As dusk fell over Mahalo Island, a somber mood descended upon the normally cheerful tropical paradise. The sky, typically a calm azure blanket, became a turbulent sea of midnight blues and deep violets. Winds howled furiously, whipping the palms into a frenzied dance. Jagged lightning spiderwebbed across the roiling clouds, thunder rumbling menacingly in its wake. The very heavens seemed gripped by melancholy on this restless night, weeping fits of rain upon the island below. An ominous energy crackled through the air, as if the sky itself was trapped in the throes of a dark, ominous dream. The island held its breath, waiting for the coming dawn to chase away the shadows of the long, troubled night.

In the dimly-lit tavern, Tōga and Lumikki sat cloaked in camaraderie, the day's triumph still lingering like a sweet taste on their lips. Drinks flowed freely, toasting to their fledgling fame. Lumikki's moniker "Raven Queen" was already legend, her exploits whispered in awe across the land. Tōga's own reputation grew steadily in her wake, a rising dragon in his own right.

"I wasn’t as sick this time, but I still don’t get why it’s happening,” Tōga remarked, taking a deep draught of ale. Auburn eyes met Lumikki's with a soft smile. The cursed motion sickness had threatened to strike him down again amidst the rolling ocean waves. Yet somehow he had managed to conjure his ebony flames, vanquishing his vertigo. In Lumikki's company, Tōga felt his power growing. Together, their fame would spread as wildly as the flames of his inner dragon. This adventure was only the spark that would ignite the blaze of their destinies intertwined.

"Maybe I shouldn't eat so mu-" Tōga's words were cut short as the tavern doors burst open.

Rain and cries poured in as a fisherman stumbled through the threshold, his rain-soaked gear dripping violently. He was gasping for breath, eyes wide with panic.

"It's Haji! His ship - it never came back!" the fisherman cried, his voice taut with urgency. "That storm's turned into a demon out there! I fear the worst has happened to him and his crew!"

His shout pierced the murmurs of the tavern, all eyes turning to regard the panic-stricken man. The carefree atmosphere evaporated in an instant, replaced by grim concern. The waiter rushed over, helping the rain-drenched fisherman to a seat. As he caught his breath, the story spilled out - Haji's ship had ventured out that morning, only to be caught in a massive squall. The rest of the fishing fleet had limped back to harbor, unable to find any sign of Haji's vessel amidst the towering swells and driving rain.

Trepidation rippled through the tavern. Haji was well-known and well-liked amongst the seafaring folk. That he might have succumbed to a watery fate weighed heavily upon them all. Tōga and Lumikki exchanged resolute looks - a new mission was unfolding before them. Lives hung in the balance out upon those storm-wracked waters.

” Geeee, yer a fire mage out at sea fighting monsters mere men struggle to subdue with only a limited arsenal to pull from…. I too am confused by yer plight friend. Maybe if I toss ye into sea some more, yer learn to boil the water?” Lumi just took a gulp, chugging half her drink, before slamming her cut back down. The burn and the warmth felt so good. She licked her lips and looked back at him with blazing eyes, content with being in a tavern once more.

She was in a playful mood and the little dragon would have to take the brunt of it. There were giggles in between her words but in the end, she was actually incredible impressed. It reminded her of when she tired to take down a massive forest fire in the start of her journey. It was a like being grasped by her own inferno and fighting against it with the worse arsenal too. So she knew what it meant to face one’s ocean, and she was very proud indeed. But the lad was more gung-ho most, he did not need more hot air in his skull. So she preferred teasing him instead.

Before she would goad him on to eating for the evening to build his strength, a harrowing guest busted into the door. The storm from outside was making it’s way in as the distraught fishermen stumbled through the door way.

” Rude…” Lumi utter softly, but she looked onto Tōga’s eyes as she saw the ambitious fire in his eyes. He wanted to help this Haji but he could barely handle the calm sea let alone a storm. She sighed deeply as she chugged the rest of her drink. Her free hand gesturing the bartender for another as the people of the bar tended to the drenched man. She exhaled deeply before looking back to Tōga.

”Don’t even think about it Dragon Slayer. Yer too reckless and ya know it. Ye don’t even have turf here to protect….hehehe” She groaned like she was being called into a late night shift more than she was excited.” Unlike me…careful about ever setting up a cult following. I got me end of a pact to maintain…..Hmmm tell ye what, if ye could use yer flames to dry him off, I’ll take ye along.” The bartender handed her the other drink and she got to work. Taking a short pause to add on to what she said, ” See where exactly we need to begin searching while yer at it and if ya could pick up a scent, that would be nice.”

