#1Erebus

Void Caverns: Voidfrost Hollow Empty Thu May 02, 2024 3:07 pm

Erebus

The chill invaded his hooded visage, his hand raised as he walked & kept the winds of this blizzard at bay. Erebus navigated through Pergrande in lone travel— navigating a track towards one gigantic black mass in the sky. One of three now, with more sure to follow. It was not until one arrived at the base of the mountains, could the portal truly be seen, suspended with the clouds rocks hovering upward below it. They were a welcoming force, inviting the strangest or most maddened adventurers to penetrate the unknown. Erebus carried a large backpack, inside he was equipped only the basics needed to camp and survive, what he might need to survive that is, in dangerous landscapes. The rogue peered across the cliff side, as he encroached upon the entry point.

In no time at all, he had arrived, and a long spiral vacuumed his cloak to the sky. The nearer; or closer that Erebus got to the portal, the more it seemed to lower before him, until it hovered only a measly two meters off the ground, close enough to throw oneself through. The sight of it seemed to defy this third dimension as Ere’s desire heightened. He was entranced by its promise, but the view alone beckoned one to throw caution to the wind. It has both a depth and a width, and then stretched inward as length of the sky itself now had a cave to walk through, such a strange a concept, cave inside of an aurora. This wasn’t Erebus’ first experience with the anomaly of the Void, so he did not take time to think that all over before he ran inside and jumped through the air, pulling back his knees so that he flipped in a loop through space and time into the realm of the void, allowing the magic to pull him like a string expanding into a ball of yarn, to pull his body through this rift was to transport one to a place outside of everything at once, and to what this cavern held inside, astonishing Akashi Records, an endless plateau of spacial matter and worlds to siphon off of. The colors around him as he spun were in presence shifting from pinks to purples, magentas only accentuated by the black wisps of what was pure darkness in this world— collapsing upon itself, yet even so— his attention was trained forward. He walked until he came upon a large tunnel, as it’s form bled through the walls, Erebus understood that past this point— he would probably have trouble finding his way back to the giant hole— his window into Earthland.

He could only hope to escape by getting to the treasure now— a loot hardly worth the risk; but in theory, the journey would be entertaining and a reward itself. The Don presses through the winding tunnel ahead, routes to take him deeper, and just before the first phase of this Void— he must track his way to the others— champions called by the void. Even if Erebus doesn’t like it, he assumed ahead of time he might not be the only one inside, hoping for a quick payday.

Nonetheless, he agitates his fate, the endless tunnel at some time started to curve, and the matter which was collapsing upon itself shifted atop and hid that world from before behind himself, the doubt of safety had long crossed Ere’s thoughts. Then again, he had been called to this mission and wouldn’t turn around without a success or failure anyways. His dreams and aspirations rested on the other side of this world’s power, and only then could he desire to go back. To expel his hunger, he was in a death-race for whatever fortunes awaited.

“You will show me some of your secrets Void.” His lips pursed, as he drew upon a hollow cavern— straight walls expanded to the infinite sky; markings upon the walls were ancient, expanding further up to the infinite— with paintings and artwork from a time forsaken to man etched into it.

Erebus wondered what civilization could keep working for an infinite amount of time on these walls— that seemed to raise for eternity… This world. Wherever it was, was beyond old. Perhaps billions of years older than Earthland. Erebus he paid this place it’s fair observation, his attention to clues this place could provide back to him on the lore of it all his priority— the walls ignited around him by fire-lit torches, which added to his viewing pleasures of the cathedral segue murals, divinely engineered canvas that gave life to this empty place, at the base-floor level of this dungeon.

The endlessly tall reaching walls, which allowed Erebus to see the endless expandings of artwork and paintings— soon diminished as he walked a great distance, and winded around the cavern yet further… He marched with a drum to his step, forward across this great empty prairie— empty void…

After hours— Erebus came before a new crossroads. Both a figurative one and a literal fork in the road, among these things he might see other figures at the end of this passage grow into figment, if they appeared forth to Erebus, they would draw him closer to their place or the end of the entry marker, at most— the start of his search through the Void’s tunnels.

Upon arriving to the crossroads, a group of frost giants would immerge and surround everyone. The frost giants roar with chaotic energy boosting the bass in their chest, the reaction seems to shake the area all around the characters, the giants advance. They hover a few meters over the ground, chilling the air. Erebus could feel the temperatures dropping the longer he remained nearby, soon— they lunged— one after the other, to catch and interrupt the players where needed, hoping to attack each player this turn.

"Bow before your queen"
- Astrid Venier

A stupid idea this was!

That she had even given this an earnest level of thought initially should have been enough of an indicator of how poor a decision it was to be here. Venturing to parts unknown, a land effectively scarred for an eternal winter, what wasn’t caked upon layer upon layer of frost and snow being that of surfaces made hellish by those same conditions. It was a deathtrap, venturing through these lands, made worse by the lacking of any actual guidance or direction towards the boon that was promised.

The Void.

A term that had been something of a mysterious boogeyman of recent. Tales of those whom had suffered greatly, the rumored horror that in part influenced the ending of conflict within Talaz Lagaar – something that even Astrid had hard time truly believing. No, of what she had heard of the mysterious entity, there was nothing clear about it. Nothing consistent. Nothing that gave her reason to believe it was anything more than a fantastical lie spread to hide the reality of an under the table ceasefire that disregarded the feelings and dedication of the people within a nation.

That’s all that should be thought of as the Void, especially by those whom – like Astrid – sought out power.

