DEVILS MAY CRY
Nana could not be certain of what was about to happen to her. At one moment, she was standing within the confined city of Oak. It was a typical day and she was going about to reassure several vendors and stores within the city that Eternal Nightmare was still present. Of course along with that presence, came 'protection' and with the protection of a major dark guild, came a fee. It was difficult to operate a large guild without currency after all. She had just finished her rounds after about fifteen visits. She was mindful of her shadow as well, her newly appointed pupil from her own master. Erebus had disappeared mysteriously and that left Nana to fill the large shoes that he left behind. Nana was fortunate to have her pupil however. It helped to keep her grounded with a sense of belonging and responsibility in the guild. "Next we will visit some lands on the outskirt of the-" she would begin to say but trail off quickly. She had directed her words to Vivi and the sudden silence would likely alert her pupil that something was amiss. Before the two women, was a barren street. There was no sound, people or livestock. Only a white fog that seemed to envelope the two women before they had fully registered it within their minds. It was a process unlike anything Nana had experienced. On one hand, it felt like an instant process of the fog enveloping both of them. On the other hand, it felt that time had passed much slower- almost painfully so. Then, the fog was gone and their surroundings were changed. The landscape before them was filled with dilapidated buildings. This was not Oak, or at least not 'their' Oak. Everything felt wrong here, dark dangerous and oddly quiet. Nana turned on her heels and looked directly at Vivi to ensure that she was still there. "It seems we have been transported somewhere, Vivi-chan... Where, I cannot say. The place seems quite dangerous however." she would say once she was certain Vivi was still with her. The daemon woman willed her pistols to her hands, but nothing happened. "Can you use your axe? My magic pistols won't appear." she would say in a low voice and look about cautiously. The two women were standing in a street. Many buildings were nearby and Nana even caught a glimpse of humans rushing across a different street up ahead. Then, she heard a sound in the silence. Large repetitive thuds. Footsteps.. they sound deliberate and coming closer. she thought to herself as her eyes scanned the nearby buildings. "Be silent and quick.. Some manner of large being is coming closer." she would instruct to Vivi. It was a rare thing to see Nana cautious... Or even quiet. She would wave her hand to a door on the left and move in that direction. WC-483 WC Total-???

DEAD BY DAYLIGHT: SILENT VILL [NANA & VIVI]

She paid attention to Nana's every word, but felt the shift in atmosphere just when she did too. Looking around in surprise, she was unsure of just what had changed. It was like a chill had come over the air and the entire street felt like it was a few degrees off. She clenched her hands into tight fists and looked around for any kind of reason behind the change. It wasn't just the street though. When Nana explained, Vivi began to see it too. They weren't where they were before, they'd been pulled into an entirely new city it seemed like. The buildings were different, the air smelled strange, and the sky looked totally odd.
She reached for her axe, but she couldn't find it on her back. She grasped at empty air, confused and concerned. "No, I do not think so," She told Nana. "I think we have been disarmed entirely." She couldn't figure out where her weapon had gone, but her disquieted mind was set right when Nana informed her that they were being stalked. That was something she hadn't picked up on. Going quiet, she followed her teacher towards the door and pushed it open as quietly as she could so they could enter.