She gulped down the rest of her drink and left the slayer to his choices and devices. Brainstorming on her end how to find a human cast out in sea. What an annoying task to tackle but at least it was-” Dreki! Could ye see in the dark?”

The fisherman stood trembling in the doorway, soaked to the bone. Before Lumikki could react, Tōga was already rushing to his aid. Deft as a dancer, the dragon slayer crossed the tavern in swift strides.

"Come, warm up," Tōga beckoned gently, extending his hands. The fisherman stepped between his open palms gratefully. Closing his eyes, Tōga called on his innate fire magic - but with purposeful restraint. Rather than unleashing fiery torrents, he channeled the energy into a subtle heat. His hands glowed like embers, radiating warmth into the fisherman's rain-chilled body.

Tōga's mastery of his magic was evident; where wild flames might have brought only more chaos, he instead offered comfort. The Inn's fireplace could never match the restorative heat of a dragon slayer's power, attuned to the fisherman's needs. Under Tōga's gentle ministrations, the ice melted from the man's bones, his shivering ceasing. Lumikki watched her companion's skill with quiet awe - in this moment, Tōga's noble spirit burned brighter than any fire.

As Lumikki proposed tracking the ship by scent, Tōga's face lit up with a ready smile. "I can definitely try - and see just fine in the dark," he affirmed, rising as his magic evaporated the last raindrops from the fisherman. "Follow me," he called over his shoulder, words meant for Lumikki alone before vanishing into the tempest. He was gone in a blink, pink hair disappearing into the inky night. Tōga moved with preternatural speed through the storm's fury. Wind and rain battered him relentlessly, thunder booming deafeningly overhead. None could withstand the tempest's wrath, save the dragon slayer. His lithe frame fought against driving sheets of rain as he raced towards the pier on light, unerring feet. Tōga was in his element, using storm-heightened senses to track through the darkness. His magic coursed in harmony with the primal forces around him. He would find the ship, Lumikki trusted - she need only keep up with her fearless companion.

Tōga's nose twitched, sniffing sharply to catch Haji's scent. But the ship was far beyond range, swallowed by the churning seas. Piercing auburn eyes scanned the frothing waters where storm and tide clashed in a savage dance. "He's out there!" Tōga called over the gale's roar. Unsure if Lumikki still followed, he knew the trail ended at the docks. To find Haji, they would have to take to the treacherous open ocean. The dragon slayer stared into the murky depths, watching waves crash and seethe. This was no placid coastal sea but a snarling abyss, whipped into a frenzy by the squall's outrage. Venturing into the maelstrom would risk life and limb.

Lumikki

The lad was brought into action before the words finished leaving her mouth, yet that did not surprise her. Her words were hardly but a prompt to what his body already wanted to do. He mustered the will and restraint needed to make her suggestion. Warming the haggard man as he would regain composure. A waitress came with a drink to lift his spirits. One to help him regain his spirits.

She leaned back and watched while she was handed her last drink. She was sipping it as the Dragon Slayer worked his magic on the man to bring the bloke back to life.

And sure enough, she was brought to life once more as he nearly tore the door down to have at it. Attesting that he was sure enough with his skills to track the man in sea and storm. Lumikki was not that far after, rushing more to finish her drink than she was to follow the lad out into the rain. A shadow would form shielding her from the pour and wind. Her speed was swift enough that she was never far behind him as he took off to the pier to taste the air for their missing man. Lumikki could hardly hold back her giggle, every once and a while breaking out into a soft cackle. The night was mixing into her skin as she followed him, her wings were out since she passed the doorway. Flying both gracefully and bashfully. She was long stripping her way her human form into something in between but by the time Tōga found the trail, darkness dragged around her as she was on the cusp of her monstrous form once more.

" Good boy Tōga, are ye ready to try this again?" Her voice almost sounded malicious, but that was because she was overflowing with excitement. The storm was bringing out her more primal urges alongside all this excitement.

She hardly waited for his answer or agreement. Her shadows grabbed at him, clutching him a bit tightly before tossing him real high into the air. As the shadows built up around her, expanding her form to that of something larger. Four wings would break through the pulsing darkness, fizzling out the excess shadows from a beat of her wings. She was quite fast to dart up after the beat of her wings, scoping the Slayer to her back and securing him with dark tendrils.

" Theeeeeere ye say?" She spoke like the wind that carried the snow, the malicious tone was gone now as she was now hard focusing. " Me eyes are quite keen, even in the dead of night. Just lead me in the direction to fly and I should see him clearly, even from a hundred meters away...Hold tight Dragon." She shot forward in the direction he hinted at. Handling the turbulent winds and downpours just fine. They hardly bothered her or her stride, which was indeed useful with all that was already on their plate. It would not be easy to spot him in the churning sea, and they hardly have the time to spare before he sinks for good.

