Noel invited the person in - the union boss, who found Noel laying on his bed with a really weird angle didn't look surprised when he found him in this state. He knew of his antics. The union chief began explaining the problem they were facing to Noel. About how their position on the market might have monopolized some goods; at least it was perceived this way by the law. The union boss looked quite worried about the impact. By now he represented sixty full time employees. They started out with five just a few weeks ago. The growth would have outpaced them were it not for how the union was composed.

Noel was starting to understand the complicated situation a little bit more over time. His hangover was impacting his ability to critically think; he couldn't judge the situation properly. He let the union leader know this, and invited him for a coffee at the bar. An Icebergian coffee; something a friend from his former guild had learned him to appreciate. The glass has a tall neck, and they gush in a finger of whiskey among with some other obscurities.
Noel put on a shirt and brushed his teeth while his guest waited in the lobby of the hotel. He quickly put on his pants and run downstairs where he'd meet the chief at the bar seats. By signaling with his hand, the Blue Pegasi mage let it be known to the barman that he wanted a drink; and then he ordered two Icebergian coffees. Popular to contrary belief, they were not served cold. The boss of the union explained the situation again to Noel. This time, his brain, his engine - it was given enough fuel to start. It stalled though, so after a few more seconds and a big gulp of his icebergian coffee it finally was kick started. His ability to critically judge a situation in a ruthless business man fashion was making its way back in to the room.

Noel didn't know, of course - the union leader happily agreed to the number Noel was requesting to aid them in this task. As soon as the autograph was set, Noel began rattling like a gattling gun shouting off ideas and different stratagems - modus operandi and tactics. Their first option, as described as Noel as being a power move, truly was one. They could go rogue - discard their losses from the loss of the innovation bond; up their prices to make up for the difference. Though hypothetically, this could be an elaborate attack on the company funded by the aristocrats. They may have overbought to make a supply; giving their customers only ten percent of what they buy to be able to supply them for a couple of months. Why? Noel waited for his half up front - a custom he's grown ever since taking requests from outside sources.

He then went on to explain the consequences of option two, according to his own interpretation. Only raising their price to match inflation is quite outrageous; the aristocrats were very likely inflating their prices - as they most likely shared the monopoly that the union was accused of. Which very well could be used against them - though in that case, like with option one, it'd mean that their prices were to be locked down as well. Mutual destruction. Of course, for the aristocrats this business was growing in its prevalence. And rather fast; partially due to their own influence and wealth. 'Too big to fail', the company hadn't quite reached that status - but those aristocrats certainly had. They could take a financial hit if that could mean massive financial gains in the long term. Noel ordered another icebergian coffee while talking with the union leader. Since it was clear that they were going to be in this lobby for quite a while, he decided to also order breakfast. A simple Joyan breakfast; rice in a bowl and a side of oil fried sardines.

Instead of directly representing them in court, Noel gave information that the union leader was going to be able to use to form a strategy against this obvious attack on their interests. His only goal was the growth of his company and financial stability. Though to get through these first phases of financial security; one had to thread a more rocky path that ultimately led them to this security. If they went with option one and decided their own prices, they could start marking their products with their own mark. Given that they organize the wholesale of their goods in house. Where they have control.

If they preferred the alternative, the second choice then they could adopt another strategy where they change the products that they create while upholding the good reputation of the business. Switch from watches to earrings for example - if it was an industry which already had a small representation of supply than this was even better. With the quality of their goods, and the idea of locally made means better, they should recover pretty quickly from these sanctions composed by the local government. They were likely being controlled by the aristocrats anyway. Noel was quite cynical, so he didn't doubt this. The union leader wasn't sure about this plan and wanted to bring in someone else to ask for their opinion on Noels take. This was going to take a bit to organize, so Noel proposed to the union leader that they have a walk towards the aristocrats that were their loyal customers. The adviser of the union leader joined them a few minutes later, of course Noel had paid for the tab at the hotel lobby. Noel re-explained his story in a more organized manner to the other advisor of the union leader. He was quite entertained by the ideas that Noel had come up. Their ideas were much more defensive than what Noel thought of.

After reading the entire gospel of legalyse, Noel threw his head back and stared off into the distance. He adviced the union leader to go with option one, break out of the innovation bond and start developing other products - ask to reacquire the innovation based on those other products; this way they would still be able to use a part of this budget to expand their business and build financial power. If the aristocrats stop buying their supply, start marking their new goods with their own brand and market it to a wide audience that this has changed in order to devaluate the stored produce that the aristocrats are most likely keeping to themselves as a trump card. They shouldn't allow them to manipulate the business direction of their union. It obviously tried to gain as much profit as it could, while the workers are happy. The union leader took Noels advice, and a few days later returned at the hotel lobby to talk about the outcome of his decision and what impact it had in the real world.

Their legal laws concerning trade weren't lax, or very strict either. What those companies wanted assurance; due to a lack of legal laws concerning trade in other places they were living in insecurity. While if you traded in Myras, your limitations as a company were much clearer - allowing craft people to find loopholes more easily. Not Noel though, not this time. His advice paid off quite well, and the union leader gave him the other half of the bag at the end of the week. He was quite confident they were going to meet again.