But yet she was still here, having decided to depart from Oak Town under cover of night, with obligations and tasks now thrust upon her regarding the city still outstanding; she had made the decision to see if what she had heard were true or not. It was almost too hard to believe that she wouldn’t have ventured out; everything she had gone through so far had been about power, about seizing it for herself. Was there really any such expectation or thinking that a fabled power like this would be something that she would have allowed slip by? Certainly not.

No, that addiction, it would have driven her here even if the supposed ‘void’ was nothing more than a fictional tale told by a child to draw terror out of his friends. No, for a people that had been scarred and plagued by years upon years of war and violence to degrees that few, including Astrid, could have understood, then there must have been something to it. And it emphasized her going at it alone, or at least, amongst those within her circle.

She had been travelling for quite a while, and the resonance within her mind pulsated frequently to inform her of what was going on around. There were those who travelled, their distance apart, if out of fear, warranted skepticism, or perhaps ulterior motives, but Astrid recognized their presence nonetheless. A gift, one could have said, of the change that her body was still undergoing, the adjustment of having gone from a simple human to that of an Aberration, a term used to describe those like her whom had had their bodies changed so egregiously and horrifically that some would consider them now more terrifying than that of the worst atrocities committed within Talaz Lagaar. Perhaps even more horrific than the Void itself if it proved true.

What was horrific was the sensation ringing within her head. No doubt something that she would eventually get used to, if not even come to appreciate, but in its infancy stage, a constant resonating sonar only contributed to a feeling of frustration, and a bit of a headache. A headache that began to explode as she felt it, realizing it for what it was.

An ambush.

Or at least, the start of one.

Presences of what she could not say, but gathering around her nonetheless. She first dismissed them; it stood within reason that there were creatures that existed within this snowing hellscape. But their numbers increased. They remained. They did not leave or venture elsewhere. They gathered, and spread, but remained.

And then they moved closer, moving closer and closer than from the some 40 meters that she had first picked up on them towards. She turned, hoping to see something, but the rough darkness provided little ease in that respect. She raised her hand upwards, a defensive stance of sorts as the sonar continued to indicate them getting closer.

Then came the sensation upon her neck, one that she was far more familiar with. An alert of what was to come. She could not see it, had no basis to know where it may have hailed from, but as soon as the sensation ran down her spine her arm had become fully extended, the Eldritch Dragon Slayer Magic materializing around her in a faint dome, a heavy cold bloom exploding before her as she turned her head, seeing the faint ice fragments falling to the ground as the shield dissipated away, but not before sending out the projectile right in a direction into the darkness, to quite what it was hitting being unclear, but evident enough that it had struck its target; whomever it was that sought to get take her out within the ambush.

Yet, one down lent hardly to the idea that she were safe. She could sense them still, albeit one less than what was there previously. And though there were the means to address the matter, a part of her wondered of her stalkers how many were interested in the others, the ones whom had made points to only loosely travel along the same road that she had been following.

WORDS: 740 | TAG: @Astrid | SHINING ARMOR

Ahhh, Iceberg... A place she'd heard of, and never visited before. And now that she was here, she sure as hell hoped she'd never need to go back. Even fully coverd in sleek black and purple armor, she could feel just how cold it was. She had to reconfigure her armor to operate in the cold but she sure as hell wouldn't be caught dead out of it as she flew across the air. No matter where, when or what it was, so long as it existed on Earthland, information about it could invariably existed... And if it existed, then she could find it. Simple as that.

"God, this fucking cold... Can't imagine the bastards actually living in this damn freezer."

She wouldn't wish this on anyone but then again... The last time she fiddled with the void, she gained the power she now wielded. She felt bad for losing her Vampirism, worrying it would break the connection she had with her woman, but at least that blood bond she had with Nikki remained intact. And the power she now wielded far surpassed what she had as a vampire anyway. This was more than enough reason to seek it out once again, even if she too wasn't so hopeful as to imagine she'd get any boon even remotely as big as the one she had now.

But the information she gleaned from this Cavern was worth its weigh in gold.

And besides, it also meant she'd get a chance to watch their new Guildmaster in action. Fucking Senator turned head of a Dark Guild, damn that was one hell of a riot. She could see why Iblis was so happy to let her have a seat. Just thinking about it brought a shit eating grin to her lips... Kanna didn't really give a rat's ass who ruled the guild so long as they kept the Knights from sniffing around too much. By this point she didn't have much to worry about from any except the higher ups, but it gets annoying as fuck to keep having to fend off even bigger crooks than the ones she usually dealt with. And so far... Phantom Lord sure had delivered as advertized. She arrived just in time to meet up with Astrid, and Erebus, another heavy hitter interested in the Void:

"Oh, hey boss. Ready to go huntin'?", only as she grouped up with her guildmaster did she finally peel away the helmet of her armor and revealed that green eyed gaze, her bleached blonde hair hanging loosely in that messy, but practical ponytail. Fuck even just peeling off her helmet let her feel that biting chill in full force, every exhale forming a visible puff of condensation in front of her mouth. A low, metallic clang accompanied her every step alongside an audible whirr as the mana engine dimmed, conserving power for the battle at hand. Turning her gaze from her Guildmaster to Erebus, she greeted with a simple curt nod, "'Sup?"