She flew just above the waves, as close as her size could allow. Waiting now on what Tōga had to say.

Toga

Tōga's auburn eyes gazed intently upon the churning ocean, its frothy whitecaps crashing relentlessly against the rocky shore. The howling wind whipped through his pink locks as he stood amidst the storm's fury. All around him, nature raged violently, the dark clouds and turbulent seas beckoning him into their tempestuous grasp. Something primal stirred within the dragon slayer, an irresistible urge to battle the elemental forces before him. Tōga felt the call deep within his soul - this was a contest only he could win. With a roar, he threw himself headlong into the maelstrom, steeling his will against wind and wave. The storm shuddered in sudden trepidation, realizing it had met its match.

As Tōga contemplated how to conquer the raging sea before him, a startling presence emerged from the darkness. Lumikki materialized behind him, cloaked in writhing shadows that danced across her skin. Her familiar features vanished as the inky blackness reshaped her into something otherworldly. Great feathered wings unfurled from her back while strange markings etched across her face, imbuing her with a mystical, primal energy. She had donned this mystical guise before, but never in Tōga's presence. With talons as sharp as steel, Lumikki effortlessly lifted the dragon slayer's muscular frame and deposited him onto her back. Tōga grasped her thick plumage tightly as Lumikki launched them both skyward. Borne on wings of night, dragon and shadow ascended through the storm toward destiny.

"W-Whoa!" Tōga cried out as Lumikki's powerful wings propelled them skyward. He clenched handfuls of inky feathers, bracing for the inevitable nausea that plagued him during flight. Yet as they sliced through the rain-lashed air, Tōga felt no sickness overtake him. Looking up in surprise, he let the storm's fury wash over his face. How was this possible? Since childhood, any mode of transportation had afflicted him with motion sickness - an indignity for one born to slay dragons. But now, embraced by the wind and clouds, Tōga felt whole. High above the roiling ocean, enlightenment dawned - this was where he was meant to be. Lumikki had gifted him the missing piece. With her wings, he could finally soar unfettered through the heavens. Exhilaration flooded Tōga's heart, vanishing all traces of unease. dragon and shadow, united in flight under tumultuous skies. This was freedom.

"There!" Tōga's voice rang out, cutting through the storm's fury. His raptor-like gaze pierced the dark clouds, zeroing in on a disturbing sight. Far below, two ships thrashed in violent confrontation, exploiting the poor visibility and high seas. One vessel had clearly ambushed the other - an act of piracy cloaked by nature's chaos. Tōga's instincts flared - Haji was aboard one of those imperiled ships.

Lumikki

As Lumikki flew untethered in her Demonic form and the pair would scour the seas looking for the vessel of the man known as Haji. The bolstering wind and rain would hardly deter Lumi, nor did it halt the dragon on her back. The man was at work following the stray scent, while she was keeping her eyes to the waters below. Combing over every wave with her keen sight in hopes of getting this job done.

Lighting would crackle in the distance, drowning the sound of the heavy wind whipping along her wings. ” How do ye fair Tōga. I know there’s plenty grit in ya, but we're in a storm all the same.” Lumi would utter as she climbed back up in altitude. It would be easier for her to scan the waters for the ship if she got a bit more of a bird’s eye view. Tōga clung hard to her feathers, more than the water slicking through her plumage. When this was all said and done, she could like a nice long bath to get the grim of the day nice and gone.

Just at the tip of her vision, she would note something floating. She kept her gaze in that direction until to ships became more clear, picking up her speed, she would descend quite rapidly. Almost sending Tōga off her back from the momentum, but he’s long been in her sights and she would find him just as soon if she were to drop.

As they near their target the Slayer would call out that these boats were indeed the ones they were after. Only the frustration of knowing there was one too many was quite the annoyance. Lumikki dipped enough in her flight that her talons ran across the water. When the pair were close, she would send up a wall of ice to part the two entirely. However the boats were, and whoever was on either vessel, would be locked into place until the Demoness arrived.

She perched on one of the ships, her sudden weight adding to the rocking of the ship but it balanced back, just barely to how it was before her addition. " Tell me Dragon Slayer, I don't know this Haji. Which ship do I get to sink?~" Lumikki would ask her partner with glee. Her feathers were rustling with excitement and as the waves would rock the boat, her upper set of wings would keep her steady.

All the men on board would look at her in terror, they were mostly used to monsters of the deep but not in avian form. She held off her excitement to attack for the moment but her talons were beginning to carve away at the boat.

