Tsukishima Higurashi
Tsukishima stood on the outskirts of Aldenwald, where a thick fog clung to the twisted, towering trees like a shroud over secrets that were best left hidden. Tales of missing villagers and brutal ambushes had filtered back to Dahlia, filling its streets with unease. Fear pulsed through the town, drawing murmurs of panic from the elders and whispers of blood-soaked vendettas from the young. The residents of Dahlia had turned to someone, anyone, who could quell the violence threatening to plunge the area into absolute chaos. Tsukishima was eager to accept.

The mission was no simple task, divided into two urgent objectives. His first directive was to eliminate the rogue vampires who had taken up residence in Aldenwald’s depths, wild and unrestrained in their thirst. These vampires lacked the discipline, akin to mindless creatures tearing through the forest, igniting a war with the lycans that bordered its edges. His second task was to deal with any creatures who had succumbed to bloodlust beyond reason and indiscriminately attacked both vampire and human alike. But as Tsukishima moved deeper into the forest, he began to feel a strange surge within him. It was subtle, foreign power stirring in his veins. His senses were sharper, the faintest scents and sounds now pulled into his awareness as if the forest was speaking to him in an unspoken language. He was beginning to grasp that, due to Lucian’s magical influence during the ritual, he wasn’t just an ordinary vampire. Though he had lost his magic, Tsukishima was evolving, his new vampiric nature manifesting in ways he hadn’t expected. The boundaries of his power were growing hazy, blending his former skills with newfound abilities, awakening a dark, complex connection to his surroundings. He couldn’t ignore the gradual acceptance forming in him. He was no longer the lich who had commanded the forces of the King of demons; he was now something more, something altered. The realization was as intoxicating as it was unsettling and he was beginning to embrace it.

Tsukishima Higurashi
As Tsukishima moved deeper into the dense heart of Aldenwald, he detected the unmistakable scent of fresh blood, metallic and thick on the cool night air. He followed it, moving like a shadow between the towering trees, until he came upon a clearing illuminated by a sliver of moonlight. There, a group of young vampires huddled around the mutilated body of a werewolf. They tore into the body with primal, frenzied abandon. Their faces were smeared with blood, eyes glinting with the kind of raw hunger that only the newly turned seemed to feel so deeply. They were oblivious to his approach, too engrossed in their feast to sense the threat that had crept into their midst. The fledglings were no seasoned predators; they were cast-offs, abandoned by a master that had no interest in training or guiding them. Left to fend for themselves, they’d become feral. Akin to little more than rabid animals incapable of restraint. But Tsukishima knew well enough that their wild, unchecked nature made them dangerous, a threat he could not leave loose in Aldenwald less he lose his payday.

As he stepped into the clearing, his blades at the ready, one of the fledglings looked up, blood trickling down his chin. His gaze fixed on Tsukishima, and he let out a low, snarling laugh. “Look who’s wandered into the wrong forest,” he sneered, baring his fangs. “We were just starting to feel hungry again.” Another fledgling, a young woman whose eyes gleamed with a manic light, laughed as she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “What’s this? Another thinking they can boss us around? You may smell different but I can tell you’re still one of us. You’re no better.

Tsukishima regarded them coolly, his grip tightening on the hilts of his new daggers. Gifts. Courteous of the bandit he drained and the money he obtained from the grateful shopkeepers. “Leave,” he said quietly, his voice edged with steel. The lead fledgling, emboldened by the others’ laughter, spat on the ground between them. “You think you’re something special? We’re the real hunters here.” Tsukishima said nothing, instead letting his silence hang heavy in the air. And then he struck, his main-hand dagger flashing through the dim light as he closed the distance between them in a heartbeat. The blade connected with the leader’s side, and a strange lethargy began to seep through the fledgling’s body, his movements slowing as though time itself had thickened around him.

