only further intrigued by the mystery of this hall.

The structure was a relic from a time long forgotten, its wooden beams now crusted with frost. Her boots crunched against the frozen floor as she walked deeper inside, and her gaze assessed the building. This wasn't just some long abandoned hall; it felt alive. The icy chill within the hall was nothing like the chill of Icbergs natural climate. It was a presence, a warning. And then there were the whispers, echoing around her like the murmur of a crowd, always just out of reach.

The Supreme's fingers brushed along the frozen walls, admiring the craftsmanship. The ice glimmered in the little bit of light that peeked through the cracked windows, but it was the darkness beneath it that intrigued her. The Draugr, they said. Restless undead, angered by those who disturbed the peace of their slumber. Rhea was unfazed, however. She had never been one to shy away from a fight. If there was something to be feared, she hadn’t met it yet.

The God Hunter dagger on her waist waited to be summoned as she moved through the halls. She could feel the subtle pulse of its god-like power in tune with her heartbeat. The Stellan's mission was to find some sort of ancient relic and offer it to the Draugr before it rose from the grave. Simple enough she though. Except, of course, nothing in Iceberg was ever that simple.

"Impending doom, hm?" Rhea muttered to herself, her voice low and amused.

The hall seemed to stretch endlessly. The icy corridors winded like a maze designed to keep her trapped. Frost coated everything she touched, chilling her skin even through her gloves. The whispers grew louder, the dead brushing against her senses like cold fingers on the back of her neck. Still, she pressed on, her mind focused on the task. Somewhere in this frozen tomb lay the relic that would appease the Draugr, or so the legends claimed.

Kenzo Valens
The cold air cut against his skin, piercing a deep chill into the mercenary’s bones. He’d taken a job from a village nearby. A Draugr they said, the kind of job that only foreigners were too stupid to take. Or at least, that’s what they thought amongst themselves. Kenzo cared little for their superstition and fear of the damned, if they wanted him to find and deliver a Relic to the king of hell himself, he’d do it for the right price. Thankfully for them, the blue-haired swordsman’s pockets were quite empty at the moment, having been turned into stone for years and all that~. If they’d found him at any other time, their meager reward wouldn’t have been even enough to make him give them the time of the day.

A contemplative chuckle came unconsciously out of Kenzo as the previous line of thought crossed his mind, knowing that he would have accepted this specific job even if it paid nothing. Kenzo walked slowly and with little awareness for his surroundings, getting deep into the frozen maze before he knew it; his lost gaze was set beyond the mortal plane, far away into the treacherous lands of memories... It had been far too long since he’d been in Iceberg, but it was too late for regrets. Regret was of no use now.

As he found himself facing yet another corner, the male paused for a second and left out a light, solemn sigh. His breath materialized into fog, almost as if it tried to carry away his sadness into the sky. The mercenary remembered the countless faces of his dead comrades. Vali, his previous fellow Advent World guild member had died long ago. Kenzo knew that for a fact. Yet, what had been of his child Hasani, he didn’t. He knew there was little he could do about Vali’s death, but at the very least, Kenzo knew what being an orphan meant - the memory of the little kid’s cries through the guild hall still echoed in his ears. There were many things he had lost during his 5 years petrified in a cavern of Minstreli, the fact that he was here today was proof of his resolve to fix that. At the very least, Kenzo needed to find the truth to make peace with his consciousness.

Finally turning around the corner, he shook his head as he pushed away all other thoughts, concentrating for once in his mission. And as it often does, his timing couldn’t have been any more perfect. He was too late to make a preemptive strike, but at the very least he managed to notice the figure just around the corner in time to at least react.

Scanning the woman in an instant, he noticed she was unarmed. This could only mean two things. Either she had stumbled her way inside the icy tomb by mistake, or she was an accomplished mage, confident in her own skills. From the looks of it, he figured it was the latter. "Damn villagers, double booking me..." The male thought to himself.

Carefully rising his hands, Kenzo figured it was for the best to start by breaking the ice……

”If they’d told me the Draugr looked like this I would have come much sooner”

A half grin crossed his face as he defaulted back to his usual confident demeanor.

Rhea

The Sorceress's fingers danced lightly over the frost-veined walls, eyes resting on carvings half-buried in an inch of crystal ice. She could hardly believe the remains of an old place like this had been preserved in perfect suspension--as if Time itself had bowed to this ancient hall and didn't dare tarnish its beauty. She lost herself in speculations about who would have built it and how long it stood here--for what purpose? Something was concealed behind these frozen walls, tugging at her--secrets of some sort that drew her deeper, unresolved. Earthland had its share of bizarre wonders, but this place...this labyrinthine, ghostly relic--was something else entirely.

