Ikazuchi
Ikazuchi’s gaze was fixed in the distance as if seeking something, lost in thought. He took in his surroundings perfectly as the details of the ship within twenty five meters instinctively mapped in his mind. After his bout with Drakkon, he had stepped into the realm reserved for those at the pinnacle of skill. During the time since, he naturally adjusted to his newfound capabilities and stabilized his progress through long hours of meditation and training. Someone like himself was commonly referred to as a God of War in history, particularly when standing on a battlefield due to the domain they naturally establish.

Currently though, his focus was an area far outside of this domain. ‘Joya…’ He felt mixed feelings as he recalled the countless tales of his father, someone who was born and raised there. As he grew up, Ikazuchi understood that a lot of what his father spoke of had been romanticized by both his father and his own childish imagination. His father was skilled, but not particularly strong. It was only natural that there were embellishments in the stories for the sake of Ikazuchi’s entertainment.

As he grew older, he subconsciously found himself avoiding the country. He immersed himself in the tales of his father and some of the traditions passed down to him, but a part of him didn’t want to face reality after his father passed. This likely would have continued for a much longer time had he not encountered something that he had to seek out, regardless of his feelings. It was something he noticed during an inspection of his Cloud Ring that had been inherited from his father. It contained similar principles to those reflected in the spirit formation technique. As someone who repaired one and practiced the other, he naturally connected the two. It was something that he hadn’t encountered during his many adventures, nor had any other item contained similar patterns for the mana.

That meant that regardless of his feelings, it was time for him to visit whatever may remain of his father’s clan. Although he didn’t ever hear much from the man, he was certain that he must still have blood relatives; something that he had confirmed through information brokers in recent months. That was precisely why he was enroute towards the country from the Guild Hall in Seven. For this trip, he had decided against utilizing his wyvern mount as it would prevent him from continuing his training during that time. It was also possible for him to gain more information by interacting with others if he chose to do so.

In fact, he chose to remain in the open area on the deck of the ship specifically for the sake of interacting with others. While he wasn’t actively seeking anyone out, he could rely on many details to grasp the potential of anyone that he inspected. In some ways, there were few in the world which could understand as much about others at a glance as he could due to his unique advantages. What he needed was someone who may be able to assist during his time in Joya with either extensive knowledge or influence. ‘What are the chances though?’ This thought lingered in the back of his mind as he continued to meditate and observe his surroundings.

Yijun
The day didn't seem bad and Yijun was glad that he was getting a bit of down time before he is named the captain of his division but he had to wonder if he had really proven himself enough to take the seat and be taken seriously by his peers, he knows he had worked hard on raising up the ranks but he still had a lot of growing to do but today wasn't about that and he was going to be taking an airship and take a bit of a trip even if it was just to cruise around a bit and give himself time to think and see more things as a captain he will be far more busy so in a way this was him going on a journey like the monks liked to do to put their spirits at ease and center themselves to be in the right place with their spirit and their faith.

He made sure that his ancient shield was tight to his back so he didn't bump anyone with the heavy shield as he was looking to get in any trouble on this get away to get right with himself though he can sense his naginata was feeling something and he had no idea what it could be and he wasn't really worried about it as if it was danger then he would call upon his weapon but he didn't think that he would need it and he was clearly in his convocation uniform. He was not going to back down if someone were to challenge him and he looked around the ship as he was on instinct making sure the ship was in order even if he wasn't really on duty right now even though he could still act like he was on duty if he had too as really he was never really off duty.

He saw someone pick pocketing some of the people on the ship and he followed after the man that had been pick pocketing people, he was only following to see if there were more of them working with him. Yijun had been following and watching as the man kept at it and then Yijun saw that he dropped the stolen goods in a plant on the end of a bench and Yijun leaned against a wall and he waited as she saw some one else come along and reach in and that is when Yijun put his hand out and his tattoo glowed and his naginata appeared in his hand and Yijun moved forward with his naginata resting on his shoulder. Yijun spoke out in a commanding tone toward the one grabbing for the things stashed in the plant. "I think those don't belong to you!" The person tried to run away and Yijun spun the naginata in his palm and then threw the weapon and it got caught between the mans legs and they fell to the ground and the naginata disappeared and back into the tattoo.

Yijun called to the guards on board who ran over and delt with them and thanked Yijun by his name and current division and Yijun waved his hand as there wasn't any need for that as he was only out here and around of duty and there was no need for the praise of the guard he didn't love for that kind of thing he just wanted to be able to have fun and maybe a bit of an adventure, he took a seat on the bench of the ship and he looked out to the horizon as he needed to wonder why he seems to invite trouble.

Ikazuchi

Through his domain, Ikazuchi captured a rather unique incident. A running man entered the periphery just to be tripped by a skillfully thrown Naginata. ‘That’s a rare one…’ His closed eyes opened and shifted towards the direction where the weapon originated from. His brows were slightly furrowed as he intently observed the person. He knew at a glance that this man belonged to the guild which represents Joya known as The Shinigami Convocation thanks to his unique gift. Considering the goal of his trip, Ikazuchi was naturally interested in interacting with the man after noticing him due to this fact. This feeling grew exponentially when he observed the weapon’s swift disappearance as if recalled into an alternate space of some kind.

‘It wasn’t a spell… Maybe a unique function of the weapon? Or is it another item?’ As a blacksmith, the limited details he gleaned from the weapon at a glance led to a desire to thoroughly inspect the weapon. Unique weapons like that one were always the best source of inspiration. Not to mention, as a swordsman, he was curious about one of the few polearms that was commonly associated with swords. His Sword Spirit which had remained stationary behind his back moved slightly as if agitated, clearly expressing the subtle desire to fight that had grown.

‘...Not now though…’ As he forcefully suppressed that desire, his sword spirit gradually calmed as well. He couldn’t help but feel slightly bitter about the fact that this spirit of his was even more direct about his feelings than he was. Anyone with familiarity regarding spirits, especially someone who could recognize the connection between him and it, would have a much easier time reading some of his thoughts and desires as it operated based on his will and intent rather than direct commands. In its current embryonic form, it truthfully didn’t assist much in combat. Rather, it could almost be entirely disregarded. While it did allow him to smoothly breakthrough to his current realm, it couldn’t provide any notable combat benefits. While it could be disregarded for combat potential currently, that didn’t mean it wasn’t important. Rather, achieving a breakthrough with it was the exact reason why he found himself on this trip today.

‘I think I will introduce myself at least…’ Ikazuchi rose to his feet without making a sound, a rather respectable feat considering his fully armored state and the weight of his equipment. He made his way towards the man known as Yijun seated on the bench without any additional consideration for whether the man wanted to be approached. Since the guild was re-established and his bounty was cleared, he had spent most of his time training. His most recent public appearance was during his public duel against Drakkon. ‘That old bounty of mine wouldn’t cause me any problems today, right?’ As a member of The Shinigami Convocation, Ikazuchi imagined that it was more likely that the man had access to bounty information due to the relation the guild had with the country and ruling power.

It wasn’t long before Ikazuchi arrived at a spot where the man could see him and spoke casually with a friendly smile. “Hey there, my name’s Ikazuchi. Mind if I join you?” He gestured to the empty spot on the bench as he waited for a response. He wouldn’t move to take the seat until Yijun accepted, but he also hadn’t considered for a second that the man could refuse his request.

Yijun
Yijun found the bench a bit hard but he figured that making it padded would be a mess, as this ship sails the sky so the seat would probably get wet and the padding would absorb the water and make the seat miserable to on. He wondered if his division could make something that wouldn't absorb the water and still be able to have the seat to be comfortable for one to sit on though he doubted that they would really allow him to do that as it is really not his or the factions problem but he thinks it would make it easier on the elderly and people that are taking long trips on this ship he was sure that might allow him to get a bit of time to work on it but Yijun can tell that these meaningless thoughts would have to be held off till later as it seemed he was about to have to deal with a bit of company as it seemed that he had gained someone's attention he hadn't looked at the man yet that was coming toward him but he was going to have to just relax.

