Ever since the issue with that Jessica woman had been resolved, Ko had been anticipating another job along the same lines from Alice. In fact, it was odd that she hadn't come to him with something by now. It had been her protege Rebecca that approached him about the issue with the rumors, after all. Regardless, she'd found out about his involvement somehow, as he couldn't think of any other reason why she'd send him on such a similar errance. Really, that Jessica woman had been an utter idiot. Her fabrication of those rumors had made her into a target, and unnecessarily at that. After all, as soon as this latest production had been announced, Alice had approached him about ensuring that she got the leading role by convincing the Director. Directly. It was exactly the sort of thing Jessica had been spreading about in her rumors, and yet she hadn't used a single real incident to back herself up. Maybe if she had, she'd still be alive. Regardless, now Ko found himself standing outside the Director's office, running through his own mind about how to approach the issue. Most likely, asking politely wasn't going to work. He'd still do so, of course, but there was no way the Director would fold that easily. That meant that Ko was going to have to get physical, but he couldn't make it obvious. Even now, as he prepared himself mentally outside the man's room, there were actors and stage hands moving about that could easily get caught up in the 'discussion'. Not to mention, injuring the Director could harm the production itself. Ko would have to take this slow and careful. Entering the Director's office, Ko immediately took notice of the big thug standing next to the Director's desk, looking like he was itching to punch something. Immediately, Ko realized this might be both harder and simpler than he initially thought. That bodyguard definitely acted as a barrier to getting at the Director, but he also served as an excellent threatening tool. Ko had to repress his own grin. "I recognize you." The Director spoke first. "You're that boy Alice has been bringing around. What do you need?" 368/300 |

"I'd like to ask that Alice be given the leading role in your upcoming production." The Director laughed in a chortling manner that got under Ko's skin. It was clear he wasn't taking Ko's request seriously, even before the Director waved him away without a word. Instead of obeying Ko took a very deliberate step forward. "I insist." That brought the Director up short, and he frowned in Ko's direction. After a brief moment, the Director looked at the bodyguard and motioned at Ko. "Escort this young man out of my office." He was speaking politely, but it was clear he didn't intend for the bodyguard to be gentle. With a sadistic grin, the bodyguard walked forward, and reached out to put a hand on Ko's shoulder to force him outside. Before his hand made contact, Ko reached up and grabbed the bodyguard arm at the wrist. Immediately they locked eyes, and a back and forth struggle began. Though it was irritating to admit, the man was stronger than Ko. He was making an effort, but it was taking most of Ko's strength to hold the bodyguard back. Eventually, Ko dropped the pretense of their struggle and released his grip, while at the same time surging his head forward. Ko's forehead slammed into the other man's nose, immediately eliciting a sick crunch. The Bodyguard stumbled backwards quickly, stunned but impressively still mobile. Ko surmised that the man might actually be more agile than himself as well. Too bad for him that Ko had other resources than just his physical abilities. Before the Bodyguard could fully recover, magic seals formed beneath Ko's feet, suddenly jolting him forward towards his foe. Clearly not expecting his opponent to be a Mage, the Bodyguard brought his hands up into a fighting stance, barely blocking the punch heading towards his broken nose. Unfortunately for the Bodyguard, that left his body uncovered, and Ko took advantage with seasoned viciousness. His fists slammed into the Bodyguard's liver and lower ribs, forcing the Bodyguard's breath out of his body. Recklessly, he retaliated, a wild elbow strike slamming into the side of Ko's face and splitting his cheek open. It didn't even slow Ko down. With a wide-eyed grin across his face, Ko kept the pressure on the Bodyguard, throwing wild attacks that his opponent could defend against but gave no room for retaliation. 370/300 |

Eventually, the Bodyguard got slower, and Ko was able to make a decisive move. With some clever footwork, Ko slipped his leg behind his opponent's while pressing forward, throwing the bodyguard off balance. The man's bloodied face clearly showed fear as Ko pressed his advantage, grabbing the man's shoulder and throwing him down bodily, pinning the bodyguard to the floor. With his opponent at his mercy, Ko let his fist rain down on the man, the dull thud of flesh against flesh filling the Director's office. At some point, the bodyguard had started whimpering something, but Ko couldn't hear him. Finally, Ko had to stop, his breathing ragged, knuckles bloodied. The bodyguard's face was a mess of blood and broken skin, eyes swollen shut and teeth broken. Standing up, Ko decided killing the man would be going to far. He took a moment to straighten his clothes before looking back up at the Director. The man had sat silently the entire time, watching in growing horror as Ko systematically destroyed his well paid bodyguard. He was about to start bargaining for his life when Ko spoke again. "Once again, I must ask you to award Alice the leading role." The look on Ko's face as he spoke allowed no argument, but he still continued. "I insist." The grin on his face pleaded with the Director to argue further. Of course, he did no such thing. He returned to Alice's dressing room with the good news. The moment she saw the blood on his face and knuckles, her typically haughty expression paled, and if Ko wasn't mistaken she seemed honestly scared of him for a moment. It was funny; he'd already murdered someone in this Theater with his own hands, for her, but this was what made her blanch. It was such a shame. She really did look beautiful when she was this pale. 313/300 1051/1000 |