The sudden crunch of footsteps behind her shattered the calm, like dropped glass, and Rhea had her blade out with fluid precision before she'd so much as turned. The elf's gaze sharpened, cold as the Iceberg air as she leveled her blade toward the unexpected intruder. But there was no threat in his stance; if anything, he looked more amused than startled. Her eyes widened despite herself as he raised his hands in a universal gesture of peace, the spark of humor lighting his blue eyes as he proceeded to compliment her. She was caught off guard entirely.

Lowering her blade, The stellan let a dangerous smirk curl onto her lips as she let her eyes make a leisurely transit of him, appraising with the same attention she afforded the icy walls a moment before. Tall, toned, rugged in that roguish way that spoke to his tendency to get into fights--or frostbitten, for that matter. His features were bold, and his eyes a deep intense blue, though a bit cheeky.

Rhea tossed her snow white hair over her shoulder as she leaned into his space--just enough to let her voice drop smooth and sultry, laced with the sweet spiciness of her thick Stellan accent, "And maybe, if I'd known the men around these parts looked like you, I'd have worn less clothes." Rhea allowed herself a low, teasing chuckle. Men rarely expected her boldness, and this one looked like he could use a surprise. "Now," she said, one hand on her hip, "don't tell me you're after the same relic they told me about. Because if you are, you'll have to get in line, papi--or learn to keep up, hm?" The words were light, but a spark of challenge danced in her eyes, an invitation wrapped in humor.

Kenzo waited expectantly as he saw the stranger swiftly flash her peculiar dagger towards him. The man stood motionless, not even as much flinching as the three bladed weapon came into his range. Instead, the blue-haired man tilted his head amusedly at this display, his lips curling into a confident smirk that could be interpreted as an invitation to slash his throat. Kenzo hated getting double booked, it was one of the worst things an employer could do in his eyes; especially since this meant they’d given Kenzo double the work now. Deal with the request, and deal with his competition. Luckily for him, it appeared that this time the extra work might be worth the trouble.

The mercenary’s eyes were drawn instantly to the elf’s ethereal gaze. As she tossed her snow-white hair over her shoulder, Kenzo couldn’t help but marvel at how “at” place she looked inside these icy halls. Yet, it was her sun kissed skin that perfectly contrasted against the halls that made her stand out even more, drawing his attention like a magnet. Her slender, toned figure complimented perfectly her sultry tone. Her accent was familiar to him, bringing back memories of Mzuma the Stellan whom Kenzo had fought with back once in Bosco.

It was evident from just this first impression that the woman herself was far more dangerous on appearance alone than the sharp blade she brandished.

”Keh-“ Kenzo snickered, caught off guard by her comment. Trying not to burst into an amused chuckle, he quickly regained his composure before teasing her back.

”I’m afraid if you wore any less clothes we’d have to find a way to warm you up quickly, lest anything too serious happens” The male rose an eyebrow with a satisfied smile, the sharp fangs of his external jaw glistened in the light reflected by the ice halls.

”Believe me when I say I’m as disappointed as you are… I’ve never enjoyed having to split quest rewards in half. Seems like they played a quick one on both of us.”

Kenzo shrugged as he crossed both arms above his chest, his tone evidently pissed at the current situation. And yet, it was always in situations like these when opportunity struck. His instincts flared for an instant as a realization came to him. While Kenzo couldn’t have known that the woman was as accomplished as he was, owning to his lack of knowledge of recent affairs in Fiore, something about her made him believe they could pull it off together. The spark of greed lit his aquamarine eyes. If all went well, the two of them would earn even more money than either could’ve hoped for.

”What do you say we get back at them? It seems like the monster won’t go back to sleep unless we deliver its teddy bear of a relic or something. I’m sure they won’t have a need for such an old artifact if the draugr is no longer around to need to be appeased.” The implication in his proposal was risky, but he liked few things more than a fun gamble. A mischievous smile appeared on his visage unconsciously.

For a member of a light guild like Blue Pegasus, Kenzo had spent dubious amounts of time dealing in the more shady sides of business. If the rumors he’d heard were true, the relic they were set to deliver to the draugr promised to fetch an unbelievable price that’d far eclipse the quest’s reward. It was now all a matter of whether the stranger would accept his proposal.

Rhea

Rhea watched him with a look of amused appraisement, her eyes narrowing only just as Kenzo's mischievous smirk oozed out onto his face. Well, this was an entertaining development. The man in front of her was a far cry from the run-of-the-mill hired hand, treading with slick confidence and an air of devil-may-care that was somewhat appealing. His audacity made her reconsider him, and she cocked an eyebrow as his proposal settled within her mind.

She took a step closer, her blade lowered but her stance still guarded. Her voice softened, though there was a glint of steel beneath her words. “Ah, so you’re one of those,” she said with a slow, sly smile. “A bad boy out here to make a quick fortune and hoping I’d agree to get my hands a little dirty with you, hm?"

There was no doubt she would play along, if only for the fun of it, an amused smirk that tugged at her lips said so much.