Yijun had seen that he had drawn someone's eye and he looked at the armored man walked toward him and he wondered why Ikazuchi of Sleeping Calamity would be walking up to him. Yijun put his shield off to the side of the bench and he looked the man in the eyes. "Oh why would you want to join me? Ikazuchi was it you said? The bench is free if you want to sit though I don't see why you would want to join me but the space is free for you to sit." Yijun wondered what this man would want with him but if the man had come up to him this must mean a few things. Either this was just a chance meeting, this man was looking to attack someone to help his guild return to it's dark and Yijun was just a target that walked himself in just at the right place and the right time, or he wanted something from him and Yijun had to ponder what the man would need.

Yijun kept himself ready to call his naginata out if this was about to become a fight. Yijun doubted the man would have spoke out if it was a fight that he sought from the data he had seen about the man, he was usually more honorable than to attack someone that was not ready or hadn't agreed to fight him so if this time was different he would need to update the data to show that he has had a shift in his moral standing and shouldn't be allowed close with ones guard down. Yijun was not going to worry and he relaxes once the man was to take his seat and Yijun wondered what could be wanted of him as he doesn't have anything that a swordsmen would want or any trouble with Sleep Calamity. He would do what he could without causing any trouble or a fight to break out between them and that would be what it was simple as it could be and that needed to be it.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi almost wanted to laugh at the wariness expressed through Yijun’s demeanor. It seemed that he had been recognized for his previous reputation. ‘I guess this will be an interesting conversation.’ He naturally wasn’t concerned about being attacked either since he could observe the surroundings clearer than almost anyone else, so he sat in the open space in a relaxed manner. The lack of guard was due to the confidence he had in himself. He simply looked out towards the horizon similar to how Yijun had been when he approached before speaking.

It’s a long flight with nothing to do, some conversation to pass the time never hurt anyone, right?” With that said, he didn’t think he needed to explain himself much more than he already had. “You caught that thief in style with your naginata earlier, are you supposed to be extra security for the airship?” Ikazuchi’s attention naturally shifted to the tattoo on Yijun’s arm, even though he couldn’t glean any additional information from it. Naturally, this wouldn’t be captured as it was just his focus through the mental mapping of his domain. He hadn’t even stopped to consider how this may seem for the man who was interacting with a formerly wanted individual such as himself.

He only intended to start a bit of small talk before shifting the topic to Joya to see if the man could provide any useful information for his trip. He hadn’t had any interactions with The Shinigami Convocation before today, so he would prefer to avoid unintentionally earning another bounty now that he had enjoyed his time without one. If needed, he would even consider inviting Yijun along for the sake of convenience. As far as Ikazuchi was concerned, it was simple enough to provide a reward that would justify the time if that did ultimately happen. As a skilled blacksmith, if all else failed, he could simply craft an item according to Yijun’s requests.

Yijun
Yijun heard what the man said about conversations not hurting anyone and he wondered and then he spoke to the other man. "Well if you had a voice activated magic or wind magic it could probably hurt someone to have a conversation. Though outside of that I don't think it would hurt anyone just eat up their time and maybe distract from the amount of time that was being used to focus or just enjoy the ride that we are on." Yijun was speaking logically but was more testing the other man's social skills and ability to be patient with someone that might not really be giving what you want to get from a random conversation that was unprompted by one party.

He heard the man speak of the capture of the thief and Yijun blinked and then rubbed his chin a bit. "I guess I did do that. No I am not on this ship to work or anything I am on a spirit journey of sorts. I guess I would be on something akin to a spiritual awakening journey that I need to undertake." He was trying not to speak to much as he was not looking to lose his grasp on a promotion that he had just gotten told he was going to get before he was even in the spot or spill a secret of the faction that he is part of to someone that was outside of the organization that had no need to know what he was talking about or doing.

He figured that from how the man had been looking at the Tattoo that he wanted to know about his naginata as well so he put his arm out and had it appear. "Be careful it had a mind of it's own and has seen a lot of fights in this time and another." He knows that naginata has tasted and devoured the blood and flesh of dragons, so it is a strong weapon that if he keeps working at to master he will grow with it and hope that it grows in power for him as well.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi was unsure what to say to Yijun’s literal statements regarding conversation, especially since it wasn’t technically wrong. ‘He’s an odd guy, huh?’ He didn’t linger on it as the conversation quickly shifted to Yijun’s actions, and was surprised to hear that his reason for traveling was similar. ‘Spiritual awakening, huh?’ He would use that to segue into his own reason once he had the opportunity. The conversation paused for a moment, and Yijun seemed to notice Ikazuch’s attention as he voluntarily summoned that distinct naginata forth once more.

How intriguing…” His gaze blatantly revealed his curiosity as his eyes gravitated to it, inspecting it with fervor. He didn’t reach for it in any way as that was something he considered rude as a warrior, not to mention they weren’t familiar enough for the man to simply hand his weapon to Ikazuchi. At least, that’s how Ikazuchi was thinking. He took in all of the details, techniques, and even the faint mana that naturally radiated from the weapon and couldn’t help but nod. “That’s a good weapon.” He didn’t say it, but he wasn’t confident in replicating a weapon like that without extensive research. Too many factors play a part in its creation and power, so he naturally felt more respect for the craftsman who created it as well as the man before him who earned its recognition. It was only a brief pause after he praised it when he spoke again. “Thank you for allowing me to see it. It had caught my eye earlier considering the fact that it’s a fairly rare weapon in general, not to mention one of such quality.

With his curiosity sated, he naturally relaxed a bit and was able to think about getting back on track. “You mentioned earlier that you’re traveling for something like a spiritual awakening, right?” A cheeky grin formed as he willed his sword spirit to move into focus, hovering in the air in front of the two. “I’m actually traveling here for the same reason. This here, this is my…spirit?” His eyebrow furrowed as he considered a better way to explain it. “Well, it’s something like a spirit, and what I’m looking for is a method to strengthen and awaken it.” Ikazuchi didn’t hesitate to share his motivation since they shared that, even if it was likely different. Either way, there was a chance that Yijun may have useful information if it was even slightly similar to his own circumstance.

Yijun
Yijun wondered what the man really thought of the weapon as he claimed it was a good weapon and Yijun hadn't really ever shown off his weapon before not like it wanted to be shown off even if it was something that was probably a bit more on the legendary and one of a kind side of the fence, Yijun wasn't going to brag about his weapon as it was something that he should probably keep the history that he knew of it more hidden. Yijun hearing that the man was also here for a similar reason made him wonder if maybe a leak had happened on the awakening technique. Yijun would have to look into that when he was back in his division but he knows that nothing really can be done now he just needed to be careful about the man that he was now on this trip with.

"Just watch out for what you might find, as you might end up possessed more that you are in control of it." Yijun figured giving the man a warning about playing with spirits so he wouldn't be over taken as it only goes so far to have a strong will and skills, one needed to have a strong soul as well as mind, or you might be tricked at the finish line and end up a puppet more than a master, Yijun wasn't overly spiritual but he has helped to fight against some spirits which is how he learned to use his magic as a more cursed being and that was something of an oddity to be helping monks who had not expected him to be able to use magic in the ways that he could like healing and protection. Yijun knew the monks knew they hadn't helped him learn magic so he was self taught and he used these lessons to help others with them.

Yijun looked down at the ship and he wondered if the man would want company as maybe he would be able to find what he was looking for. "Do you mind if I join you further on this journey that you are on? Maybe I will at least find some threat I can follow myself." He was offering this for two reasons one so he could keep an eye on this man to make sure that he doesn't get possessed and used as a puppet and the second reason is this man might be a threat in the future so he wanted to learn what he could while he can so he is not fully surprised by what this man might be capable of.

Ikazuchi restrained a chuckle at Yijun’s warning, only revealing a slight smile as he nodded in acknowledgement. There seemed to be a misunderstanding about the nature of his sword spirit that Ikazuchi created. He was naturally connected to the spirit, and its origin was himself. As a condensation of his mana and swordsmanship that shares a profound connection to his will, it was one of the few things that would never betray him. In the initial technique that he used to create it, there was even mention of alternative options which would separate a piece of the user’s own soul to merge and create a separate sentient spirit. Of course, Ikazuchi wasn’t interested in such a thing. Compared to his current sword spirit, a sentient one would feel more like an external assistant during battle. Since he could avoid that, he naturally didn’t give other options any consideration.

