Sometimes plans need to be made out of multiple layers, and this was one such plan. After her assignment as Captain of the Interrogation Department Esperia had decided to take the next step in her plan. One benefit to becoming a member of the Rune Knights was the fact she gained access to the Dungeons of Era, where often criminals were left to sit out the sentence they received for their crime. Of course, most of them were petty compared to the real criminals that were sent to a specialized prison.

For Esperia it didn't matter. All the assets she needed for her scheme were present. Walking down the staircase leading into the dungeons while she was flanked by two guards whose face was concealed underneath their full-plate helmets, the woman stopped in front of one of the cells.

"Finally my time for release?" A masculine voice muttered from within the cell, leading Esperia's gaze to soften as the source of the voice revealed himself. A middle-aged man was seated against the wall at the opposite side of the cell, wearing his prisoner's rags as he climbed onto his feet.

"Not exactly~ We got some... questions for you... Tomoe Tanaka~"

The man blinked in bewilderment as he approached the bars. "Hah, me? Tomoe Tanaka? You have some interesting imagination missy. Do you think a dude like that would be left in the Era Dungeon? That bounty alone could make a fortune!"

Esperia gestured quietly at the guards who opened the cell door. "We can discuss the details in my office~ I think we'll have plenty to talk about."

The man seemed bewildered as the guards approached him, flanking him on each side and roughly pushing him out of the cell. Although there was initially some hope in the man's eyes, the moment he saw they were not going upwards to the Rune Knights their headquarters, but deeper downwards the man realized the harsh reality of the situation: They were heading to the torture chambers.

Esperia smiled briefly as she noticed the man gulp, and then the door closed harshly behind the trio as Esperia stepped over to the nearby table. She took a seat, letting the man be forced to sit at the chair opposite of her, and soon started speaking.

"It took us a while to figure things out~ Pretty clever, even if I do say so begrudgingly. It's not every day I praise a criminal like that." The man looked at her in bewilderment as the woman leaned closer to the table, pressing her elbows down onto it and letting her chin rest on the back of her hands. "To think you'd disguise yourself as a wanted man, then again his crimes were far less than yours."

Indeed, the man before her was accused of murder, familicide in fact. He had murdered his own family, which Esperia considered nothing short of an unforgivable sin. But his identity was not that of Tomoe Tanaka, at least... not yet.

The man blinked in bewilderment as she said these words. "Wait I told you already- My name is Kyle Katarn, I'm supposed to be on bail soon. Sat out my bounty and everything!"

Esperia sighed softly, rising from her seat. "Still unwilling to admit the truth? I guess you'll need some convincing."

A few hours passed as inhuman screams pierced the dungeons of Era, and then they finally died down, leaving only feeble sobs in their wake. In the same interrogation room as before the vampire was seated, calmly observing the sobbing man as she twirled a small vial containing a crimson liquid in her hand. "So~ Who are you: Kyle Katarn, or..."

The man sobbed feebly, his gaze clearly vacant as if his mind had been broken. "My name... is Tomoe Tanaka..."

Perfect, step one was complete, now to prepare the next phase of her plan. "So Tomoe, you were formerly a member of the Midnight Cult, right?"

The man nodded his head weakly. "We... wanted to release HER, our goddess from her prison... sacrifice Earthland for her goodwill..."

As the man uttered the words feebly Esperia rose up from her seat, stepping next to the table as she gently leaned down next to the man. "You weren't alone in this endeavor, right? Odin and his kindred: The Eternal Nightmare were secretly helping you."

The man muttered softly. "Yes... they were... members of the cult..."

Perfect, just what she needed. But she still needed to do something to make her scheme complete.

Esperia gently lifted the man's chin to face her, her crimson eyes giving a subtle glow. "It's alright Tomoe, help me out by testifying and I will be very pleased." With her charm starting to take effect she leaned in, allowing her vampiric fangs to appear as she gently bit down onto the man's neck.

A pained cry came from the man as his body spasmed, and only a few moments later she gently poured the contents of the vial into his mouth. Her experiments proved to be working, for the man in front of her turned into an exact physical replica of Tomoe Tanaka, thanks to the blood she had of him. Of course, she had been forced to turn this prisoner into a vampire, but he was still enthralled by her, and with the blood allowing him to change his body into that of Tomoe's, the trap had been prepared.

"I'm going to take you somewhere safe Tomoe, then during the trial, I would like for you to testify for me and reveal what you told me today."

Tomoe turned his gaze up at her, his eyes looking straight into her own. "Will I... be free if I do that?"

Esperia nodded her head gently. "Yes~ You will be free after the trial."

Although as she turned away from the man and prepared to escort him her expression darkened. That man would become free of living...