She knew him too of course, Erebus had been in literally every Dark Guild in the whole damn country in the past decade or maybe longer still, all the ones worth mentioning at least. Grimoire Heart, Phantom Lord, Eternal Nightmare... If there's somebody worth the title of bad to the bone, it was him. She could appreciate that. That said, the blonde had her eyes on the prize and right now it wasn't having drinks and making merry. She knew the enemies here were deadly, and this time, they didn't disappoint. The trio ventured deeper into the dungeon, and the blonde kept her eyes peeled, pulling her helm back over her head. The influence from the God of Knowledge had strengthened her analytical abilities to superhuman levels, and she could easily learn all she needed from a single glance. But that required her reaction time to keep up. The ambush came out of nowhere, and by the time she could see them, they were already on her, and she could do nothing but lift one arm and cast one of her spells, hardening her armor with a second layer of protection that shattered almost instantly, but at least kept her from taking any additional damage:

"Ghhh...! Oh you sonovabitch...!", grunting as the punch knocked back a few meters, she dug her feet deep into the ice to stop herself from flying any further, the engine of her power armor growing louder once more as it lit up and she prepared her counterattack

Erebus

1-50: Frost Giants, unleash a pulse of ice mana towards you— 2xS frost magical damage.
51-100: The player avoids, they can return damage and kill a Frost Giant thus turn.

  • Astrid kills 1
  • Kanna kills 1
  • Erebus arrives to the frame of battle

8/10 Remaining.

As Erebus pulled into the frame of the fight he saw a witch reflect the force a colossal punch. It seemed the monstrous sized golem could only do so much. It had roaring offensive strength, but was encumbered by damage— shattering as a block of ice would naturally.

The void bled the crossroads into a hellscape of dark crimson reds and browns, and Erebus realized that the matter in the void would soon augment their foes as well should they not run from the chaos all around them. Then again, perhaps it was the void — crawling the walls of this dimension, that entice him so.

As he arrived Erebus equipped his things, namely it was his (saber) Loadout, he dispersed in a flicker of smoke to arrive atop the back of a Frost Giant. Erebus begins to unleash his anger, relenting if not until he was at the bottom of the creature’s end, eating the concrete up from the other side with his own weapons.

As he realized his foe was defeated, he took to a kneel, the rest of this bunch loomed, one could hear their steps shake the air as they neared— ten total giants. Were now setting in around two others. First it was Astrid. Who recovered well and fine.

Then after her, a guild member of this witch’s brand. The phantom lord guild seemed to have reopened its walls, and Erebus had yet to meet many of these dark mages. While his hands had certainly affected lots of exchanges in Oak— he still hadn’t set foot in there since leaving Eternal Nightmare to Jin. Even moreso, since being caught in the politics of Joya and its treasures, then prison, Erebus just hadn’t the time of day for his hometown roots.

Now you have the very mages taking care of his hometown, in the thick of it. Here! Nothing can go wrong with a killer in the void, Erebus reconciled to himself. He then adjusted for his greeting.

“Delighted.” He said first, so as to break the air for the others. “Fortunate that we would meet in this place— wouldn’t you say?” Erebus said pursing his lips with a pinch at his eyes— a childlike wonder beyond the monster— always a treasure Hunter at his very core, despite that— one could not see it. Erebus kept a draping cow over his face, and beneath that, a visor with a computer screen. It read and remembered things for him later to analyze and pool over. Through his visor, his warrior tone was traded for the vectored bass of a demon. This voice booming, was further raised when in a strange world such as this. Seeming to bounce off invisible walls in this strange altered dimension, until it found its way back to one’s ears.

“Don’t waste your time looking back, you aren’t going that way. We must choose a path— right ? Or left.” Erebus pressed, nodding towards the large, and elongated caverns opposite his direction in bud running path. A creepy, lengthy, bent and rusted sign stood erect behind Astrid, had she not noticed this world turning so hellish? Or was the Void simply a place of own one’s mind, Erebus wondered.. The sign in question, while out of place, was also nothing of clue to worth, it had blurred two out names (strange) for its opposing path routes, so that seeking to know where they led was still left in the unknown, a trick of fate, in this Void Cavern.

Meanwhile, as the portals ripped and tore holes to Oddr Mountain, so too did Frost Giants spawn, suckling the elements of the ice and the snow from the portals and materializing as beings. The Void— as it was, seemed to take life from the natural world, and curse it. It was a hauntingly chaotic thing, and the more Erebus thought on it. The less “natural” it continued to become.

In Erebus’ case, he would spread his own chaos when that was to balance the universe, but too much of it? — That evoked a different idea. It was, for a lack of a better term, agitating. Yet even so, without his foot in the door, the Void would not show him its secrets. He has to continue sacrificing, and in turn, fighting — to see the other side of these worlds.

"Bow before your queen"
- Astrid Venier

The reverberation echoed throughout the cavern, the signaling of combat. Whatever subtly that there may have been, it was lost in the attempted ambush upon them. Now, the conflict had shifted to that of a battle itself. The Giants, those that remained in their initial attack on one side. Astrid, the woman whom had approached, and the other individual, the one shrouded in the dark robes, standing outnumbered, yet not outmatched on the other.

The woman though, far more than the combat, her presence was of much greater interest to Astrid. The blonde with the respectable bust; a bit juvenile maybe, but independent, headstrong, and more importantly, someone who was had piqued Astrid’s interest. She was one of the four that Iblis had pointed made point to her prior to his departure for parts unknown. Kara? No… Kandice? No… Something like that. Kanna! Kanna was the name. Astrid could not help but shake her head a bit at the idea of not having that name and face tied to memory already.

After all, Astrid had high hopes for this woman.

Very high hopes.

It was good fortune really that the two of them found themselves together within this adventure, if it were to be called that. That the same cause had brought both of them together was indicative of the idea that this Kanna had an allure for power. The Void was certainly that, an appealing treat to those who were worthy, a deathtrap to those who were undeserving. She had no doubt that she was deserving. To see Kanna here, she had hopes too that she was worthwhile of that kind of power. The third, she had no significant opinion towards; neither one of positive nor negative. They had arrived and by all appearances seemed to have been an ally, though their worth and contribution towards this venture remained to be seen.