Rhea stopped, then was eying him with a brief, speculative glance. The last thing in the world a mercenary deserved--especially one she had just met--was her trust, honed by years of cautious survival. Yet something in Kenzo made her curious. With a beat, she relented, allowing her blade to slide with flair back into its sheath. "Fine," she said, her tone smooth almost purring, as she stepped beside him. "But just this once. You better be worth the trouble, Kenzo."

Rhea's gaze lingered upon him for a moment, and an unreadable expression ghosted across her face as she took in the icy eyes of the blue-haired bad boy. The hallways were eerily quiet save for the muffled crackling of ice shifting on stone to remind them of the other presence lingering in these walls. Her breath misted in the air as one brow rose, smirking. "You seem oddly familiar, like I've seen your face somewhere." she said, her voice taking on that rare warmth, even while a hint of playful mistrust clung in.

"Hm..." The elf turned with her heel and began to make her way down the corridor, giving sidelong look over her shoulder, her smile faint and teasing. "Anyway, we should get going. Try to keep up, will you?" she said in voice low and velvet, laced with challenge. "I'd hate to see you get lost out here after coming so far." A dare for him to impress her as she began to move forward.

Kenzo couldn’t help but grin with amusement as he heard the woman lump him with those kind of people. It was something the mercenary had grown accustomed to, considering his merry-go-lucky demeanor and general penchant for being overconfident, it was easy to cast such a judgement of character about him on a first impression. In a sense, he couldn’t quite deny that she was right though, considering he had always been first and foremost a mercenary out for a quick coin. For that reason, he found no offense in her words; on the contrary, they were nothing but an invitation. A challenge, some might say. The kind the warrior enjoyed the most.

With an audible chuckle, the male placed both hands behind his head at her words, painting the sight of the overconfident, arrogant person she surely thought him to be. Casting a challenging smile, the amused warrior examined the young woman once again before answering.

”Ah, but that’s where you’re wrong, you see.” The man’s voice was followed with a playful confidence and a single step that put him closer into her unsheathed blade. “I’ve left those days behind so long ago.” Kenzo’s tone softened, driving home his words as he made his defense. ”Some might even say I’m part of the good ones now.” The man waited for a second as the girl finally put her blade away, satisfied with her agreeance.

”Besides.” Kenzo finished as he lowered his arms. ”I’m sure you’ve never met someone like me before” The man flashed a cheeky grin as he extended his arm towards her, signaling the beginning of their temporary partnership.

”I’ll make sure you don’t regret it.”

With their introduction now out of the way, it was now a simple matter of dealing with the draugr and finding the relic. The man didn’t mind the company, considering the kind of place they found themselves in. Kenzo was confident he could deal with anything that threatened their lives. However, the fact that he couldn’t cast any magic was always a handicap when it came to magical places such as this. Tombs in particular had a habit of being full of magical traps and other assorted trickery after all.

Moving alongside his new companion, the two of them began making their way down the corridor, resuming their search. They hadn’t even taken a couple of steps when the girl posed a tricky question. The warrior tilted his head to a side, taking a pause as he wondered how to answer. It wasn’t an easy one of course, considering it’d been a long time since he’d last stepped foot in Fiore and didn’t know if people still remembered him. There were multiple things the woman could have recognized him from though, given the reputation he’d garnered throughout the time he was active in the country.

Perhaps she’d seen him win at the Grand Magic Games all those years ago? Or maybe she knew of his exploits as Advent World’s Guild Master? Maybe she knew him from his time in Blue Pegasus? Heck… he’d even had the biggest bounty in the country at one point too. The swordsman didn’t know the woman’s affiliation, so the metaphorical game of minesweeper could jeopardize their newborn and uneasy alliance if he unwittingly stepped on a bomb.

”Hmm…” He finally hummed as he shrugged his shoulders.

”I honestly doubt it… It’s been far too long since I left the country” He opted to answer nonchalantly, giving away a vague reply with no trace of any other emotion behind, deciding it was better this way for now.

”As you command boss” Kenzo playfully continued at her final remarks, trying to avoid any follow up to the previous topic. The mercenary trailed behind her as she took the lead, implicitly designing herself as the leader of the expedition. Kenzo was all too happy to oblige. Even if they walked side by side, he preferred not giving his back to strangers if he could help it, physically and metaphorically speaking.

Following along, the male stood silent for a second as he saw her take them towards a corridor he’d already explored. He’d spent a while here after all, and thanks to the power of his eye he had thoroughly discarded any hidden passages in that general direction. As they crossed the point of no return, Kenzo finally decided to speak his mind, reasoning that she’d yet to come to the same realization as him.

”Erm… I’m sure you definitely know boss, but there’s a dead end at the end of this corridor.” Kenzo spoke as he pointed out in front of them, a sly smile crossed his lips before he continued. ”I’d hate to see you get lost out there after all…”