DEVILS MAY CRY
The fact that Vivi's physical axe hadn't traversed to this new location with them, led Nana to reinforce her previous assumption and wholly agree with Vivi's statement about being completely disarmed. Not just their weapons, but their magic as well. The two women were essentially average human beings without magic- commoners and cannon fodder alike. They were vulnerable. Nana knew this immediately. With Vivi's assistance, the two women slid into a nearby door and shut it quietly, hoping whatever was coming closer, would pass them by. The wise and experienced Daemon woman wished to take no chances however. Staying in one position for too long would inevitably welcome disaster. By the time the shadow at the door loomed close, Nana would have attempted to pull Vivi away from the entrance and up a flight of stairs. The building the two women had entered, was a multistoried building. Six floors or so. They had entered on the bottom floor and front door. Nana would guide Vivi to the next floor and then up to the third floor. The stairwell itself was curved and open in the center like a column. With this, the two women would be able to peer down two floors to bear witness to their pursuer by the time the loud footsteps and overbearing shadowy figure would burst through the front door. It was unlike anything Nana had ever seen, or imagined. A walking horror with a gruesome melee weapon- a cleaver as long as the hulking horror was tall. Quite tall even by Nana and Vivi's standards. "I don't know what it is or what is going on, but it is definitely tracking us. It is slow. We must stay ahead and choose our paths wisely." she would say to Vivi, hoping her pupil wasn't shook too badly. Nana too was unnerved, but she wouldn't show it. It was important to stay calm and rational. "I saw some humans towards the southern streets. Possibly they know of a safe place and we can find answers there. A church was their destination I believe." she would say and prompt Vivi onward down the long hallway of the third floor. She wasn't about to lose her precious student to some unexplained horror. She watched in silence with Nana while they ascended, and when the door was shattered to splinters she was shocked by what she saw. A monster unlike anything she had ever witnessed before. It was no beast or mutant, it was definitely a humanoid enough being to show intelligence, and that monstrous cleaver spoke to that too with an ability to use tools on display. She wouldn't go so far as to call it a man, but it was close enough that she knew she needed to be wary of it.
Vivi took Nana by the arm instead and pulled her towards the hall. "Well then, we should forget about stealth," She told her. "If it was good enough to hear us moving about that quietly before then I am sure it will not mind hearing us stomp about as we run. I suggest we head to the rooftops, at least there we may outrun it."

Nana wholeheartedly agreed with Vivi's assessment and wise decision. While the building itself was large with many floors, there was no guarantee that the upper floors would have an escape route. Or worse, be too far up for them to leap to another nearby roof without falling to their deaths. She nodded silently to Vivi as the reflection of this pyramid head monster began to ascend the stairs. It was as if the creature knew exactly where they were despite their prudent decision making and stealth. As Vivi tugged on her, she remembered that they needed to run. Like Vivi, her body itched for the fight at hand. With Vivi's tug though, her body moved in unison with her mind. To keep moving, was to survive. Fortunately they had stopped on the third floor and that was parallel with the other rooftops. Nana reached for a nearby window and pried it open. The dry rotted wood gave way easily enough and the window fell to the ground and shattered. It wasn't like anyone else would care- if anyone else was still alive. The two women would head Southwest however towards the people Nana had witnessed. Out Nana jumped onto the ledge and leaped over to the next rooftop. She would point to the steeple of a church a few buildings down. "Let's head there." she would say and began to dash across the rooftops, Vivi near behind. WC-237 WC Total-1,093

"Right...to the church." She stood up and followed Nana, jumping across the rooftops and wincing whenever she heard a rickety old beam shake underneath her. She prayed to whomever would listen to her silent please that they would hold long enough for her to make it to the steeple. If she could just survive that long then she would be happy. A death from a fall would be too pathetic for her, and it lacked honor. She needed a better death than that to feel happy. Still, she'd give it her all as long as she could still move, and with Nana leading the way she was confident that they'd make it. Confident, but not unaware of the ever approaching noises of walls breaking and wood being splintered down below. Their pursuer was not too far behind, in fact he always just seemed to be only slightly out of sight but always within earshot. She hated that.

Whether the two womens' decision was correct or not, they couldn't know at this moment. All they could do was run, despite their urges to fight. Running was one thing Nana disliked, yet even she used it on occasion to accomplish whatever her task had been. In the end, as long as she was the one standing over her bloody enemy, the means mattered little. "When we arrive at the church, you go in first and find out who is in charge. If they aren't friendly, let me know discreetly." Nana would call out and instruct over her shoulder. Without another word, she would veer off suddenly to take a longer way around to the church. Running was one thing, but it was no plan. The two women were in unfamiliar territory with no information. Her running around and leading the massive brute away, could be just as dangerous as sending her pupil until an unknown building to talk to unknown people. Only time would tell however. All Nana could do for now, was use rational and her own experiences from growing up in the slums of Oak. WC-188 WC Total-1,281

The church was separated from the other buildings, and it meant a pretty hefty jump to make it across. Vivi leaped from the roof of an old townhouse with all her might. Sailing across the gap, she didn't quite make it to the roof and instead tumbled through an old wood slat window. Crashing through, she rolled and landed on her feet, covered in sweat and looking about as worried as she could, which was still not much really. Standing up, she brushed herself off and looked at the current state of the church. It was old and musty, but still relatively vibrant. Though the stunned faces of the hiding congregants and the priest leading them in an interrupted prayer was unpleasant enough.
"A demon!" The priest shouted, pointing at her. Which, oddly enough was not the worst thing Vivi had ever been called. "She comes to destroy our last refuge!"
Vivi just sighed. It would seem they weren't going to be friendly after all.