She heard the loud thump as the frost giant slumped down to the ground, the reflected blast as the massive frozen projectile being one that took all of them surprise at first. Seeing it plunge through the chest of one of their comrades took them all by very clear surprise. In the immediate moment of that, the cloaked figure disappeared, no doubt launching his own strike upon the remaining forces. For a brief moment, she figured that their fellow giant laying dead upon the ground, likely joined by another courtesy of the cloaked figure, would have been enough to deter them. She almost expected to detect them moving back.

And yet they did not.

They had been given a chance to escape. And they abandoned it.

An idiotic decision. But theirs to make.

She felt the sensation in her neck before she could see it occur, unclear of quite what to make of it, only knowing that it was not of the sort of intensity that would have come with her being targeted. By the time she put it together, the attack had struck at Kanna, for almost a brief moment Astrid looking on with concern, worry even. For a girl that she had high expectations and plans for, to lose her here would be soul-crushing. A brief moment passed as she looked on, not sure how to process what she saw, Kanna suffering the same sort of blast that Astrid had managed to repel in its entirety.

To Astrid’s delight, she witnessed the blonde-haired woman get up, winded, maybe even a little injured, but certainly able to fight on. Her composure returned, the faintest hint of a smile on her face as she moved over towards the woman, seeing the extent of the wound. Nothing. No visible marks, no discernable blood. It seemed that at worst, she may have been sore underneath the armor that seemed to absorb the entirety of the attack.

A stroke of good fortune.

“Dear, you’re too precious to be dying here,” Astrid whispered as she kneeled down beside Kanna, her hand gently caressing the woman’s cheek; an invitation perhaps or a subtle show of concern, that being more left to Kanna’s imagination. What mattered more was that she realize the reality of their situation. "I would hate for what I have planned for you to be in vain." Standing upright, she turned to face where the blast that struck Kanna had come, as Astrid looked up, a finger held to her lips as suddenly an eruption blasted outwards from her now-opened mouth, the blast expanding outwards, travelling far beyond the confines of the makeshift arena they found themselves within. How many were struck by it or the accompanying collapsing further out, the sounds of massive chunks of ice and stalactites striking down upon the hard surface in small explosions, fortunately far enough from the duo to be of any threat.

She looked down again upon the woman, another glance to ensure that there were no sudden injuries that would have plagued her guild member. She seemed fine, at least, appeared to have been. If she were not, hopefully that little display proved worthwhile enough to survive long enough to maybe one day have a chance to taste power like that herself. No greater motivation to survive than to hold power far greater than what one may have possessed on their own. And both in Astrid and in the Void treasures, there was certainly plenty of that to be had.

Stepping towards a literal crossroad that had seemed to appear, a warped thing as to how it materialized being something of a mystery, perhaps that of the corruption of the Void, she listened, hoping for her Sonar to pick up something. Anything.

Nothing.

Sighing, she turned back towards Kanna, not so much focused on if she had begun moving along with her, but rather just hoping that she were listening. “It’s an illusion of choice. Whatever exists beyond either route, that I cannot say. Left or right, it doesn’t much matter it seems.” And to the other one, the one adorned in cloaks, should they have been alive themselves. Admittedly after her little display, she wasn’t much interested in how many of those frost giants still stood, nor what the fallout of such a blast would have caused. Sacrifices made in pursuit of the Void would be worth it.

Even as Kanna reeled from the blow, she kept her eyes on the prize. That attack broke her secondary layer of armor as the metalic pieces fell down to the ground with a clang and quickly vanished into thin air... That's exactly what it was there for. She looked closely at the enemy, analyzed them, their mana, the force of the blow connecting with her. Every variable was but a small part of a much greater whole, a thread she needed only follow until she arrived at their weaknesses. When you're bonded with the God of Knowledge, everything is predictable...

Or, well... Almost everything.

After all, nothing could prepare her for what Astrid did next. Her eyes flaring when she felt that delicate caress on her cheek. After all, being expendable comes with the territory... Light mages and their ilk were no better, the Dark was just more... Honest about it. To use others and be used by them, knowing you can only count the people you trust with one hand. That was the price of freedom, of living life on her terms and not anyone else's:

"Heh... 'Preciate the concern boss... But these overgrown ice cubes ain't shit.", she replied, a reassuring smirk drawing on her lips, making it clear she had plenty of fight left in her as she got back up on her feet.

More than idle bluster, she'd felt their attacks from that one hit. Predictable, as denizens of the Void, their every bodies were dripping with tainted Mana. And her armor belonged to a deity who shared the same attribute. The solution right in front of her eyes she ran a thumb over her plush pink lips, eyes narrowing as she took aim at her enemies. Except she didn't even have time to mount a retaliation as her Guildmaster unleashed a thundering roar that quickly demolished the enemies:

"Fuckin...! Don't know what you got planned, but it sure don't look like ya need any help.", she snickered, brow arched at how effortlessly her guildmaster took down the same golem that got her on the defensive.

It looked impressive enough but to her all seeing eyes, she could not only see that stunning display, but understand why it was so. Damn... The world of mages is full of monsters huh? Yet as Kanna looked at that display, a single word crossed her mind.

Freedom.