I will make sure to be careful, but it should be safe.” Since he received genuine advice and concern, Ikazuchi made sure to similarly acknowledge and address it. If it was a spirit that placed him in any danger, he would have long since avoided it. When he heard the offer to accompany him, Ikazuchi was somewhat excited despite the thought that crossed his mind. ‘Am I the threat he’s planning to follow for now?’

That would be great honestly. I haven’t been through the area much, and having you along may be able to smooth some things out for me along the way.” His tone was calm and friendly as he continued. “The specific place I’m going is a village where my father’s family should be residing.” For a moment, he felt this simple explanation was sufficient, and that continued until he realized that it sounded like he was just on a family vacation. “I’ve never actually met them. I learned about them more by coincidence than anything else, and they may have leads on the spirit advancement techniques I’m looking for.” He felt relieved after explaining to an acceptable degree, planning to continue discussing the finer details of his plans and carrying on conversation until they arrive at their destination in Joya.

Yijun
Yijun guessed that there was not really anything else that he was doing so he guessed that this was a decent path that he could take as going around and maybe leading the other man might sound a bit of trouble but he knows that there are worse ways that one could use their time and since the other man seemed to be done looking at the weapon her had put he stored it back in his arm tattoo to keep it safe and out of the way. Yijun looked at the man when he said that he was going to be careful Yijun guessed he also couldn't ask for more from him than that. He knows that he himself had a lot that needed to be figured out and solved but he was going to make sure that he didn't get in the man's way and lead him the best her could without setting off anything that could be avoided.

Yijun was sure that even if the man hadn't met them before that he might have sent word ahead to have them welcome him. Yijun thought a second time on it and it sounded more like the man was going to be dropping in unannounced and after the reign of the last shogun that might not be so well looked upon, but if trouble did happen he was going to make sure to defend the man and make the most of what he could do, even though he knows that Ikazuchi wasn't some slouch that couldn't handle himself Yijun also figures that striking down people that might be blood related to him might make him hesitant to let himself fight at the full power that he could. "Well lets hope that they will be welcoming if they still exist after the last shogun's purge."

"Lets hope if you find anything about the thing you are after, that you will able to use it, though if it is like how you say it might be, the last Shogun might have stolen it or destroyed it if she couldn't use it." Yijun had no idea of what the last shogun might have done with it if she found it but he knows that from him going through her collection that she wasn't shy about taking and destroying powerful teaching tools that could risk her safe seat and rule of the land she was in. He looked at the path ahead and he wondered if this man was just wasting his time coming out this far only to find no survivors or the teaching tools destroyed or stolen. Maybe he had even seen them in the things that he was cataloging in the division that he was about to take over, if it was lost he was not sure if he could help the man in anyway to get it back or to get it back for him.

Ikazuchi

‘Purge?’ Ikazuchi wasn’t familiar with the recent events of most countries, not to mention Joya and their previous ruler. In this case, he was operating on recent intel that confirmed the existence of the family, but it was completely possible that it had sustained damages during the events of whatever purge Yijun referred to. “Based on the recent information I obtained, I know some of them still live in the area…” Ikazuchi sighed at this point. “...I just don’t know if whatever purge you’re referring to would have impacted them at all. Outside of a few stories from my father when I was young, I don’t know much about them.

Following what Ikazuchi said in response, Yijun continued speaking about his concerns as the technique Ikazuchi was seeking would generally be considered a rare and valuable treasure. ‘He’s not wrong, under normal circumstances.’ Ikazuchi was slightly concerned, but he was also certain that his family would be more than just safe if they were able to utilize the technique to its full potential. If one looked at his current capabilities and the fact that he reached the pinnacle thanks to the first stage, it was clearly not something to be underestimated.

"Well, if he took it then it's just a matter of finding it. If it still exists here, even if he took the record, it should be possible to recreate the technique and pass it on as it's based on knowledge and skill." Ikazuchi rose to his feet and moved near the railing of the ship as he contemplated the trip further. ‘Nothing’s ever easy, is it?’ For just a moment, there was a sense of defeat and amusement intermingled as he finally accepted that this trip would likely not be peaceful even if he succeeded.

In the distance, he could see the dock for the airship that they would soon arrive at and faintly feel the trouble ahead. He shook his head gently left and then right to deny his premonition as he turned to face his new traveling companion and addressed him for what would likely be the final time before they arrived. “I know we agreed to travel together, but I didn’t quite catch your name earlier…” He stepped forward and offered his right hand for a hand shake. “Once again, my name is Ikazuchi. Thank you for coming along with me today, I appreciate it.

Yijun
Yijun looked at the man and he wondered how recent the man had gotten this intel but if it was recently he guessed that the place and people might still be there. "The last Shogun was paranoid about people over throwing her so she would kill or enslave those that she thought would be able to do that. If your intel is just recently than they might still be around just keep in mind I might not look good or be welcomed by some people as the old Shogun still has people that were loyal to her and because I am a daemon." He wanted to make sure that the man knew that he might not be warmly welcomed if he was walking with Yijun as she was both part of the new ruling power as well as a dark race. He knows that it seemed not to bother this man that he was a daemon but not all people see it that way and he rather not have the man get surprised if there was someone that didn't trust him for one way or the other as they might be scared that the new shogun might be coming after people like the old one had.

"He? the last shogun and the current shogun are both females. But your point still stands if there is some proof of it somewhere we can recreate it. Or I pull some strings and see what I can do to help get it back for you since it was yours by birth." He was not sure what strings that he could pull to really help this man but he figured that he was allowed some sort of thing but that was only so much that he could do but he would have the access to deep dive into the archives of the division so maybe he would be able to dig something up.

He heard the man say his name again and was saying he hadn't caught Yijun's name and he realized he had forgotten to say his own name. "Oh how rude of me, I am Yijun." He reached out and took the other man's hand to shake it. Yijun had gotten caught up in the other details that he forgot to introduce himself but he was sure, if the man had already knew his name but hadn't wanted to say that he knew the man's name. He wondered if once they landed how this journey was going to go and if this man was going to find what he was looking for or if this was something that was going to have to be dealt with, with a very long drawn out treasure hunt for this thing that Ikazuchi was looking for. Yijun was going to make sure that he took mental notes as they go along so maybe later he can learn something from this little trip even if it was probably not the trip he thought that he was going to be going on.

Ikazuchi

Yijun’s warning was something that Ikazuchi kept in mind. He didn’t grow up interacting with his family, and his father had left many years ago. Even if part of them remained, there wasn’t a guarantee that they would be direct relatives or willing to accept his presence. ‘Well, I’m not visiting to develop those connections anyways…’ In comparison to the strangers that his father chose to cut ties with, Ikazuchi had a better impression of the Daemon he met here today. He naturally wasn’t surprised by the revelation and accepted it readily as he responded.

The last update I received was within the last few months, but it came from a third party broker…” Ikazuchi couldn’t help but sigh as he strongly implied that those finer details were excluded. Approaching the man was already showing positive results as he could prepare for what was to come. A moment later, Yijun followed up by correcting his lack of knowledge along with support for what he had expressed. ‘I really should have researched more before I arrived…’ His avoidance of the country was even more evident as he made a mistake regarding the identity of the previous Shogun. He had heard rumors of the current one, but that was only due to the various rumors that floated around the continent over the years.

Following this, Ikazuchi reintroduced himself and received a similar introduction from Yijun. Almost immediately following the interaction, Ikazuchi continued to speak. “I appreciate what you said, Yijun. We’ll see how it goes.” Their handshake had naturally come to an end by this point as he continued. “As for you being a daemon, I would be disappointed in them if they couldn’t accept that.” His attention had turned to the ever approaching dock and the fact that they would soon be able to disembark. They would have some traveling ahead as the village was located a fair distance from any hub that supports an aerial ship route.

We’ve basically arrived, so I think it’s time to depart.” The ship was close enough to observe the dock, but it was a similar experience to being out at sea and catching the first glimpse of land. They were close, but that was it. He didn’t give Yijun a chance to ask a question as he skillfully whistled into the air. The clouds above stirred unnaturally in response. Ikazuchi immediately addressed his companion in response. “Don’t attack, it’s my mount.” Following those words, the final layer burst open revealing a distinct red wyvern which shimmered slightly due to the condensation buildup from traveling in the cloud layer.

