Targa
Targa stood alone in one of the grand halls of Amaforth Academy's College of Destruction, the ambient glow of enchanted sconces casting dancing shadows across the arcane symbols etched into the stone walls that made them more durable to put up with the students magical mishaps. The academy was a masterpiece of ancient architecture and modern magic, a place where the brightest minds honed the most destructive of spells. Yet, amidst this nexus of controlled chaos, Targa felt an uncontrollable storm brewing within her. A not so forgotten feeling pulsed beneath her dark skin, flickering like a dying ember threatening to ignite into an inferno once again.

Perched on her shoulder was Monty, her ever loyal moogle companion. His tiny wings fluttered nervously, and his pom-pom bobbed with concern. "Kupo, you've been quiet all evening. What's on your mind?" Before she could respond, a sudden surge of energy coursed through her body. She gasped as sparks of invisible Crash Magic erupted from her fingertips, searing the air with crackling sounds. The uncontrolled burst scorched the stone floor, leaving behind a smoldering mark. Clutching her chest, Targa staggered back, memories of the agony before she became a vampire flooding her senses.

Monty hovered off her shoulder to face her, worry plastered across his face. "It's happening again, isn't it? The magic is becoming unstable... you told me about this in your past but I thought your sister fixed this turning you kupo!" She nodded in pain. "I can't control it anymore, Monty. The Crash Magic... it's tearing me apart from the inside. It feels worse then when I transformed for Ittindi for the first time" Monty fluttered closer, placing a tiny paw on her cheek to feel her temperature. "We need to find a Professor. They'll know what to do." Targa took a deep breath, steadying herself. "You're right. Let's find the most knowledgeable mentor in the College of Destruction that's here. If anyone can help, it's most likely the college lore master down in the library."

As they reached the lore masters private study, Targa hesitated. The door, made of old oak and engraved with protective runes, seemed more imposing than ever. She heard that the lore master used a form of letter magic. She knocked lightly. "Professor? It's Targa. May I come in?" A moment later, the door opened on its own, revealing a room cluttered with tomes, alchemical instruments, and shimmering crystals. The lore master sat behind a massive desk. "Targa, Monty, what brings you here at this hour?"

Targa stepped inside, Monty flying close behind. "Professor, something's wrong with my magic. The Crash Magic is becoming unstable again. I just had an uncontrolled surge in the hall." The lore master gestured for her to sit in a high backed chair made of wicker. It felt out of place in his chamber being the most ordinary of furniture... cheap even. "Tell me everything." She recounted the past incidents; the sudden bursts of energy, the pain reminiscent of her pre-vampire affliction. The lore master listened intently, occasionally nodding. Monty chimed in with observations of what he saw just moments before, obviously concerned for his companion. "It's coming back, kupo. I'm worried about her." When she finished, the professor leaned back thoughtfully. "I had hoped this day wouldn't come when you entered into the Academy, but it appears the inherent volatility of Crash Magic is taking its toll. Especially on someone with your unique... condition is concerning."

Targa's eyes narrowed. The pink set on the black were drilling holes into the teacher. "You knew this could happen? That the magic might become unstable again?" He sighed heavily. "Crash Magic is among the most destructive and unpredictable forms of arcane energy. For a vampire, whose body has already undergone unnatural transformation, wielding such power is exponentially riskier. Yes, it saved your life but all it did was build a damn. That magic is a river, a destructive river that has broken the damn and is now flowing again." She stood abruptly, flinging the chair backwards. "Then why allow me to train it here at all? Why let me continue down this path if it was doomed from the start?"

The lore master met her gaze unphased by the outburst. He understood but also knew she was no threat to him and how strong he was compared to the pup of a mage. "Because I hoped in your potential to master it, to perhaps even overcome its limitations on your body. But the signs are clear: continuing to use Crash Magic will lead to your demise. Some people are just born unlucky. You were born with magic, you didn't just study it. You weren't taught it. But it was born into a body that can't handle it. It's tragic but the truth." Monty flew between them, his tiny arms outstretched as if to diffuse the tension. "There must be another way, kupo! Isn't there an alternative source of magic she can use?" The professors expression softened as he looked at the moogle. "Perhaps." He stood and moved toward a concealed door behind a tapestry depicting a phoenix rising from ashes. "Follow me."

They descended a spiral staircase into the academy's lower chambers, a place where few students were permitted. The air grew cooler, and the walls transitioned from polished marble to raw stone imbued with faintly glowing sigils. They entered a cavernous room where the very atmosphere hummed with latent power. In the center stood a circular platform inscribed with complex runes that shifted and rearranged themselves like a living puzzle. Eldrin motioned for Targa to step onto it. "This arcane matrix will analyze your magical essence." Monty perched on a nearby pedestal, his eyes wide. "Be careful, Targa." She nodded, stepping into the center. The runes beneath her feet began to glow, and beams of light spiraled upward, enveloping her in a luminescent cocoon. Then, without warning, the energy around her twisted. The light turned a sickly shade of crimson, and the room shook. Yarga cried out as a jolt of pain shot through her. The Crash Magic within her reacted violently to the probing energies. Cracks formed in the platform, and sparks rained down like stars. The professor wiped sweat from his brow. "Your magic is not just unstable; it's corrupted. The Crash Magic is feeding off your vampiric essence, creating a volatile amalgam that's attracting dark elemental forces."

Before they could regroup, a distant alarm screeched that signified a breach in the academy's defenses. Turning to Targa and her moogle friend "The corrupted magic has drawn elementals into the academy. They're being pulled toward you. Wait here while I go dispatch them." He'd leave to meet up with other present upper rank students at the academy, and professors, to begin fending off the elementals.