She had to admit... It was pretty damn impressive what these two could do. Kanna mounted a solid defense but she knew for a fact she couldn't do it over and over again. That combination of offense and defense was something she should think about next time she was designing upgrades for her armor. Her mind was bubbling with ideas already, hungering for power, and they hadn't even found any treasures yet. This adventure was looking to be a promising one, so she echoed Erebus' words with a nod:

"Oh, bet. Nothing like a good treasure hunt to break the ice."

The void giveth, and the void taketh away. All of them here had partaken in the Void's power at some point or another, and likewise, the Void was now freely taking what it wanted from this dimension. It stands to reason that everything it was taking now had to be here somewhere. Whether sucked in from the land of Iceberg, or from Talaz Lagaar when it first expanding into this plane. All of it ripe for the taking. Her spine tingled with excitement:

"Right it is then. Doesn't matter what we choose, so no point hesitating.", her eyes saw nothing to discern one option for the other, after all, so no point waiting around before striding off.

No sooner than they started making way, more tears in space time appeared before them, and they were soon besotten by far more frost giants than earlier. Without hesitation, Kanna reached into herself and opened her heart to the deity inside her, a sudden burst of magic power flaring out from her body as her armor grew thicker, a gleaming, metallic silver encasing her entire body as the low purr from the engine grew into a roar, mana busting out from thrusters in her back, palms and soles alike as she propelled herself through the air and rushed at the nearest frost giant, grunting as she was soon struck by a sudden pulse of ice magic:

"Heh... Thought as much~ Wanna try that again bitch?", she taunted flying right by her enemy until it turned around with a shrieking roar, and that way turning his back on the far more dangerous threats of Erebus and Astrid.

True, acting like a tank was hardly what her armor was made for... But so long as her enemies wielded the power of the void, well... She could do this all day. She may not be as fast or as powerful as either of the other two dark mages, but after that blow... She understood the innate resistance she posessed, and would make sure to make the most of it for the coming fights. Bide her time, wait for an opening... And take the enemy's eyes off allies.

Erebus

1-50: Astrid destroys a third Frost Giant with Eldritch Dragon’s Roar as it travels its max distance, some meters behind the first giant to be wasted, the blast shatters another.
51-100: Astrid’s roar misses, she successfully vanquished the other 2x Frost Giants, no other frost giants are destroyed by her round.

1-50: Erebus will be unsuccessful after being blasted, he takes another 2xS Frost Beam.
51-100: Erebus destroys a frost giant— evading the second beam of damage.

—-
Erebus - 1
Astrid - 3 (+1 if the roll modifier is successful, if the roll modifier is successful the tally is 5/10 at the start of this post)
Kanna - 1

6/10 Frost Giants Remaining

—-

As the words left her lips, Erebus wagered they do exactly as Kanna said, go right… However, as more monsters spawned, and fused their broken shattered pieces, yet more Frost Giants were overwhelming the group.

Erebus himself summoned his gauntlet into his spare hand, turning only slightly, he realized the exceptional speed of these monsters, to which you could almost consider god-like— or as close too it as Erebus has reached in his lifetime, the magic of the monster spanned a twenty meter distance with his frost beam, nigh instantly— perhaps traveling at 40m/s. The beam flash froze Erebu, causing his monitor to go off before a reboot warning appears hovering in his face. The beam was more than just damage, it had knockback potential as well, and sent the cloaked one flying from the frame of the scene, back on Erebus— it was in a way, quite fortunate he was blasted. It moved him out of the way as the power of an Eldritch Roar sung a story of horror against the enemies.

However, as his body bounced and ragdolled against the ground; an eerie fusion of both Hell and Oddr Mountains, Erebus gripped the clutch, and quite literally, teleported in a flash of black smoke.

Right back to the creature’s eye level, if Ere was awarded lucky enough, he was to land such devatastating damage that the monster would bust into flakes of stalagmite. If he could manage this before it shot him again that is.

At point blank, Erebus was a monster too— even so, these things were proving to be more difficult than other creatures he’d faced in the Void so far. It was in this moment a light burst was seen and heard— Kana had transformed with Henrich and Erebus would have been invested in figuring out what kind of power that was; had they not been wrapped up in a’ intense situation. She too had succumbed some damage, but her mode appeared to add to her defenses. That was good, then she was clearly ready for the challenge. Erebus on the other hand, was noticing the strength of his targets, and was trying to recover

Are the… Aberrations getting stronger?! — the thought certainly passed his mind.

Upon throwing a jab, Erebus moves with grace as his body pivots at the waist. He rotate his knuckles as they touch the surface of ice, and he snaps his wrist back to lamd the lethal knock-out punch, the first move the Adventurer ever learned.

Momentum was now thrown with a force, his weight his best weapon, in and out like a boxer, he threw a straight— upon entry; Erebus teleported to the side of the monster’s head— which would mean he dropped to the ground after, scaling four meters from the ground with a hard landing on his knee, he figures he will be okay if he can catch up now. If possible— he’ll break into a full on sprint and hauling his ass after Kanna and Astrid down the RIGHT path, but if he is unsuccessful, he will linger and respond to the whims of these giant aberrations.

“May be so, yet with time here— we learn that these things.. Memories of their forsaken worlds, the invaders of Earthland— they are called, just as we invade into their troves? The allure of darkness has been a flytrap for the unworthy, in their greed they ignore the consequences. Remember the path. It will take you home.” he finalized. Still running, or if he had been blasted, lagging his departure, the words would somehow bounce off and echo through the caverns to the ears of the others.

EDIT:

Upon teleporting, the Frost Giant blocked with his arms, creating an X-shape guard as it backed away from Erebus. Moving its hand, it blasted him again.

