Ko has done a lot of things he wasn't proud of. Some of them involved misdeeds that were his own responsibility, while others were things required of him by employers. In all of these cases Ko never turned away from his own part in those situations. In this case, however, Ko couldn't quite believe just how twisted this entire situation had gotten. It had all started with that damn letter he'd been instructed to leave in Alice's dressing room. Rebecca had intended for it to curb Alice's overwhelming influence over the theater, and by extension, Rebecca herself. Whether it had worked as intended or not Ko didn't know; all he knew was that afterwards he'd received a message demanding his presence from Alice. He'd been reticent, especially after their previous encounter had ended so oddly, but he was even more unsettled when he learned why she wanted him. The letter had apparently not been the first one she'd received. In fact, she'd been receiving several such letters, all from the same man: Shon Bermer. From her descriptions he sounded like a man who had little social experience. It certainly didn't seem unlikely for the letter to have come from him, although Ko had to struggle not to admit that this was not the case. For Alice to assume Shon was at fault for the threatening letter, either Rebecca had purposely written it to seem that way, or Shon was already toeing close to threatening in his letters anyway. Either way, Alice wanted Ko to make sure Shon knew his place and stopped sending her letters. If she'd asked him to kill the man, Ko might have actually refused until she knew the truth. It would have damaged his working relationship with the two women, but even Ko had a sense of integrity. As it was, she only wanted him roughed up. Ko could live with that. 316/300 |

The bar Ko was eventually directed towards to find Shon was familiar to him, embarrassingly enough. If Ko was honest, that was probably true of most of the pubs in town. He'd taken up a habit of rotating after getting into a little too much trouble in one of them and getting banned. This particular bar, Madam's Organ, was a mixed bag as far as he was concerned. Thankfully, he wasn't here for a drink. He was here to work. He hadn't even reached the bar before he spotted his mark. The man was exactly how Alice had described: a veritable whale on land. Most people would likely have immediately pegged him as a pushover after seeing that, but Ko knew better. A man that big didn't just have a lot of weight to throw around, he also had a fair amount of durability simply by virtue of the thick padding he was carrying around. If he knew how to throw a proper punch he could probably hurt Ko pretty badly as well. Too bad for Shon, Ko knew exactly how to handle bigger enemies. Of course, there was no guarantee this was going to end in a throw down, but Ko was fairly certain that was exactly how it was going to end. After all, Shon was the sort of weird, obsessive freak who sent love letters to a woman he'd never met or so much as exchanged a kind word with. Sure enough, when Ko approached and called him by name, Shon was utterly oblivious to what he might be getting called on for. As soon as Ko brought up Alice's name, Shon starting going off about her endearing qualities like he was some kind of disgusting poet. Ko put a stop to that immediately. All it took was a few words about the letter and him needing to back off before Shon started getting worked up and aggressive. He denied everything, loudly, proclaiming his love for Alice and continuing to assert that he'd only ever sent a few love letters. Ko couldn't help himself. "I know. Too bad for you, witless men like you make for easy fall guys." 347/300 |

Things devolved into violence pretty quickly after that. Specifically, right after that. Ko had barely finished speaking before Shon let out a groan(?) of rage, trying to charge at Ko and send a meaty fist his way. Although Shon was slow, he easily plowed through the small crowd that had gathered during their little confrontation, which gave Ko a good gauge for both the kind of weight and the kind of strength Shon was throwing around. It definitely wasn't insignificant. So of course, Ko decided to even the playing field. After backing off a few meters, Ko paused to enter a fighting stance, letting his magic seep into his muscles and embolden him. In the time it took for the buff to settle in, Shon finally closed the distance, only to be surprised when Ko not only stopped his forward momentum but blocked his oversized fist. It wouldn't have been impossible otherwise, but Ko was actually stronger than Shon now. For the next several minutes, Ko began to methodically dismantle Shon. The behemoth sized man was not a combat veteran in any sense of the word; he wasn't even slightly talented either. Ko ran circles around him with ease, to the point he almost felt bad. Almost. The fact that Shon could still actually hurt him if he managed to land a hit still gave Ko quite the thrill. It felt like he was playing some kind of rhythmn game, dodging Shon's wildly telegraphed swings while dashing in to get off a few strikes of his own before backing out. It was surprisingly good fun. All good fun has to come to an end eventually, however. Before long, Shon was winded and tired, bruises forming unseen all along his fat belly, while Ko was still running strong. Seeing his chance, Ko took a vicious lunge at Shon's legs, slamming his shin right into the side of Shon's dominant leg. With his weight pressing down on it, the knee buckled immediately and Shon went tumbling down, where Ko was ready to meet him. Hit after hit rained on Shon's face until the already corpulent flesh was swollen even more with bruising. He hardly even had to tell Shon to keep his distance before the man was agreeing to everything he had to say. Alice didn't even bother calling him in to give him his payment in person. It just showed up via courier a few days later. At least it was a load off his mind at last. 417/300 1080/1000 |