DEVILS MAY CRY
It seemed that nothing would go as Nana had planned. She had used her adorable pupil to extract information, but the fearful community would have none of her machinations. Only a minute or so would have passed between Vivi's entrance to the church, followed by Nana's. The guild master of Eternal Nigthmare led the hulking beast of the man not once, but twice around the outside of the church before she quickly dove through the doors. One look at the eyes of the people and a glance at Vivi, told Nana all she needed to know. The 'humans' inside the church were just as dangerous as the monsters outside. "Demon?" she asked as her voice rang out loud and clear over the clamoring voices of the frightened congregation, even quieting the preacher. Her tone was fool of malice and contempt. Her eyes flashed dangerously at the cowering mass. Those nearest her fell back as she strode forward confidently towards the older bald man who was using the fear as a weapon to control his flock. As she stepped forward, her appearance began to change. Her long blonde hair became a lucid purple. Horns grew atop her forehead and wings sprouted from her back. The right side of her body became darkened with corrupted tendrils of devilish aura. Killing intent and twisted malice filled the air like charged particles and raised the hairs on every person's body within the small church. By now, she stood right in front of the preacher, towering over him and looking down upon his pathetic church robes. "You cast that word far too casually, holy man. You would be wise to do so less, or else you really will call a demon into your 'holy' sanctuary." she said in a powerful but mocking tone. Nana knew what would happen to her and her pupil if she allowed the preacher to take control of the moment. Instead, she seized the moment and so much more. A pew seat beside her had a glass bottle of alcohol. She grabbed it up and knew that Vivi would catch on quick. Before any could protest further, Nana used the glass bottle as a weapon and bashed it over a nearby man's head. His eyes rolled back and he crumpled. The glass bottle broke and turned into an improvised shank in Nana's hand. She grabbed the preacher and pressed the sharp end against his throat. She poked him ever so casually, allowing some of his red blood to spill from his flesh. "You would accuse two strangers in danger, of being accomplices tot he evil outside your walls. Well the evil inside this church is just as pathetic!" she screamed in an anger that Vivi had never seen her mentor do before. Nana walked backwards, sure that Vivi was watching her back as she dragged the preacher back towards the doors she had come through. Though the preacher protested, the sharp glass dug into his neck and reminded him who was in charge. With a powerful shove, Nana pushed the preacher out of the church and closed the door behind him. "Anyone else who wishes harm upon us will suffer the same fate." she would speak again, this time in a much more calm and controlled tone. As if to test her, one of the few men left in the church stepped towards her. She feigned a jab at his face with the glass shiv, but sliced him across his gut as he raised his hands instinctively towards his face. His intestines fell onto the floor before he even realized what had happened. Nana licked the blood off of her shiv and glared at the rest. All the while, the preacher banged on the door from the outside. Screaming and pleading to be let back in. Nana continued to lean against the door until they heard the heavy thudding footsteps of the pyramid-headed monster find its loud and foolish prey no longer protected by the church's walls. Taking a seat in one of the pews, Vivi watched Nana at her work. She was angry, that wasn't something Vivi had seen before. She did find it quite interesting to see how Nana comported herself in front of people she didn't like. It was a graceful sort of rage that bordered just on the edge of all out bloodshed. Like a swan covered in blood, or a flower...also covered in blood. The image was a bit hard to shake from her mind with the sight in front of her.
"Where to now?" Vivi asked her mentor. She took a look around the room, ignoring all the noise. "We are in a big stone box now. I am afraid I see very little in the way of options."