It was then that Erebus got serious and spoke (dialogue above). He drops assumed a defensive stance, with more Giants hanging up at the entry point. He will buy his time to get away if Kana and Astrid press forth.

Effect: The user teleports, leaving a black smoke like after image, up to the maximum range of the spell. The time it takes for the user to reappear is the time it would take them to dash to that location. What makes this spell different from other teleportation spells is that it allows the user to attack after teleporting, though the user can only attack with Chaos Claws. Otherwise the user cannot attack immediately after teleportation in the same post.

Rolling to determine the status of additional enemies within post.
1-50: An additional Frost Giant will appear before Astrid. They will be granted an attack to which Astrid will be able to react and respond to.
51-100: No additional Frost Giants will appear within the post. Astrid will be able to interact and engage as though her pathway is unimpeded.

"Bow before your queen"
- Astrid Venier

The path was clear it seemed, loosely speaking.

She could sense them still, maybe 5 of them in total now; the trio of them managing to steadily wipe out their numbers. Though she was mindful of it, that she was doing much of the heavy lifting, it didn’t much phase her. Rather, in her mind it was a good thing, particularly given the presence of Kanna. Astrid knew little of the members of her guild; there were hardly a reason to. But Iblis had made a point towards several in particular, with Kanna amongst the top of the list.

And based on what she had seen so far, it seemed to be warranted, given the situation. She was alive, which was a positive thing to note. And she was seeming to hold her own well enough. Granted, she had suffered hits that Astrid had not, but even she recognized the artifacts that she had gathered over time in her pursuit of power were proving to be valuable, if not even difference makers. Kanna was resourceful, granted, but it was unrealistic to believe that she may have had access to the breadth of Magical toys that Astrid had.

Maybe once this little expedition of theirs was over, she would make a point of seeing that Kanna was properly rewarded, whether it be from whatever this Void-tainted place had in store for them, or otherwise something else. What exactly that may have been, it would remain to be seen, but she was certainly showing that she was deserving of it. Yet, some of her decisions did leave Astrid a little annoyed, nonetheless. As she turned back, expecting to see her guild member behind it, arguably more than enough time having gone as to enable her time to compose herself, she could not help but sigh slightly at the sight of Kanna standing behind, as if choosing to be bait for the Giants that were still remaining behind.

It could have been perceived as a noble sacrifice, but to Astrid, it seemed foolhardy. The damage done by her Dragon Slayer Roar had torn through much of the surrounding area, to the point where it alone would have given the Frost Giants pause if they had even a small amount of brain capacity. Though, if they were still sticking around, it could have been just that they viewed Astrid as too great of a threat. Maybe they viewed Kanna as weak enough to have a chance against. And the other figure, the one in cloaked garb? Astrid admittedly hadn’t paid too much heed towards him; he was neither Phantom Lord nor someone whom Astrid knew much of. But if he were joining them within this expedition, she would have hoped that he could have handled things.

That she could still sense him presence via the Sonar within her head at least validated that he were still alive, so that was something to respect, if nothing else.

Though a part of her felt it foolish to waste time worrying about what may happen to the others, she admittedly found herself torn. The path before her was clear, Kanna having already made the decision to proceed with the right path, one that Astrid didn’t have much opinion towards admittedly. Either could have led them to the presumed treasure as much as they may have led them to their demise. But the latter had yet to take place, despite the efforts of the Frost Giants thus far, so it was reasonable to think that it would not be yet.

She took a few steps forward, suddenly feeling the sensation within her neck once again, though this time not nearly one that she felt capable of identifying. The barrier she constructed earlier, she hoped to have produced it again, but found herself unable to, nothing happening as the sensation in her neck seemed to get more and more intense, worse than anything she had felt before. With no options available, she snapped her fingers as she stepped backwards, escaping within the rift that generated behind her.

Some short distance away, right near where she had left Kanna, she stepped out again, the sensation of travelling through that rift in space being one that she could never find herself comfortable experiencing. A shiver ran down her body as her body quickly reacquainted itself with the real world, whatever dimension she had previously been within erasing any of that sense from her. Quickly gathering her bearings again, she realized just what it was that the sensation from the amulet had been alerting her towards; a Frost Giant that had descended down from an ambush site, having seen the failure that was the initial ambush attempt and likely opting for a different approach that did not rely on projectile abilities, but rather by crushing her outright.

Had she not moved through the rift, it may have been that its attack would have succeeded.

Yet as it was, she were there still, though having walked back within the center of the Frost Giants that Kanna had sought to draw the attention of. Effectively, she had walked through space to avoid one threat and instead appear before another.

She turned to Kanna, what appeared to be a smirk on her face as she then scanned the area, seeing just what it may have been around them. Five Frost Giants remaining, one of them being the one that had attempted to crush her, and four others surrounding them. “Brave girl,” she remarked, her tone a mix between condescension and admiration, it being hard to tell quite which one was more abundant. No further words were said, Astrid instead holding her finger to her lips before it came. A snap of the fingers.

And then the eruption.

Eldritch Dragon Slayer Magic manifesting all around her, creating a heavy hue that seemed to consume her before being erupted outwards in a horrific display; a wave of volleys that seemed almost like those of Magically-produced arrows firing outwards in all directions, each of them locking in one of the Frost Giants before them, all delivering a vicious assault with arrow upon arrow upon arrow being lodged within the Giants’ heads, all a more terrifying display of cruelty than even the indiscriminate destruction left by her Dragon Slaying Roar.

“But do not go mistaking my intrigue for you as some excuse to martyr yourself. As I said,” the cruel smile upon her face evident, “I have great plans for you.”