W-What the…” The fledgling stumbled back, his arms moving sluggishly, as if he were wading through water. Tsukishima’s off-hand dagger plunged into his shoulder, a look of shocked realization dawning on the fledgling’s face as he felt his vitality begin to slip, his own life force siphoning away with each shallow breath. The young woman screamed, rushing at Tsukishima with a look of pure fury. “Monster! I’ll kill you!” she shrieked, her claws outstretched. But Tsukishima sidestepped her wild attack, twisting to drive his main-hand dagger into her side. The effect was instantaneous, her movements grew slow and labored, her body reacting as if under the weight of a heavy curse. She staggered, her wide eyes locking onto his eyes in fear.

No... this can’t be…” she gasped, shivering as she tried to lift her arms. Tsukishima’s off-hand blade followed, slicing a line across her collarbone. Her skin grew pale as the blade drained her life, drawing her closer to death with every shallow cut. The remaining fledglings looked on in horror, realizing too late the mistake they’d made. “Run!” one of them cried, turning to flee, but Tsukishima was faster. With graceful, deadly precision, he reached the next one in a flash, his main dagger carving a deep line down the fledgling’s arm. The vampire froze, his muscles betraying him, his movements reduced to a desperate, sluggish attempt to defend himself. Tsukishima’s off-hand dagger found its mark, sinking into the fledgling’s heart with a final, quieting blow.

Tsukishima Higurashi
The last fledgling dropped to his knees, his pale, trembling form illuminated by the cold light filtering through the trees. Blood streaked his face, and his eyes locked onto Tsukishima’s with a desperate, pleading look. “Please…” he gasped, his voice barely above a whisper. “We were just… trying to survive. He told us it would be safe here… that no one would find us. We thought we’d be able to…” Tsukishima studied the fledgling’s face, seeing a glimmer of fear that went beyond the hunger and brutality he had just witnessed.

These young vampires, abandoned to their own devices, had clung to the promise of safety, following the orders of someone who had lured them here with lies. Yet Tsukishima knew the danger they posed, and sparing them would only invite more chaos into Aldenwald. Their actions had already sparked conflict, and survival would only embolden this fledgling to fall back into his vicious instincts, driven by a bloodlust beyond his control. Tsukishima hesitated for a brief moment, considering the desperation in the young vampire’s eyes. But he knew that sparing them would only bring further chaos and destruction upon these woods. The fledgling would likely return to his feral ways, emboldened by survival rather than remorse.

Tsukishima Higurashi
The fledgling’s eyes widened, a tremor of understanding flitting across his gaze. With a swift, final motion, Tsukishima’s main-hand dagger plunged into the fledgling’s chest. The young vampire’s form shuddered as the dagger’s strange, slowing power took hold, dulling his reflexes and leaving him in a state of quiet submission. As the fledgling sagged forward, Tsukishima’s off-hand dagger followed, slicing precisely to sever the last vestiges of life from his form. As silence reclaimed the clearing, Tsukishima wiped his blades clean, the dark energy within him humming with an intensity he could no longer ignore. The daggers had affected these fledglings with an eerie potency, their powers synchronized with his own vampiric nature in ways he had never anticipated. The fledgling’s last words echoed in his mind. “He told us it would be safe here.” Someone had led these fledglings into the heart of Aldenwald, filling their heads with promises of safety and control, knowing full well they would unleash havoc upon the forest. Whoever had manipulated them had used them as disposable pawns, casting them aside to test the delicate balance of power in these woods.

Tsukishima’s gaze hardened as he surveyed the fallen fledglings around him. These young vampires hadn’t been the true threat. They were mere instruments of something, or someone, far more calculating. Sheathing his daggers, he felt the forest’s stillness settle around him as he braced himself to delve further into its depths. Somewhere in Aldenwald’s labyrinth of fog and shadow, the one who had lured these fledglings here with false assurances was waiting, watching. And Tsukishima intended to find them, to put an end to their twisted games before they could turn Aldenwald into a battleground drenched in blood.