As it descended gradually, Ikazuchi addressed the issue further to ensure there weren’t any misunderstandings. “I need to say this first, I didn’t ride it here because it’s not as comfortable. I had always planned to switch to my mount as we approached to avoid disturbing the town when we arrived.” At this point, the wyvern had landed in the open space on the deck causing a slight disturbance. From the gazes of the crew, it was clear that they were wary but not surprised. From the time he boarded, he had made the captain aware of his circumstances to avoid misunderstandings. It was also due to this that he spent most of his time alone. Even if they accepted, they felt uncomfortable about the wyvern lurking around the ship during their travels.

With all of that said, he’s been with me for a long time and is reliable. He may not be able to fly as far with both of us, but he can handle the thirty minute flight needed to reach our destination.” Ikazuchi approached the red wyvern as he explained and stroked its head affectionately. There was a pause for a moment before he turned his gaze to Yijun, seeking any sign of apprehension. “Are you comfortable riding along?” What his new travel companion would see on the wyvern would be an intricately crafted saddle containing basic travel items, luggage, and space enough for both to sit. While the space behind his designated spot was generally used for large luggage that couldn’t fit in the saddle bags, it did have the necessary handholds for someone to accompany him. Built-in straps neatly stored along the sides of the space that were used to fasten items could easily be used as a seat-belt should Yijun be uncomfortable. He would calmly wait for an answer before deciding how to proceed.

Yijun
Yijun once their hands had separated and the man seemed to be calling to something and Yijun didn't flinch when the creature had come out of the clouds and he tilted his head as he was not expecting to see this man call a wyvern to the ship and it landing had made the ship rock and Yijun wondered if the man was an idiot for having it land on the ship. "That is a little bit dangerous don't you think to have it land on the ship?" Yijun looked over the creature and he wondered if there was a reason he would need to ride the creature as he could just transform and fly but he guessed it would be rude if he turned it down and he figured it was going to probably be the one time he might be able to ride on such a creature so he would nod that he would ride with the man.

Yijun lifted his shield and made sure that it was firmly held to his back so it will not be tossed or lost as they went. He looked to the spot he was to take his place and he touched the creature with his hand and he then looked to Ikazuchi. "Does it have a name? I wish to ask permission before I hop up on it to ride as it is strange to me to just jump on a random stranger of a creature without it's consent unless I am under major issue or need." He would wait for the man to tell him of the name of the wyvern so he may ask the creatures permission, once the creature seemed to agree he would hop up onto the creatures back and took his seat and held to it so that he would not be tossed from it as after take off it would probably be safe to let go of the creature and be at peace.

Yijun wondered if it would really be as easy as he thinks it would be as there are still factors that he can't add in. Yijun would hope that this draconic creature would be able to handle both of their weight and his shield as the shield was a mighty weight in of itself. Yijun would look to Ikazuchi and he hoped the people would greet him with open arms but Yijun would stay ready in case they might treat him as an enemy as Ikazuchi didn't seem like he would sell him up a river but he needed to just trust in this bond even if it might only be the thickness of a hair and might snap just as easily but for now he was going to make sure that he could help to keep this man safe in this country if he could help it. Though he is not sure where enemies might be hiding that might wish to also get their hands on his man's birth right.

"Just remember at the first sign of trouble keep your head about you even if they seem brittle or weak, monsters often hide their true colors till you get closer and have your guard down." Yijun was just for some reason giving the man free advice but he knows that the old shogun had some that deeply followed her rather it was through fear or honor, her body had disappeared as well if reports were to be trusted so she might not be dead so they needed to make sure they didn't end up facing her as well in the mix, but he doubted she would waste her time on him or Ikazuchi who have no real ties to the current shogun besides Yijun being a part of a division that might be on her bad side as they took her tools and artifacts and relics to learn about them and how to use them.

Yijun readied himself for what might come and his tattoo ached with a want from the naginata that wanted to come out and fight as well as it feels Yijuns restlessness that he hoped would be put to rest on this journey as Yijun doesn't see any big fights happening though his edgy feeling he has is making him wish to stay sharp as this kind of thing was not normal to him one seeking out a family that might have left him to have nothing outside of the things that he has on him but Yijun was going to have this mans back.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi mostly ignored Yijun’s concern and worry-filled statement as it was something he had already resolved previously. If not, the creature would have likely been attacked before it ever landed. On the deck, considering his agreement with the captain, the only one who would even be a threat to it was Yijun. As Ikazuchi had personally informed the Daemon of its arrival, he couldn’t be bothered worrying further about something like that. He simply accepted that it was due to Yijun’s sense of duty and responsibility that he expressed those concerns. While Ikazuchi felt it was fine, he wouldn’t go out of his way to argue with the man about the safety and practicality of the choice.

A slight smile crept onto his face as Yijun seemed to accept his proposal. “His name is Mir, and he’s friendly.” Ikazuchi recalled his time in the Worth Woodsea as fearless children climbed up the wyverns body, treating him like their favorite toy. As it had bonded with him years ago, it’s higher than average intelligence developed steadily. In many subtle ways, Ikazuchi and Mir shared a unique connection due to the ritual of the ancient kingdom which granted him his unique abilities and insight. Naturally, after years together, Ikazuchi had a clear grasp on the wyvern’s abilities and trust in it to deliver them to the location. If it wasn’t for the fact that he didn’t know what would be waiting for him there, he would have simply moved through the air with mana.

Mir was too lazy to be bothered with Yijun’s concerns or Ikazuchi’s whims, the creature simply acquiesced and allowed the two to easily take their place on its saddle. Ikazuchi did a final check of the saddle and creature to confirm no further issues as he leaned down a bit and gave it direction with a slight point. “We’ll be heading that way for a while, but it shouldn’t take too long.” Mir naturally ascended with a gentle finesse that didn’t disturb the ship as much as the landing.

From behind, Ikazuchi received another piece of advice laced with the best of intentions. He nodded in acknowledgement, but remained silent due to serving as a windbreaker for his riding companion at this point. His left hand firmly held the saddlehorn as the three; one human, one daemon, and one wyvern cut through the air. The speed of the flight meant there was little room for further conversation, but Ikazuchi made sure to continue observing him through his uniquely developed perception. In such an empty area, it was even easier to process the information and ensure no issues occurred.

It wasn’t long before they approached the reported area. The terrain shifted to tree-covered hills and valleys with only a single rough road leading to a village which was nestled at the entrance of a valley. There were few signs of human interference in the landscape as Ikazuchi noted that the valley behind seemed to extend towards the eastern horizon in a way that could only frame the rising sun each morning. Even the perimeter wall standing ten feet tall seemed to blend naturally with the scenery creating a sense of harmony disrupted only by the dilapidated state of the buildings they could observe. Out of consideration for the village and the fact that he was a stranger, Ikazuchi guided Mir to a clearing that wasn’t far from the village.

It would be far enough to be out of sight, but not so far that it would be inconvenient for the two. Finally on the ground again, Ikazuchi would dismount and pat Mir out of thankfulness and consideration for his services. After Yijun dismounted the creature, he would address what they had observed from the sky. “From what we saw, more than one building looked abandoned. It seemed like the buildings along the main path and towards the valley were in better condition though…” Ikazuchi described what he noticed, but it was also possible that the more informed Yijun could have different insights. He couldn’t help but pause at this point as he hoped Yijun would be able to share some of his experiences. Ikazuchi wasn’t familiar with what kind of state for former Shogun left villages and towns in, but he was somewhat optimistic that it wasn’t the worst case scenario since it seemed more like a natural decline had occurred compared to what he could only assume would be a hostile takeover.

After listening to the daemon, Ikazuchi would speak again. “The usefulness of the information I obtained ends here. In the end, it was really only for the sake of locating them.” Ikazuchi was honest about his limited information, not sure how much Yijun had understood about his lack of relationship with his family by this point. “We might as well just try out luck and enter from the front, what do you say?” While Ikazuchi fully intended to do so, he did want to at least confirm that his companion was comfortable with doing so. Should Yijun accept, Ikazuchi would leisurely make his way to the entrance while observing the surroundings. Even now, part of his attention and perception was focused on the periphery to ensure no one stealthily approached them or was spying. At the same time, having completed his task, Mir took to the sky and roamed around intending to seclude himself and rest. Ikazuchi knew all too well that the wyvern would avoid disrupting the local habitats and only hunt for food within reason.