Kanna Kusanagi

WORDS: 740 | TWC: 1600 | TAG: @Erebus @Astrid | SHINING ARMOR

These things were indeed fast... Surprisingly fast for something this massive. Kanna was pratically flying at full speed, and even then it took some effort to dodge their attacks. Granted, she only really needed to dodge the melee attacks. If they just kept attacking her with magic, she could just keep taking whatever they dished out. Fucking hell, she'd have loved to get a closer look at the action on the ground. In her last Guild, she never once got to see the big boys and girls in action. In Phantom Lord she hadn't had much luck either, Iblis never really tipped his hand for even a second, and she'd never even met Astrid until today. Granted, she had to keep her eyes on the prize:

"Shit... These fuckers are faster than they look huh...?", she'd been flying around for a bit now, distracting them... And more importantly looking for an opportunity to unleash a counter attack... A large, icy hand swept over her, and though Kanna saw it in time to sway to the right, the sheer pressure of the wind forced her into a spin, until she pointed both arms and legs down and flew straight up, turning face up... Feeling that icy wind, slowly feezing the joints in her armor, "Whoa there...!"

From her vantage point, she could clearly see Erebus engaging these creatures in melee, something that only attested to his power as not even Astrid, let alone her could do that consistently. It took quite a bit of effort on her part to focus on defense and she had yet to launch even a single counterattack. She was getting impatient... But took a deep breath, and focused... In a battle, first one to lose their cool is the first one to day:

"Oh I don't doubt it... If any of us die here, we'll only be making these things stronger. Wanna bet that's they got this damn strong to begin with.", she didn't know much about the void but what she did remember... Was nothing like what now unfolded before them.

Of course, while she could endure their attacks for a long time courtesy of the natural resistance to their void energy... In a long, drawn our battle she probably wouldn't last that long, considering the effort it took out of her just keeping herself in this state, merged with God of Knowledge and clad in his sleek metallic armor. But soon enough, Astrid too proved exactly why her strategy was sound. Kanna had a smirk on her face as the Guildmaster unleashed yet another devastating attack on their enemies, ripping through what feeble minds these beings posessed. She couldn't imagine they had much higher thought to begin with, but jugding by the wails:

"Hah! Who the fuck said anything about about Martyrdom?", Kanna all but sneered at the enemies in front of her, now that she'd realized the extent of her advantage, how she could make the best use of the power she did have, in comparison to the two Guild Masters. She couldn't unleash such wanton destruction the way Erebus and Astrid could... Not yet... But against enemies tainted with Void Mana, she could take a lot of hits, which turned her into the ideal tank, "Don't worry boss, ya ain't gettin rid of me that easily~"

She did feel a little guilty for making her do all the heavy lifting but hey. Even against big, fast enemies like this... She was gonna find her opening sooner or later.

#24Erebus

Void Caverns: Voidfrost Hollow Empty Sun May 19, 2024 7:43 am

Erebus

Erebus coughed, sputtering and patting his chest as he needed the air to come back to him, the force behind these blows were some of the strongest he had ever experienced. He smashed and skidded atop the cold ground— enough force in that beam to dizzy & disoriente even a dragon. This blast also left a mark in his armors, especially the helmet under the veil of the cloak. There was an occasional electrical static popping from the right side of the helmet, showcasing a wide crack in the visor. Another one of those blasts, and Ere was sure it short-circuit he Apex.

Now having received more than half of its durability in damage— Erebus was in doubt whether he could go forward— without first being able to assume the challenge ahead. Across his face, there was bleeding, his left orbital felt smashed— even weakened, a fracture could have been left by the beam. His chest plate was now washed in white sleet; blue ice, which smeared like cake-icing against the frontside annd backside of his armor.

It was then that the frost giant tilted its head and echoed a booming and malicious laugh, it had turned slightly— staring upon the others— who were a pretty long distance from where Erebus and his Ice Giant were, it realized what Astrid had done as the spell crashed into other Ice Giants first, volleys came and decimated numerous giants. But not this one— it responded with a defensive barrier.

The strength of these Giants were high, but they had not quite felt the power of a Z-rank mage. His brethren were being torn apart, and thus angered the giant, as he was forced to watch the others meet unbecoming ends to the Earthlanders.

Thrusting pointy fingers against the rocks, the Giant held— and clung, to his placement. Conjuring forth a large, numerous meter height iceberg that surrounded and coiled around itself— the giant cube would match the explosion of the volley— turned coalesced arrow, an ate the brunt of the spell. The spell would crack and rupture the defensive but it appeared it came just cut of piercing the entirety of the barrier.

As well as this, snow and glitter now glinted over the air around her person, as one last Frost Giant was coming forth into the Void around them— staring down upon both Astrid and Kanna. Due to not stepping against the ground before first attacking, it was up to fate really whether the two would survive the beam about to drop on their heads, no touching the ground meant the sonar senses possessed by the Phantom were null— albeit, there was the case of the danger sense still providing some level of awareness. That is— if Astrid and Kanna were not distracted by the same Giant facing Erebus at the other side of the map.

The last Giant over Astrid and Kanna, braced it’s body for the impact of it’s spell beam, which it would fire down on their backside, and with just enough time to strike with its power before it surfaced fully. The attack would do staggering damage to at least one of the two.

Back to Erebus, the scene has only intensified. He loosely uses his sword to as a lever, balancing himself back to the feet. Realizing now that he broke a toe and could feel it sting with his steps, another consequence of being ragdolled by that first beam of ice at point-blank.