Toga
The wind whipped through Tōga's hair as he soared upon Lumikki's back, reveling in the majesty of flight. For the first time since returning from Stellas, that persistent nausea, his constant shipboard companion, had vanished. No longer did the rocking of carriages or boats torment him. Here among the clouds, with only the rhythmic beating of Lumikki's powerful wings beneath him, Tōga felt whole. As she banked and dove through the towering cumulus, the storm-filled sky parting before them, he grinned broadly. The sickness that had plagued him on solid ground melted away in these transcendent skies. Up here, he was free.

Lumikki folded her wings and plunged from the storm-wracked skies, diving toward the clashing ships below. Tōga clung desperately to her icy feathers as the sea rushed up to meet them. At the last moment, she pulled up, leveling out just above the waves. Her massive wings pumped once, twice, coating both vessel's decks in frost. Their rigging crackled as ice encased it. With a single beat of her wings, Lumikki perched atop the nearest ship. Tōga slid from her back, landing lightly on the frozen wood. All around, sailors stared in wonder and fear at the demonic avian that had intervened in their battle. Her wings spread wide, she shrieked defiance to the heavens. The storm raged on, but she had brought a brief, frozen peace to these war-torn ships.

"Hmmm, not sure," Tōga replied with a wry smile when Lumikki asked which ship held their quarry. The warring crews gaped up at the winged demoness perched atop their frozen vessels. Oblivious to their shock, Tōga's gaze sharpened, cutting through the storm's fury. Rain lashed his face, wind tearing at his clothes, as his eyes probed each grouped. Then he cupped his hands and bellowed above the thunder's rage, "Alright then! Which of you scallywags is Haji? We're here to rescue the scoundrel!" His bold words rang out, silencing man and storm alike. Now all eyes turned expectantly to the crowds of sailors, searching for the one called Haji.

From the shadows of the ice-shrouded deck emerged a battered figure, limping unsteadily into view. His bruised face flickered in recognition as he raised his eyes to the winged savior above.

I-I am… save m-me!

Tōga smiled.

That’s him!” He had always wanted to say scallywag.

Lumikki

If the Demoness had lips or fangs in this form, they would be fixed into a malicious grin. The storm ranged about and she was soon to add to it. Eager to exercise her potential and capacity for destruction.  The rain that pelted the ship and men alike, was freezing as it fell. Turning all the water fallen into hail before colliding onto those below. The breath of both crews could visibly be seen, as the long night also became colder. Lumikki was shivering herself as well, the Demoness hardly holding herself back. All she could think on was acting the very moment the party worth saving has been confirmed. And as she froze all around her, it was almost as if time had too be frozen as well.

The churning waves would slow until they too froze over. Ice layering the previously frozen waves, formed glaciers over and over. Neither ship could be moved, and the men below were left stranded to either of their fates. To be consumed by either storm threatening to claim their lives.

Tōga, quickly hopping off her back and got to work, helping the Demoness discern the crew. Finally, a scared fellow approached, practically whimpering as he spoke. The bruised man stumbled forward, limping to the pair.

” Point yer crew so that they may be spared. But do so quickly, I lack the patience to hold back….” Lumikki bellowed. Haji looked at her confused at first but began to do just that. Pointing to his men that were also caught in the struggle. Those of the attacking fleet no longer too scare to hold still, rushed forward to meet the Demon. Ready to attempt to face their fate head one and be spared death if they managed to claim her. But the Demoness was hardly impressed, her shadows surging along the floors below touched the men and began to freeze them instantly from their toes up. Black frost creeping and encasing their flesh only to be finished off by the ice shards she conjured to impale their chests and send them to the afterlife.

Haji, quite uncomfortable from the sight, would continue to mark his men, the rest of the invading crew on the other hand were frozen in place without the use of the Demoness’ magic, but from their overwhelming fear. Every man Haji skipped over, was frozen over instantly. They hardly a moment to move or react. Eventually all that weren’t of his own crew were killed off. Black tendrils would grasp them and fling them on the boat. The other ship hardly had anyone left. The curious raven hopped to the other boat to see what was stashed away. Miscellaneous valuables were tucked into a bag, but beyond that, there was not much this ship would offer. She tossed it over to the other boat before creating a glacier to pierce the boat. Ruining its chances to move and stay afloat the moment she left. She lowered herself just enough to let the Dragon Slayer climb for himself, taking off promptly after. As she circled the skies from above, she willed her magic to unravel and free the ship of Haji.

When the crew was situated enough to leave, she lead them back to shore within the storm until the docked at the pier. The moment her talons touched back down on the ground, she shifted back to her form as when she was entirely human, walking back over to the bar to enjoy a few more drinks within the night before she got some rest.