Yijun
Yijun would feel the take off of the creature named Mir and he wondered how the Joyan government were going to take seeing a draconic creature just take off from an air ship and is now flying over the country and he guessed that he was going to have to make sure that no one takes a pot shot at them as that would probably look weird as none of them were in sight just a giant flying lizard that could be heading to attack some place and he wondered if him summoning his naginata if it might make his traveling partner scared or might spook the dragon that they are riding on. Yijun knows there are a lot of people that might see this as an odd thing that he was traveling with some random man and going on a spirit type of journey, but this will give him data that he might be able to use for the future.

He looked the way the man had said they were going and he wondered if this place was a backwater place or maybe one that was on the outskirts of the country that might not have been touched by the war though from what he knew the whole country was at war and of course looters and armies were taking over villages and places that seemed to have good resources that could be used or exploited. Plus a lot of men of the right ages being taken from their beds and forced to fight for the past shogun but Yijun doesn't know they full picture of it all. He just knows that monsters had come here to fight like Yuurei and Kaito two of the biggest names out there were here to help the new woman to take over and others of their guilds to press out the generals the past shogun had. There are apparently statues of them. He had never went to see them, but he might have to to see if they really did make a statue of Yuurei and Kaito and if they were next to each other or apart from the other.

Yijun looked at the beat up looking buildings that were going under them and he wondered if this was a place that a fight took place or maybe just a place that had been abandoned or maybe the people here might have just gone into hiding, to avoid the shogun or the war. He was not sure what kind of things might be here but he feels them getting lower and he hopped off and he put his arm out and summoned the naginata and he puts it on his back with the shield and he looked around and his eye looked at the area and sees that a lot of the buildings he could see from were they were had a lot of weak points that could be hit that would bring down the houses. "Just be careful where you touch and how hard you do so. Might make the place come down."

He was hoping that they would be okay but he also knows that if the info stopped here then they would need to stay on guard and hope for the best and Yijun looked around a bit more as he was going to back this man up and if something happened then he would take his full form and let his naginata level this place and never have to worry about it after that as those that would thing it smart might find that less useful once a black hole of a thing sucked them all into oblivion and destroyed their stuff and goods but that was a very last ditch thing as he didn't think he needed to go that hard about it but he would follow Ikazuchi into what ever he was planning to do and that was something that he would be able to do to help at least cause he figured that the man could probably handle himself and now have to relay on him all that much but he was still going to fight as hard as he can.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi couldn’t help but pause and stare at the builds after Yijun’s statement. ‘...He’s not wrong.’ He was more than a bit disappointed to come to terms with the condition of the village. While he hadn’t ever associated with the family and his father cut ties before he was born, it wasn’t pleasant to know that the group of his only known relatives lived in such a run-down community. “Yeah, we should keep that in mind.” Ikazuchi noticed that Yijun had summoned his weapon as well, a clear indication of the man’s wariness. He restrained the shake of his head that was on the verge of occurring as he led the way, intentionally proceeding unarmed to avoid spooking any residents they may meet. Despite that consideration, his heavy armor and standard appearance was easily enough to make strangers uncomfortable.

There wasn’t a guard at the gate, but the actual wall seemed to receive the bare minimum maintenance as it stood firmly without risk of collapse. The main path leading deeper into the village also clearly received a certain amount of care as it wasn’t overgrown and no severe damage could be observed. Still, it wasn’t hard to see damages in the less frequented areas down alleyways extending towards the sides of the village between the buildings that still showed signs of care and use.

Around the main path, there were signs that people had been moving around previously. Small signs of activity such as forgotten items could seldomly be seen outside of the buildings. Within his perception, Ikazuchi even captured the occasional person peeking at the two through gaps in the closed windows. ‘A wary bunch, huh? I guess it can’t be helped with what has been happening in recent months and years…’ Despite that, he was certain that someone would interact with them if they continued forward.

I know it’s a bit ironic coming from me, but it seems like Mir may have spooked them.” Ikazuchi spoke in a casual manner, almost as if he hadn’t been the one directing the wyvern. It almost seemed as if it wasn’t his problem due to how casually he addressed Yijun. Ikazuchi was naturally observant, she he naturally understood that most people would blame him for the current state of the village. He didn’t care about that fact though. He did what he wanted, so he couldn’t be bothered blaming himself or stressing over the consequences.

It was at this point that a young boy, no older than ten, rushed out from one of the alleys. “Who are you?!” The boy’s voice shook, but his eyes were clear. ‘Oh?’ Ikazuchi had a positive impression for the first time since he arrived due to that hint of bravery displayed. His gaze focused on the child as he registered a handful of adults preparing to similarly rush out from nearby buildings.

My name is Ikazuchi and this person here,” Ikazuchi motioned his hand to indicate he was referring to Yijun; “his name is Yijun.” By this point the adults had appeared, each in good condition without any fear directed towards Ikazuchi. Although he answered the child’s question, the adults belonging to the village were close enough to hear his statement.

As they had observed from above, their trip through the village confirmed that the condition only improved as the path leading to the valley was located essentially at the back of the village from the entrance. “And why are you here?” This question came from the leader among the four men who appeared. From the tone, Ikazuchi didn’t miss the unwillingness to interact and even hoped that the two may turn around and leave.

“It’s a bit of a long story, so I will give you the short version.” Ikazuchi didn’t move, but his will still guided the sword spirit to float in front of himself as he continued to speak. “In as few words as possible, all I want to do is look into the technique that allowed me to create my Sword Spirit here and I think the answers to that may be here.

There was a certain amount of shock regarding Ikazuchi’s answer, even a bit of excitement at the sight. ‘...that’s odd?’ Ikazuchi wanted to inquire about that unique response, but he remained silent after his introduction in order to allow Yijun to do the same. While they may be traveling together for now, Ikazuchi couldn’t be sure how comfortable he is about being spoken for in any way. Considering that, he could only delay his inquiries and discussions.

Yijun
Yijun looked around more as they were walking around and he kept his naginata on his back in case he would need it but he doubted that he will need to use it as this place doesn't seem quite like a base of power for fighters or bandits as if it was bandits they wouldn't really be taking care of this place like this so well to show that it was somewhat lived in and he wondered what would happen and if he would have to actually use his weapon here as he didn't want to but he knows that there is a reason that this place is how it is. He was a fighter as well as brains but he was not fully sure what to expect but he was keeping his eyes open for trouble or ambushes as this place didn't know them and as Ikazuchi said they might have been scared by the wyvern which makes sense with who they were probably use to dealing with.

Yijun could see people peeping at them and he wondered if that was partly his fault as well though he doesn't think that the generals of the old shogun wore these kind of uniform but they might just think the new shogun wasn't much better than the last one and he was here to look at them and scope out if this place was worth them to take over and that was just something that he doubted that he would be able to get away from in the end as he was part of the current member of the new laws and in a way generals of this place and that was something that was a thing he would need to get use to as people might look at him with fear or anger for how they either liked or hated the last ruling party and often people do not separate the old leaders from the new ones even if they are lighthouses in the dark as the pain leaves a lasting wound on people and how they view things.

Yijun saw the boy coming running out but he hadn't seen anything on the boy so he didn't pull his naginata or even reach for it as he was not looking to be known as Yijun the child slayer. He let Ikazuchi take the lead as they are the people he was seeking and Yijun knows that sticking his nose in the business that he might end up just mudding the water and that was something that he wished to avoid as this was something he was helping in and interfering with them might work against Ikazuchi. Once Yijun was spoken about he then waited till it was his turn. When his turn had come he spoke and kept an even tone so not to spook the child or the adults that had came running in at them maybe in some misguided thought that they were here for trouble even if it might be what they are here for in the end.