Two eyes— one filled with blood— hung and watched with a foggy curtain at the monster ahead. Whether his constitution showed otherwise, Erebus was holding themself awake and alive off of willpower alone— and yet, if that helmet was ripped off his face; you would see only the deepest hatred in this one, eyeing the storm.

The iceberg itself seemed to crack and break upon eating the Eldritch’s spell, which fumigated against the side of it with black mists and pink lavender static, as it moved across the cube— Erebus wondered if it would breach through… Decimating the cube, it did.

But the Giant broke free of its defensive spell. Ensuring that the spell had wiped most, but not all of these things from the map.

Crossing an X-shape with its large blue arms— the form of the monster began to glow and vibrate rapidly. The snow on the mountain shifted in direction, moving upward in reserve gravity, returning to the heavens at beyond the highest peaks. Soon, snow was followed by rocks, plants, dirt and gravel from different parts of the mountainside— funneling upward, fused by the void, and levitating with other debris into the sky. Large, megalithic ice chunks ripped and torn from different areas of Oddr Mountains, when the Void portal first opened— it was clear it ate a bit of the plane they had came from.

Erebus could do little in the time he was given, his eyes widened—a lightbulb had gone off for him as he realized the worst of things, he had seen something like this— long ago, and knew that the next spell was going to be like nothing else the others have seen yet. This thing wanted to level the area— a large kill zone that was going to erase all of them when finished. Wondering if an ice giant could actually go nuclear, he didn’t want to take his chances frozen either.

“The Void demands from us… sacrifice.” his words would echo through the realm. “The mountains that it stole from us… they are clearly not enough to open the path.” Erebus bit his tongue; until it was bleeding down his lips— something to take his mind off of his only real fear, Death. Yet even after so long, and so much pushing. He was the weakest and he was not yet the perfect monster to create the perfect warrior, from what he could decipher— he was a tryhard and even the lower ranked mage was fairing better at the hands of overwhelming odds. Therefore, he has the least to lose. This makes him the most dangerous. He smiles, with hate in his eyes at this world, and the world he was fighting from its erasure.

“There is no more time to prepare, even less time to plan for what is after.” Erebus said, haunting powers charging into his body, as it pushed mana into a choke, and focused on bringing the sickly feeling, pure fever and ailment up to the surface to tapa into his most taxing power.

With a disgust for his fate on his curling lip, he dug his boots into the ground and propelled. “Return us to darkness..” Erebus finalized, provoking his last move.

Erebus moved towards the Giant. In one launch from his starting point, he simply put everything into getting him down that direction— ignoring the cracks and pains of his body and bones giving out, his pace soon picketed to a sprint. He knew he could only act so fast, his abilities would only warrant him so much.

Just before the ice giant would blow itself up, hoping to return 2xS to all three of them in a 50m radius and bring down the mountain, Erebus places his hand against the giant’s leg. He gives one last look towards the Phantom mages, shaking his head at the thought of them stealing his treasure.

Yet, he was not in a moment to double think or rationalize— defeating this bastard was the priority. Erebus, who was still holding his sword, would stab it deeply into the icy corrosion holding their surface, the ground, together. Erebus pokes the hook rough into the crack— shattering a larger gaping hole, and rotated with his wrist, levering the crack to splinter and grown— until an avalanche was beneath them— it poured from beneath and filled the cavern he had tracked his way up  to get here in snow— and the cliff side where the battle was raging to s screamed for a quaking boom.

He along with the creature in his hands, phase. And at this moment, the monster would be transported with Erebus to limbo, causing his spell to be seen, however the detonation would be useless— traveling out but rendering it ineffective at best.

A blue dome-like wave (imagine a pulsing shockwave) would move through the area— past Astrid, and past Kana, for hundreds of meters. If able, the entire mountain would have glossed and frozen over. However, as Erebus faced the spell, he was at the whims of the enemy, and the enemy at the whims of Erebus.

What had happened was unique, and quite literally a mystery to the Giant. Erebus had stolen the blast’s power and taken it straight with him into a 5th dimension, Astrid and Kanna would see the bomb, but would not feel it at all— passing over them harmlessly, but would likely see Erebus fall in this process as the side of the cliff would go down in a huge natural disaster.

His last attempt to aide the others, was only partly efficient. The giant picked a frozen stiff Erebus up and landed a walloping elbow to his left temple— then front kicked him away with a force, so much that it throws him over the cliff-side of the Void just as the Frost giant lunges backwards and grabs the cliff-hanging over the side— staring into a black nothingness beneath, enough strength that it’s body can hang with one arm over the side, even if sight was obstructed from vision.

He turns to look up, and climbs his way to the surface in order to stare Kanna down and Astrid.

The malevolent fusion of Oddr’s peak, and the void hellscape changes again, as it turns the surface of the ground pure black and the final giant, fuses the mana the Void has been consuming (Astrid’s) and uses the charged power of Astrid to undergo a transformation.

Astrid and Kanna would be looking upon a purple frost elemental— coated in pulsing black smoke, the last of the Frost Giants, and empowered by the Void with the engagement of Astrid’s magic, a product of her own horror.

Meanwhile:
Erebus is flung through the air, his vision is going out and in as the Apex is losing electricity. Leaving the others to finish the last Giant, finally his consciousness would go under. Segregating him from the known path, his way home.

The Frost Giant targeting him prior, moved in a flash to run, a juggernaut of strength and speed, to deliver a physical strike to both Astrid and Kanna independent of each other, and switching between each between landed strikes or successful evasions.

It costs a certain amount of mana to let a certain amount of damage phase through. The cooldown applies in general. This means that during the cooldown, the user cannot use this spell at all.
  • S - 500MP to let it phase through, 4 cooldown.
