While the Survivors had the same memories and appearances as their original counterparts, they were not the same. The Survivors on the Island were in fact creatures composed out of Ethernano. Upon perishing, the strongest Ethernano beings would return to their original counterparts while the weaker ones would fade away entirely. They were all considered failures by the Master. Only the last surviving being would be able to ascend while releasing most of the Ethernano from their counterpart. In order to trigger one of them into ascension, the Master needed to create the right conditions such as forcing them to face death countless times in a row. With each game, the beings were pushed to ascend by the Master. Now, with the games completed, one of them had finally ascended. As the last Survivor came out of the exit of the maze, he was no longer the same. He was no longer a copy of his counterpart. He had ascended into something greater. Something that could leave the Island. "Welcome, Mae.," the Master said cheerfully. Masami's Ethernano had mostly disappeared from Mae's body and returned to the original Masami, while the twisted and newly composed Ethernano that was accumulated on the island remained in Mae. The original Masami was going to remember the events of Island in a dream, however, since he was never here in the first place, he would never be sure if it happened or not. Such was also the case for the other Survivors that made it to the final seven. Masami's dream would end with him walking through the exit of the maze because the one walking out of the exit was no longer Masami. The Master extended his hand towards Mae for him to hold it and follow him. |

Masa- no, he was not Masami. As he walked out of the exit, he began to doubt himself. The memories were there, but he realized that they were not his own memories. He carefully observed his fingers and hands to find out what had happened. Suddenly, he heard a voice calling out to him. Mae? He liked the sound of that. Mae. Mae then realized that the Master was holding out his hand to him, so he quickly ran over and held it tightly. So this was what it felt like to born anew, he thought as he disappeared with the Master. |