"As he said I am Yijun, I am a member of the current leading factions forces, I chose to join forces with this man to help him on this test of his spirit and I hope to help him bond and do what he wishes to meet the wish that he has for the spirit. Outside of that I am an observer and that is mostly what I wish to stay." He looked at how the area had been getting very so much better the farther they went on the path and he wondered if the shogun even knew of these people as it seemed they had withdrawn a good distance back from the way of the capital. He wondered if these people would be in any need of aid or not. He was not going to ask but if they wanted to they could ask him if they needed something and he could get the word out to the division that handled it and warn them that they need to be careful not to spoke the people here as they seemed like they were not going to be swift in the field of trust.

He saw how they looked at Ikazuchi and he wondered why they had looked at him like that, did they know what he was meaning or were they scared by the thought if it Yijun guessed he would have to listen and find out though he doubted that they were just going to lead Ikazuchi to the answer if it was real there was probably some kind of test and that was something that Yijun might have to help with if Ikazuchi needed it but he had no idea what that would even look like but he was sure that he could help and handle most things that might come their way and he needed to make sure he didn't let his guard down and make the most of what he can do to help them if they need to do something to earn the right to it.

Ikazuchi

Ikazuchi wasn’t surprised by Yijun’s answer. It was one to be expected from an official of sorts that made a surprise visit to a remote village, especially considering the shuffling of leadership that had occurred. Something Ikazuchi noticed was that the leading man’s excitement didn’t falter in the slightest. Only one of the men towards the back revealed a certain amount of uneasiness at the statement. From his appearance, he was nearing forty and didn’t show the same level of physique that the other three had. Despite the weather, they were all dressed light enough to allow an experienced observer to judge these qualities.

‘Well, that’s not my problem…’ Ikazuchi committed the man’s face to memory, but he wouldn’t pursue things further if it didn’t implicate him. Instead, Ikazuchi continued to will his Sword Spirit to maneuver through the air. The leader’s burning gaze was fixed to it, tracing every slight movement. “You seem to be familiar with this?” Ikazuchi didn’t hesitate to get straight to the point after observing the desire in his eyes. The men didn’t even pause to acknowledge Yijun’s greeting due to it, including the wary one. Finally, Ikazuchi directed it to its regular spot in his blindspot.

“Ah… Yes, we’ve heard of something similar….” There was a hint of turmoil hidden in the tone of the leading man addressed Ikazuchi’s direct question. With a slight shake of his head, the man regained his composure. “I’m Hideo Kumo…” with a deep breath and clear resolve reflected in his eyes he continued to speak. “...It’s a pleasure to meet you both, I will act as your host during your time here.” At this point, he turned to the remaining three men and the child before speaking again. “You all can return to what you were doing,” his gaze focused on the child specifically. “But you especially should avoid making trouble, Sho.” The warning and reprimand in the tone was clear as day considering the fact that the child had rushed out to confront two strangers.

The four naturally dispersed in different directions, likely to spread news of the encounter or complete their tasks. “Now that everything is taken care of, how about we use my house for our discussion?”

Ikazuchi maintained a slight smile as his gaze focused on the man. “That sounds great, I think we have a lot to talk about.” After Yijun’s statement, he didn’t seek confirmation about his willingness to be present since the man adopted what would be the role of an observer. There wouldn’t be any reason for him to refuse. With that said, Ikazuchi naturally followed Hideo, a man who looked to be around forty to fifty years old with a well-trained body. It was only his short salt and pepper hair and the wrinkles on his face that gave away his age.

When they arrived at the house, it would be clear at a glance that it was well-maintained despite lacking a certain vibrancy. As if only maintained for the basic purpose, lacking the character one would expect to see from a family home. This would only be highlighted further by the lack of activity or signs of anyone else present upon making their way through the entrance. ‘Seems like he’s a bachelor?’

“Have a seat here.” Hideo’s voice reached them from a few steps ahead as he motioned to two cushions that were placed around a short square table on the floor. Following that, the man entered another room before quickly coming back with three cups and a pot filled with water and taking one of the seats for him.

Ikazuchi had naturally taken one of the seats during the time that the man fetched water. He said nothing as the older man poured water for the three, not observing the respectful customs commonly seen in Joya. Although the man could be described as his senior in life, the fact that his father cut ties with the family was enough for him to have reservations. Hideo also didn’t seem bothered by this lack of respect either as all three cups were filled and placed in front of the three. “It’s not much, but here’s some water.”

Thank you.” Ikazuchi casually took a sip from the cup in front of him before resting his hands on the table. “Now, where should we start?” There was a slight impatience building within him as he considered the possibilities.

“First, I would like to know how you found your way to our remote village before we continue.” Hideo’s firm tone made it clear that the answer Ikazuchi received hinged on how Ikazuchi arrived here.

...That’s reasonable enough.” Ikazuchi glanced at Yijun and then returned his gaze to Hideo. “I don’t plan to hide anything, but it may be a long story. I hope you both don’t mind.” Ikazuchi paused for a moment here, leaving an opportunity to refuse or even withdraw should Yijun be unwilling to listen.

After that pause, Ikazuchi would begin to share freely. “Well, let’s start with a full introduction on my part.” His hand subconsciously traced the Cloud Ring that was inherited from his father as he spoke. “My name is Ikazuchi Kumo, the son of a man named Take Kumo.” Hearing that, Hideo who had just taken a sip of his water was choked up. Ikazuchi gave just a moment for the man to process that before he continued. “Before he passed, he often shared tales of his homeland. I often heard about his experiences training, some of the myths and legends, and he trained me in martial arts… The one thing he never seemed to mention was his family.” At that final statement, Ikazuchi could see a hint of bitterness in the man’s expression.

Years went by after he passed; my mother continued to raise me alone and she also never mentioned his family. I don’t know if she didn’t know. If she did, she kept it a secret until the day she also passed.” Pain could be seen deep in his unfocused gaze, but it was also clear from his tone that he had long since come to terms with this loss. “After losing him during one of his requests to hunt a fierce beast, she did everything she could to prevent me from pursuing that same path.” His hand continued to caress the Cloud Ring adorning his finger, the only antique that was left to him by his parents.

Looking at me now, you can probably see how well that went, right?” His tone was more playful as he thought about his present self compared to who he knew she wanted him to become. “Despite all of their efforts, I still ended up here today…” Ikazuchi recalled his reluctance to visit this country as he finished that sentence. “Funnily enough, in a way, that’s also due to the fact my mother did her best to keep me from the battlefield.” Ikazuchi’s tone contained a certain sense of distance as he immersed himself in the past.

I was around fifteen when I lost my father, and the years leading up to when I lost my mother were spent blacksmithing. Of course, most of that time was spent as an apprentice. It was more of a coincidence than anything that I managed to develop my skills to what they are today.” A bit of pride could be heard in his tone as he continued to speak. “I would even say that my skills as a blacksmith don’t lag too far behind my swordsmanship.” It wasn’t likely that either man would understand how high of an appraisal that was, but Ikazuchi wasn’t concerned over that.

The reason why I mention my ability as a craftsman is due to a ring that my father left me.” At this point, Hideo showed a certain level of agitation as his gaze was fixed on Ikazuchi’s hand which hid a ring. “It was an old antique left to me, something that he treasured…” Ikazuchi finally stopped his gentle actions and separated his hands, tapping the table firmly to get Hideo’s attention. “...Naturally, I couldn’t help but repair something left to me from him.” Ikazuchi’s narration excluded the many minor interactions and unrelated details, jumping directly to the next most relevant event. “Following that, I eventually found myself in Seven honing my skills in the Arena there.” Ikazuchi noticed the hint of confusion in the furrowed brows of the middle aged man after the shift in the story. “Wagers are common during duels there, and some are more unique than others.” At this point, his sword spirit moved back into focus by hovering in the space above the table. “One of those wagers included the technique that allowed me to create this spirit that you see here.

This revelation stunned the man, seemingly more than the discovery that Ikazuchi was related to him in some way. “After repairing the ring and using the technique, I discovered the fact that the techniques used to craft the ring and those for establishing a spirit had similar principles for the flow of mana. That’s why I’m here today, pursuing one of the best leads I found.” Finally, after finishing his story, Ikazuchi took another sip of his water. He didn’t push Hideo to respond at this point, instead he turned his attention towards Yijun, curious what kind of reaction the man would have as one of the first people he shared the details of his life in front of. Ikazuchi suspected that the man had recognized him earlier, so couldn’t help but wonder. As for Hideo, Ikazuchi intended to let the man process for a moment before they continued the discussion.