DEVILS MAY CRY
The scene that had played out was too much for the normal citizens. Too long had they been cooped up in the safety of this building and led down zealous blind faith in vain hopes of being spared from the evils outside the walls. yet with Nana's transformation into something demonic, the few survivors that Nana hadn't gutted with her glass weapon- they all knew that the time for complacent safety and ignorance was over. Nana's next words would give the survivors the sinking dreaded realization that had lodged in the back of their fearful minds. "We burn everything down. This whole town and take our chances and hope that the fire kills that monster outside and whatever else may be out there." Nana said with finality. It was a seemingly rash decision, but Nana had seen little to no food or water inside the church. The humans themselves were malnourished and unclean from lack of bathing. The idea of living in such a pathetic state was beyond Nana. She would rather go outside and die in a bloody battle, than grow weak and senile inside the safety of those tiny walls. With the sounds of the preacher long gone and dead, that too meant that the pyramid headed monster had likely wandered off. Nana opened the doors to the church to reveal the mangled corpse of the preacher at the bottom of the steps. She pointed to the corpse, "If you don't want to end up like him.. I suggest you start running." she said with a grim but demanding voice as she carefully waded through the few survivors and found the door to the basement. She would eye Vivi for a moment, signifying that she was about to do something else outlandish. She wiped the blood from her face but only succeeded in smearing it across her delicate skin. In the basement below, she found a generator to power the church's lights and AC. Beside it was several cans of fuel- exactly what she had hoped for. She grabbed several of the cans and went back upstairs yet as she went, she poured a line of fuel up the stairs. She would hand a couple jugs to Vivi as Nana found some matches that was used to light the church's candles. She gave several to Vivi and lit one near the door to the basement. "This place is no longer safe." she would say as she threw the lit back onto the trail of fuel. The trail of flames etched its way down the stairs and back into the stockpile of fuel cans near the generator. By this time however, nana had moved quickly outside of the church. A small explosion erupted from underground as the stockpile of fuel exploded and engulfed the church in flames. Mindful of her surroundings but driven with a mad methodology, she would climb up a nearby building's roof and began to pour the fuel everywhere. She and Vivi would burn this whole town down with a cleansing fire. "Spread that fuel on the building opposite of the church." she would instruct of Vivi. WC-521 WC Total-2,468

She wasn't sure what else Nana was planning. She was liking the style of it though. Her mentor was nothing if not efficient. She didn't waste time with idle notions, she was all about business and getting things done. That was another trait Vivi found quite impressive about her, and something she further found herself admiring. She sat still as the tide of survivors quickly made their way out of the church, screaming or sobbing as they took to the streets. She didn't care, her survival was what mattered. Once Nana came back though with all the fuel, Vivi began to understand her plan. She picked up one of the canisters that Nana handed off to her and slung it over her shoulder. Taking another on her hip, she sauntered out of the holy grounds and walked across the street. The eerie silence of the town was notable indeed, where had all those screaming people gone? She thought about it as she undid the caps on the fuel tanks and started to drain the fuel all across the front of the large storefront across from the church. She hummed a little tune as she went, splashing more fuel over flowers and rotted wood. When the canisters were empty, she moved to join Nana again. "All done."

Indeed. Their work was done, for better or worst. Nana stood on a small hill at the edge of the town as the watched the fire spread and burn down building by building. At the moment, there was no sign of their pyramid-headed friend- likely chasing the survivors Nana and Vivi had kicked out of the church. All of them would die in the fire hopefully, pyramid head included. If not, then Vivi and Nana would be the only two humans left alive in this town with nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. On one hand it seemed like a foolish endeavor. But this town was filled with evil. If they continued to run and hide, eventually they would take a wrong turn. If they hid in the church and ran out of food and water, they would die of malnutrition. The only option left had been to burn everything and hope that the problem solved itself. "If that thing comes back after all of this, we go down fighting." Nana said out lout, to herself as much as she did to her pupil Vivi. There were two cans of fuel left. They were on the ground at Nana's feet. The daemon woman took one of them and prepped it in her hands. "If the pyramid headed monster comes back, I'm going to douse myself in this fuel and cling to it and set myself on fire." she would say, leaving the second can of fuel to Vivi to decide for herself how to use it. Taking the second can up, Vivi gave it a shake before slinging it over her shoulder. She'd more than likely use it as a club if it came down to it. She'd go down fighting all the same. She hated the idea of dying on her knees, and she knew that Nana wouldn't expect that of her. Still, she hoped the monster wouldn't come back. Instead, she'd much prefer to head home. Maybe they'd find the way out after all.
