Kon

Things had improved somewhat both with the weather and the relations between the owners of the Snowy Peaks and Kon, who was a current occupant of the establishment. He had earnt a fair amount of jewels just the other day enough to allow him to stay for a few more days, though he didn’t think he would need that long considering he would be heading out as soon as the winter cleared a bit more to head to Sieghart Mountains. It was true that Nanuq town was essentially a frozen town hostile to life but the mountains were something else all together. He had been in those mountains only once before in the attempt to fight off a villain who seeked to destroy the entirety of Fiore however he didn’t truly do anything with other more powerful mages playing a far greater role in defeating him.

Because of the dangerous nature of the Sieghart mountains he would purchase some equipment that he previously lacked unfortunately this would require him to complete yet again another request in Nanuq and the only remaining mission in the town was that of cleaning some healing huts, the description of that was written on the paper for it was brief but enough to understand that it was something he didn’t really want to do, but he had no real other option. The request paper said the following:

“Seeking help,

Jewels reward: 25,000 J

After an outbreak of the snowbeak snake on the outskirts of Nanuq town, the healing huts in Nanuq are requested to any individuals capable to clean the huts and the healing instruments with the healers unable due to them needing to heal those affected by the bites of the snakes. Any participants will be rewarded handsomely and receive a thorough medical inspection upon completion of a day's work after the outbreak has been contained.

Kaita.”

“Manual Labor” Kon groaned as he read the description from the board. Rolling his eyes he grabbed the paper and slid it into his side pocket before heading out of the inn where the board was housed. With each passing moment that he stayed in this town he drew to loathe it more and more, he just simply hoped that he could leave it sooner rather than later. The people were nice and all but it was just something about the town went against his fibre likely down to him just simply not liking the climate more than anything.

The reward itself didn't help either with it only being a mere 25,000 jewels. He had completed requests where he had earnt almost ten times that amount. Ignoring the feelings he harboured for the town he made his way over to the healing huts. The walk through the town was dull with little in the way of decorations, merely just wall after wall of ice and snow. The occasional citizen walked past him from time to time with various amounts of urgency often there were even groups with people being carried obviously to the huts for healing.

Reaching the healing huts there was a growing number of people out front pleading for helping. Needing to get inside, he squeezed and wormed his way to the front guarded by two muscle men. Removing the paper from his pocket showed the closest of them who promptly let him in.

Kon

With a sigh, he moved over to the area he had been assigned and looked in horror. It would be far from fun after all he wasn't used to work of this type, he was far more suited at least in his opinion to more clerical work inside writing or helping others in the chaos of battle. The section he would be healing was covered in a thick layer of home-made remedies as well as various bodily fluids including pus, blood and even bile in one corner. Turning his nose at the sudden assault he experienced from the combined filth, he began to look around while keeping his face covered by his gloved hands.

He was looking for something to help block the smell typically a balm was used underneath the nose but he would need more…, no he would need much more, not just the balm but also a facemask and even goggles. Not wanting to wreck his attire by getting even a single scrap of dirt onto them, he removed a majority of his clothing rendering him temporarily nude before donning a full body hazmat suit include boots, full face mask and gloves which he wore over his other pair.

Finally he would begin his work by first collecting the cleaning equipment before pouring the only hot water available in the entire town from the healing huts taps into two blue wheelie buckets already filled with a portion of cleaning fluid. Buckets having been filled roughly three quarters of the way full, he turned off the taps, swirled around the water mixing the cleaner with it before dropping a mop into the two of them, pushing them towards his area. Hot steam trailed after the buckets denoting the heat different between the water inside them and the temperature in the hut, reaching his area after a brief brisk walk he swiftly threw down the mops either side of them holding each in one hand and started to swipe left to right with the two of them going further into the room as he did so.

Anytime he hit a big spot of muck or he felt the mops were getting to dirty he would drop them back into the buckets. Eventually however he managed to complete the task of cleaning the floors now it would be time for him to start cleaning the medical utensils a more unpleasant task with the mop allowing him to stand away from the duty a bit. Despite the added displeasure he had towards the job he managed to complete the job without a single injury. Completing his job, he entered a special room where he could completely sterilise himself and the suit he was wearing. As he changed back into his clothing inside the room, he watched as the healers performed on their patients with varying degrees of success.

Having done his work he had been assigned, he met up with Kaita who promptly thanked Kon after doing a quick inspection of the room before rewarding him and releasing him from his duties though reminding him of the other reward offered in the note specifically with them offering a free inspection. After giving it a moment's consideration, he declined the offer instead commenting on how he would prefer to use the favor for another time. Wanting to leave the huts before the weather worsened once more and return to his fiancee, he bid his farewell to both Kaita and the rest of the staff before departing with his wallet ever so slightly fuller.