Yijun
Yijun took the cue from the other man that he was just to watch and listen, so Yijun wouldn't speak nor draw attention away from the man as he was telling his side to this all and followed the two men back to the home of the one of the village that seemed to want to have a further talk with them and Yijun wondered what there was to talk about farther from what the man had already said but he guessed that he needed to just keep his mouth shut and just follow and then they were given a place to sit and soon followed by water for them to drink and Yijun watched the man as the person he was accompanying was talking to him and saw the other man seem to choke on his water as Ikazuchi had said his full name. Yijun then listened to his companion tell his life story to the other man that they were in the home of. Yijun wondered how rough that must have been but he barely got to know his mother and he had never met his own father so this story doesn't strike him one way or the other.

Ikazuchi

“So you’re Take’s son…” Hideo’s tone was empty, as if contemplating. Hidden in his unfocused gaze was a sense of loneliness. “...Who would have thought there would come a day when his son would return…” His gaze shifted slightly to follow Ikazuchi’s sword spirit. “...like this.” Hearing this Ikazuchi realized that the circumstances were more complicated than what he had assumed. Despite that, Ikazuchi felt very little sympathy for the man or his family. He maintained his silence, indicating that he would listen to what Hideo had to say. After sharing so much, he felt that he deserved an appropriate response.

“I… no, we owe you a proper explanation.” Hideo’s expression was resolute as he spoke, determined to address his father’s separation on behalf of the clan. “After listening to your story, I think I know why your father never mentioned us to you.” There was a hint of bitterness in his tone as his gaze followed Ikazuchi’s spirit. “To explain that, I will have to start from the beginning…” Hideo took a sip of water from his cup in preparation before glancing warily at their observer. Ikazuchi felt like the older man was requesting him to shoo Yijun out of the room, but he made no attempt to do so. He wasn’t attached to the family in a way that meant he needed to protect their secrets, and pushing someone from the current ruling power out would only be suspicious at this point. ‘Get over it.’ This was the sentiment Ikazuchi expressed clearly to the old bachelor.

Seeing that Ikazuchi made no effort to remove Yijun, the man accepted defeat with a sigh before continuing. “Let’s see… The start of this story goes back thousands of years now, to the beginning of the country known as Joya.” Ikazuchi was intrigued to hear that the start of the tale seemed to tie into the creation of the country, and he couldn’t help but glance at Yijun to see if this had captured his attention as well. “You may not know, but this country’s origin largely consists of immigrants from Sin. Our clan was among those that came from Sin seeking Fame, Glory, and Power in a new land of opportunity.” Hideo’s tone was almost monotone, as if reciting a story that was unrelated to him entirely.

“Early on, using the legacies that were obtained and developed in Sin, we managed to establish ourselves. In particular, our warriors were highly sought after as what would later be known as Samurai today. With our magic legacy and martial arts, we continued to expand our influence.” Hideo seemed to realize he told the story in the same way that the elders of the past as he chuckled and elaborated. “We were far from claiming the land as our own though. Just one of many noteworthy clans…” A trace of disgust and frustration crept into his expression as he paused for a moment. “...at least, that’s what it seemed like on the surface.”

Ikazuchi’s brows furrowed at the man’s statement, unsure what this information had to do with his father abandoning the clan. “We were one retainers to the Emperor’s faction in Sin, and initially we moved here to maintain that influence even after the borders were withdrawn to what we know today.” This came as a shock to Ikazuchi who valued his freedom above all else. A sense of disgust bubbled up from deep within him as he came to terms with the fact that his family was essentially a group of servants in the past.

Seeing Ikazuchi’s disdain and disgust, Hideo was able to relax and smile as he continued. “Of course, not everyone was satisfied with the status quo. Over the years, as our connection to Sin weakened, some of us grew to desire true freedom and independence causing a divide in the clan.” A meaningful glance was directed at Ikazuchi by Hideo, but it was unclear what he meant.

“I won’t go into all of the details, but that division in the clan led to losses that the clan couldn’t recover from…” The man’s fists clenched as he stared more intently at Ikazuchi’s sword spirit. “...even after hundreds of years.” At this point, Ikazuchi had a certain premonition. ‘Maybe?’ His gaze shifted between his sword spirit and Hideo as he considered the man’s fixation.

And what was lost is related to that?” Ikazuchi casually pointed at his spirit as he spoke, intending to confirm if his guess was correct.

“...Yes, that’s correct. What we lost was a crucial portion of the Spirit Formation technique that serves as the foundation for our magic heritage.” The two felt a mix of awkwardness and exasperation as they realized that the technique had appeared again. The relationship dynamic between Ikazuchi and his family was so estranged that it was unclear whether the clan would finally recover or collapse once and for all with his appearance today.

A long, silent, exchange occurred between Ikazuchi and Hideo before the older man acquiesced and continued. “After many years of refinement, our magic legacy developed into something more fundamental; hereditary, even. With the complete legacy, we were able to unleash one hundred and fifty percent with half the effort compared to others outside of the clan wielding a similar magic…” The man paused for a moment as he felt his frustration growing. “But-” At this point, Ikazuchi interrupted. “But, without the spirit, it became the opposite situation, right? More effort for half the results.

“...That’s correct. Regarding that, I don’t know if I would consider you fortunate or unfortunate…” Ikazuchi didn’t need to hear the rest to know that the man was referring to the fact that he was born without the talent to wield magic. If he possessed the talent for magic, obtaining this technique would have allowed him to easily reach greater heights. On the other hand, he was only able to grow his strength enough to obtain it thanks to his other talents. “That’s not any of your concern.” It was a cold retort given as a warning. His pride wouldn’t allow him to accept pity from someone, especially not anyone from his clan.

“My apologies…” Knowing that he spoke out of line, Hideo wore a sincere and apologetic expression. Even if he felt that it was pitiful, there wasn’t any doubt that Ikazuchi had far exceeded his own capabilities with a weapon to be able to develop a weapon spirit. Although related, the criteria to create one was higher as it was based entirely on using the firm will of a master rather than the intricacies of the magic to support it. ‘Well, it’s good to know that I have a bargaining chip to use later.’ This was Ikazuchi’s thought as he silently accepted the apology.

“Back to the story; even now, there is a division in our clan. A minority are like your father, believing in their own personal freedom and pursuing other options. On the other hand, a majority of the clan believes we should latch onto either the rulers of Joya or attempt to reconnect with Sin to re-establish what we lost.” It was only now that Ikazuchi fully understood why his father kept him from his family. The political struggles and alienation would have led to him growing up as a completely different person. Even if Take still cared for his clan, it was clear that Ikazuchi and his Mother had been more important to him. Realizing that, Ikazuchi’s affection for his father only grew.

“Take…” Hideo’s expression grew complicated as his attention turned to Ikazuchi’s hand. “...Your father, he had a special position here. He was a representative figure in his generation; the Cloud Ring you wear serves as proof of that.” At this point, Hideo pulled at a string hanging around his neck revealing a similar ring to Ikazuchi. “Thunder, Lightning, Wind, and Rain; These are the four traditional representative figures and factions within the clan. Decisions are made based on votes among these four, but there is a certain authority given to the Cloud that prevents stalemates between the four.” Hearing this, Ikazuchi was quick to understand how significant it was for him to return to the clan with both the proof of representation and part of the lost heritage. ‘What a fucking mess…’

“Before your father left, the representative of Rain favored the independence of the clan. It was only after he left that they gradually shifted their stance to create a standoff. Thunder and Lightning continue to fight for independence, but Wind and Rain push harder for us to align ourselves with another power…” From the ring Ikazuchi saw, he was able to see that Hideo represented Lightning within the clan. Regardless of their personal relationship, based on the story, Ikazuchi now understood that this honest man was someone who was affiliated with his Father.

“...And now, before me is the son of Take with the lost proof of Cloud and the technique needed to resolve the internal strife of the clan once and for all.” The man’s eyes reddened slightly as hope was reflected in his expression.

What does that have to do with me?” Ikazuchi’s blunt question brought Hideo out of his delusions. “You said you were here for your spirit, right?” The man shifted gears in an attempt to negotiate, bringing the focus back to Ikazuchi’s original intentions. In response, Ikazuchi nodded with furrowed brows. “I won’t hide it from you, the clan only lost the initial formation techniques and information in the past. You will be able to find the answers you seek here, that’s something I’m certain of…” Hideo paused and Ikazuchi cringed slightly as he realized he would be dragged into the middle of the clan’s issues if he wished to grow further. “...but you’ll have to earn it.”

Before I even consider that, let’s address what you avoided earlier…” Ikazuchi’s finger rapped against the table. “...who or what drove my father out?

“...That would be the Representative of Wind. That man, he was determined to change the clan even if it caused us to collapse. Your Father chose to leave as his unique authority made him a target that could be used to make or break the clan.” Hideo felt a growing sense of discomfort as Ikazuchi radiated more momentum, almost like a sword ready to be unsheathed. He couldn’t be sure how it would change, but he knew at this moment that this revelation would result in changes to the clan that could never be reversed.

And if I help you take care of this issue, will I be able to obtain the technique?” Ikazuchi’s expression was hard to read, but his question suggested that he would be joining the internal strife. “That’s correct…” Hideo was slightly uncomfortable, but answered all the same.

Ikazuchi smiled in response and addressed Yijun directly. “Considering what you heard, are you willing to help me sort this mess out? Considering your position, it’s probably better if we prevent any other power taking root here in Joya, right?

Yijun
Yijun had seen the glance that he had gained from the man that was welcoming them into his home and Yijun was sure that he wasn’t needed to leave unless this man was about to talk about something that would go against the ruling party of the country but he wasn’t moving as he had firmly said that he was going to be by this man’s side and help him how he could as this was as much training and a journey for Yijun himself and that was something that he was going to have to accept as a small bump but there was nothing that he could do about this till they get to the bottom of it all and that would take time and effort and Yijun finished his water as he looked around the room his special eye seeing some weak points i the walls that might be where things were hidden and he would not say anything unless he has to say something about it and he needed to not be too nosy.

He heard the man an Ikazuchi return to talking and he wondered how deep the rift in this clan is as they were seeming very on edge with Ikazuchi as he told the story and it makes Yijun wonder how much of this man’s story is true as there seemed to be a few cracks that he could hear in it, but he was going to let it go as he knows bits of the history of the country had been either destroyed or lost to time but he would need to keep his ear open to the story as he was in a way trying to fake that he was not listening fully while he was listening to them and he wondered if there was a way he could find out about it. He now also wondered if his father might have also taken part in helping in this country's start as he lacked details of his own father besides that he is a skilled fighter and a demon that took no real prisoners.

His older brother had seemed to be convinced that their father had been around a very long time and that Yijun was the stain on the family that ruined many years of a strong record their father had. He heard about the ring and the factions of this clan and he thinks it is weird that wind the element of freedom would be one for staying caged up and not being free, Yijun wondered if this might be something deeper in the clan or if another clan has their claws into the wind division of this clan and is forcing them to act in bad faith toward freedom and having their own freedom from those that had held them down to not be able to breath their own gasps of air beyond the cage.

Yijun wondered how this spirit and the things the other man had said work into this all together and he wondered if this man was trying to get Ikazuchi to be a pawn for him and if maybe this man was pulling the strings of the other divisions in some form even if he is of the lightning then there might be something deeper that was here as some things sounded afoul of the story and of the things that he had seen and knows. Yijun kept his face looking in the middle ground so his thoughts and emotions would not be easily read or understood as he needed to make sure that he didn’t interfere but he also needed to make sure that he kept this man out of a trap if there was one as the elder man had told Ikazuchi that he held the ring which held power in the clan as the tie breaker to their freedom or them staying under the rule of this country which was still recovering from the fight against the past leader that had not backed down or dared to allow anyone to not feel her toxic grip on the country.

Once Yijun was asked that question, he still held back a moment as he knows that something was off and then he looked to the water cups and he wondered if Ikazuchi was poisoned did it mean that he was going to be blamed for his death while this man could reclaim the cloud ring that the other man was still wearing on his finger and if Yijun would be able to get himself out of that if it did become a thing but Yijun then cleared his throat. "I have some concerns about it, like why the division of wind which is usually the symbol and element of freedom and hating to be caged is willing and voting to stay caged like a bird. We then have the vague outline of what this man is telling us. What if he is just aiming to use you for that ring on your hand." He was sure this would probably bother Ikazuchi as he was getting what he thought were answers but some of it was not adding out and the data seemed to be conflicting like how the people had acted by them coming into the area granted it was on a dragon type of creature but after seeing him and Ikazuchi were people and not really threats why were they seen as a threat. He wondered if they didn’t trade outside of this village and if there might be a different issue with that.

Yijun then looked back at Ikazuchi. "If this is what you want to attempt I will back you just make sure you stay on your toes as somethings seem odd about this place and the talk, as we were not really greeted as visitors but as strange enemies, so we need to not let ourselves get too complacent with our stuff or our lives." Yijun was very much on his guard as he looked at the other man who had been saying these things to them and talking like this was some big internal war that he might be drafting Ikazuchi and because of the want to do things with the spirit he wondered if Ikazuchi might latch onto the words of this man and then run head first into a fire that was made to burn him up on purpose so that he got rid of the cloud so he could pick a new cloud that he could bend to his will and have the power of two votes instead of one in making choices. Yijun was clearly on guard as he was not looking the other man in the eye and he wondered if this was something normal that this clan had or if there was something far deeper or darker to this.

Yijun would stand up and he would reach into his inner pocket of his uniform and he pulled out a map that he had and he started marking the area he was in and a few notes so if this place was on the up and up it could get aid that it needs and have their buildings repaired and really help them. As he had made notes of the damage and some things that seemed to be out of the normal. He then looked at the older man and he spoke. "That damage to the outer village was that from the war or was it from one of your clans attempts to recreate the spirit without the right path to using and learning it to try and force it?" Yijun’s eyes were locked in on the other man’s eyes to look for a lie from the man as somethings didn’t add up and others seemed to good to be true but this was something that he was going to need to figure out on his own he thinks as Ikazuchi will probably have to just blindly trust the man and his words while he keeps an eye on their back and he needed to make sure that he doesn’t miss a weakness or a detail that could be staring him in the face and that was something that was in Yijun’s wheel house as the division that was in charge of doing interrogations to get information from people.

Yijun returned his naginata to his tattoo on his arm as he didn’t want to risk these people learning too much about his weapon and how he can use it. "I was raised in Sin and I had also never heard of these from there as well but I guess no one wants to talk about the people they lost to a different country they were meant to claim. The distance between the two countries is also a strange thing to me, did they march across the Desierto desert? Faired the frosted mountains of Pergrande Kingdom, did they storm through Bellum, across the freezing temps of Iceberg?" Yijun’s tone was heavily in questioning the path to see where this man would say that they had come across at as this was something that was a bit of an issue with the story as he said they came from Sin but Sin and Joya are separated by other places that he didn’t think kindly to large groups of people just pushing through their lands to get to Joya as well as the different climates and effects that it would have on the body of the people that had made it to Joya if the story wasn’t bull shit that is.

Yijun would wait for the answer but he expected that Ikazuchi would probably not be down for this line of interrogation of his clan, and tearing holes in the story that the other man was saying and making it seem like they were going to have to dig deeper and Yijun was on the look out for the things that didn’t fit as he needed to both make sure of the story as well as he could learn from this to add to other archives later so others may as well learn and research from it and he needed to keep his head on his shoulders and his temper in check as him going into a daemon form will probably just make these people even more uncomfortable with them being around them as he is a tainted race as the monks in sin use to say it. He had a dirty blood of a demon in him and that made him in a more tainted state than those that accepted a demon’s power to use for their daemon race name. He needed to do better and look better than what he was as he was a half blood and that held him back in some ways as he would have probably had a happier life if he had just been born a human or a whole different race that wasn’t like how he was right now and he might have more friends and maybe a living family that liked him and he could turn to.
